BR Mock Draft: Warriors land Serbian big man in second round of latest NBA mock draft
Wednesday marked the final day for early entrants to withdrawal from the NBA draft and return to the college level. With players like Auburn's Tahaad Pettiford, Kentucky's Otega Oweh, Michigan's Yaxel Lendeborg, Arkansas' Karter Knox and Alabama's Labaron Philon all officially returning to college, the field for the NBA draft is officially set.
With the 2025 draft class official, different mock drafts have been released with predictions for what Steve Kerr, Mike Dunleavy Jr. and the Golden State Warriors what will do in June's draft. While the Warriors don't have a first-round pick, they will be on the clock in the second round with the No. 41 overall pick.
In the latest mock draft from Bleacher Report's Jonathan Wasserman, the Warriors landed an international big man in the second round. With the No. 41 overall pick, Wasserman inked Serbian big man Bogoljub Markovic to the Warriors in the second round.
The 19-year-old, 6-foot-11 Serbian played the last three seasons for Mega in the Adriatic Basketball League. In 30 games, Markovic averaged 13.7 points on 53.8% shooting from the field and 37% from beyond the arc to go along with 6.8 boards and 2.7 assists per game.
Bogoljub was awarded the ABA League's top prospect award for the 2025 season. Current and former NBA players like Nikpla Jovic, Goga Bitadze, Dario Saric and two-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokic have won the same award in the past.
The NBA draft is set to begin on June 25 with the first round at Brooklyn's Barclays Center.

Sixers schedule: NBA Cup group play begins vs. Celtics at home

The NBA continued its leak of the full 2025-26 schedule on Wednesday when it released the NBA Cup schedule. The Philadelphia 76ers are in Group B in the Eastern Conference for the third annual in-season tournament to go for the Cup and they now when they need to lock in for group play. The Sixers will face the Boston Celtics on Halloween night on Amazon Prime at 7 p.m. ET to begin the NBA Cup before they travel to Detroit to face the Pistons on Nov. 14. They will then host the Orlando Magic on Nov. 25 and then pay a visit to the Brooklyn Nets on Nov. 28. The Sixers have failed to get out of group play in the Cup for the first two years of this in-season tournament, but if they're healthy, this will be a great chance for them. The Celtics are not the same dominant group while the Nets are focused on rebuilding. The Pistons and Magic will be tough, but the Sixers will have a great chance to advance. Suns add Steve Clifford to coaching staff as advisor

The Phoenix Suns are adding Steve Clifford to their coaching staff as an advisor, according to Michael Scotto. Clifford has an abundance of coaching experience as a head coach and an assistant. Steve has 23 seasons of NBA coaching experience, including head coaching stints with the Hornets and Magic. Phoenix recently announced its entire coaching staff, which is a fairly young one. It makes sense to add a seasoned veteran like Clifford to help out in the background. Phoenix's full staff: head coach Jordan Ott, and assistants Jesse Mermuys, DeMarre Carroll, Brian Randle, Chaisson Allen, John Little, Mike Muscala, and Sean Dwyer. The Suns also announced that Mateen Cleaves has joined its player development team as player development/leadership assistant. A find here: Ott and Clifford's paths crossed in Brooklyn. And he's reunited with former Hornets Mark Williams and Nick Richards on the up to date on every episode, subscribe to the pod on Apple, Spotify, YouTube, YouTube Podcasts, Amazon Music, Podbean, Castbox. Michael Porter Jr. thinks NBA's sports betting culture will get worse

Not many people have seen the impacts of sports betting on professional sports as intimately as Michael Porter Jr., whose brother, Jontay, became the first player banned from the NBA for betting on league games. So, it's not surprising Porter would have a lot to say on the topic. What is surprising is just how in depth he went into ways a player might try to get around the rules, in a recent appearance on One Night with Steiny. "If you could get all your homies rich by telling them, 'Yo, bet $10,000 on my under. This one game I'm gonna act like I got an injury, and I'ma sit out. I'ma come out after three minutes.' And they all get a little bag because you did it one game. That is so not OK, but some people probably think like that." Well, now we know at least one person who thought it through. Maybe keep that to yourself if you're the brother of a guy facing prison time for that exact thing? On a more serious note, Porter isn't completely wrong. The scenario he laid out is likely a proposition (no pun intended) that's been already been brought to a few athletes by friends and associates. But even as the tracking technology used by integrity firms to catch bad actors continues to prove effective, Porter thinks the culture of sports betting is only going to get worse. "The whole sports gambling entity? Bro, it's bad and it's only going to get worse," Porter said. "We really do get death threats. The crazy part is you can't win anymore. If I do too good, I'm messing up the people that bet on the under. And if they bet on my over... you're messing up some people's money." That's the unfortunate part of it all. While the monitoring should be a big enough deterrent to prevent larger scandals in the future, that doesn't prevent bettors from harassing athletes and keeping them hyper-aware of everything that's at stake. Even if it's not their own money. Are the Trail Blazers staying in Portland? With the Portland Trail Blazers' sale to Tom Dundon, fans are wondering whether the team will end up as the next to abandon the Pacific Northwest. The reasons why are easy to understand, as Bryan Kalbrosky laid out here: "The news, which was originally reported by Sportico, led many folks to wonder the same question: Will the Trail Blazers remain in Portland considering that the Dallas-based Dundon is not otherwise affiliated with the Pacific Northwest. His other major sports asset, the Canes, is based in North Carolina." Thankfully, there appears to be good news on that front. Shootaround This was Layup Lines, For the Win's basketball newsletter.
