Ex-NFL player Ramzee Robinson sues Chiefs for wrongful termination, racial discrimination

Associated Press KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — A former NFL defensive back is suing the Kansas City Chiefs for wrongful termination from his job as director of player engagement after accusing the franchise of discriminating against him because he is Black. Ramzee Robinson, who spent nine years with the Chiefs, filed the lawsuit in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri on Sunday. In the lawsuit, Robinson claims that he was called into a meeting in February and accused of attacking a female co-worker, and that Chiefs refused to show him security video of the encounter. Robinson ultimately was fired from his position, which involved locker room management, mentorship and other responsibilities within the team. The lawsuit claims that Robinson was paid a salary of $125,000 by the Chiefs, but that his research found other NFL teams paid comparable positions an average salary of $171,932, not including other benefits. It also claims that "the Chiefs paid African-American business employees less than their white counterparts.' Chiefs spokesman Brad Gee told The Associated Press on Wednesday that while he could not comment on pending legal matters, 'to be clear, the Chiefs do not tolerate discrimination of any kind." 'We look forward to the facts of this case coming to light,' Gee said. The 41-year-old Robinson was the final player chosen in the 2007 draft by Detroit. He played in 19 games over two seasons for the Lions, then appeared in three games for Philadelphia and four for Cleveland in 2009. He never played for the Chiefs. ___ AP NFL: recommended in this topic

Spirit sign F Sofia Cantore, first Italian in NWSL history

The Washington Spirit signed forward Sofia Cantore on Tuesday, making her the first Italian player in NWSL history. Cantore arrives via transfer from Italy's Juventus FC and is signed to a three-year deal with a 2028 team option. Cantore, 25, is eligible to join the Spirit on July 1 when the FIFA summer transfer window opens. She will occupy an international roster slot. "Sofia is an important signing for this Spirit team as we continue to build up our roster to compete for trophies," head coach Adrian Gonzalez said. "Her extensive experience in the Italian leagues and exceptional talent in the attacking third will help add a new layer for the Spirit moving forward." Cantore made her professional debut with Italy's Fiammamonza in 2015 before moving to Juventus in 2017. She has spent time on loans with Hellas Verona (2019-20), Florentia (2020-21) and Sassuolo (2021-22), racking up 40 goals and 120 assists across 120 appearances. "I'm very proud to join this important club and grateful for their trust in my abilities," Cantore said. "I'm excited to start this new chapter of my career as the first Italian player in the NWSL and can't wait to work every day with coach Adrian Gonzalez and my new teammates. And of course, I'm thrilled to challenge myself in this great league!" Internationally, Cantore has contributed five goals in 37 matches with the Italian national team since making her senior debut in 2020. --Field Level Media Field Level Media 2025 - All Rights Reserved

How much did the Lakers' stake sell for to Mark Walter?

How much did the Lakers' stake sell for to Mark Walter? It was barely three months ago the Boston Celtics set an American sports record when Bill Chisholm purchased the team from the Grousbeck family for $6.1 billion. Leave it to their rival Los Angeles Lakers to immediately top them. On Wednesday, ESPN's Shams Charania reported the Buss family is selling their controlling stake in the franchise to Mark Walter for $10 billion. Yes, you read that correct. Ten. Billion. Dollars. According to ESPN's Ramona Shelbourne, the Buss family, which purchased controlling interest in the team for $67.5 million in 1979, owns 66 percent of the Lakers. That would mean the whole team value is closer to $16 billion. These are just staggering numbers. It's the largest sale of a pro sports team in the world.
