Both Arjun Erigaisi and Magnus Carlsen have advanced to the semi-finals of the chess Esports World Cup.(Twitter) The encounter began with a draw and then the Indian GM got the win in the second game with black pieces. Then his opponent won the third, setting up a decider. In the semi-finals, Erigaisi will face Alireza Firouzja, who beat Nodirbek Abdusattorov 3-1 in his quarter-final match. Meanwhile, Magnus Carlsen will face Hikaru Nakmura in the semi-finals too. I think for the first one and a half game, I was matching him or maybe playing even better,' he said. 'I mean, he's Magnus for a reason. 'I'm just very happy to play against Magnus; he's my biggest inspiration. It's my first time getting to play him in a match. I wish him good luck,' he further added. After Gautam Gambhir & Co, Oval pitch curator tries luck with Indian commentator; ‘He's already got his medicine'
Oval pitch curator Lee Fortis is turning out to be a nightmare for the Indians associated in the ongoing Test series against England. After his ugly spat with team India head coach Gautam Gambhir on Tuesday and the Indian players on Wednesday, Fortis once again made the headlines when the Englishman confronted former India cricketer Deep Dasgupta, working as a commentator in the series. Fortis has been making headlines for his double standards. He first asked Gambhir and his staff to stay away from the main pitch. The next day Fortis was seen having a laugh with the England players and backroom support on the pitch side. On the eve of the game, Fortis once again came back during the Indian training session, trying to disrupt the visitor's build-up for the final game of the series. On Thursday, Fortis confronted Dasgupta who was getting ready for the pitch report for the broadcasters before the start of the match. Visiting the pitch side has become a challenge for the Indians with Fortis constantly keeping an eye. 'I went up to the pitch and also stood on the pitch side too. He (Lee) made an eye contact with me once. Whatever happened between us, I think he's has already got his medicine,' Dasgupta said in a video posted by Star Sports. By "got his medicine" remark, Dasgupta refereed to Gambhir's tough words to Fortis. In the video, Dasgupta was seen assessing the pitch from the umpire's position. Former England captain Naseer Hussain was also doing a pitch report for Sky Sports at the same time. Dasgupta elaborated he was waiting for Hussain to see how far the latter goes on pitch side. "I decided that I will wait for Hussain to go first and check how far he goes. Then I will not be answerable to anyone (especially Fortis). After Hussain went to pitch side, it made my job easier," Dasgupta added. Meanwhile, the start of the second session on the opening day of the fifth Test was been delayed due to rain. Early lunch was called due to rain as England made two vital breakthroughs and reduced India to 72/2 in the opening session. With Ollie Pope captaining England in the match, the home team struck early, dismissing opener Yashasvi Jaiswal for two, who was trapped LBW in front of the wicket by pacer Gus Atkinson. Pace bowler Chris Woakes then reduced India to 38/2 by cleaning up KL Rahul's (14 off 40 balls) stumps. Sai Sudharsan and skipper Shubman Gill steadied the innings on an overcast day by scoring an unbeaten 25 and 15 respectively.

"Like You Can't Eat Non-vegetarian Food...": Ben Stokes, England Blasted For Shocking Behaviour Against India
The India vs England Test series has been a closely fought affair. Often the players have gotten aggressive. Be in Shubman Gill or the England players. In the final moments of the fourth Test, things went to another level as the Ben Stokes -led side offered a handshake to Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar, meaning they were asking for a draw, despite both the Indian batters close to their individual centuries. Along with Ben Stokes, Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley were also quite vocal. Crawley went on to say that the incident was embarrassing. However, Jadeja and Sundar paid no heed and went on to score their respective centuries. The match ended in a draw. Robin Uthappa was not at all amused with the turn of events. "Having a conversation is absolutely fine, like, 'Ok, mate we don't have much time left to play. Can we go off?' And then, 'Look we have earned the right to score hundreds here. We think we deserve it.' But the fact that the players went after after them. The likes of Duckett, Crawley for crying out loud mate, what are you doing? It was so unnecessary. A Test hundred is a Test hundred. Probably, only 1 or 2 percent of the cricket world has a Test hundred. It just felt weirdly familiar to us Indians, where we have been told what to do. We have been told what we should be thinking. what we should be doing What the heck man? You want to play your way, you play your way. It is within the rules of the game. You follow the rules, stay within line, we're good," he said on his YouTube channel on Wednesday. "It's like saying 'you can't eat non-vegetarian food because it doesn't agree with our morals'. It's exactly like that. If I am eating non-vegetarian food and you are having vegetarian food, how does it matter to you? We can happily co-exist," he said. Former India head coach Greg Chappell also didn't hold back in his criticism of Stokes and his players, labelling their antics as "childish and shocking". "What should have been a celebration of Test cricket's enduring drama ended in an ugly scene: England's fielders aiming barbs and bouncers at India's centurions-in-waiting," Chappell wrote in his column for ESPNCricinfo. "For a team that has traded on the breezy moralism of the Bazball era, the petulance was jarring. England, often quick to claim moral victories, inadvertently surrendered the high ground here. India, conversely, left Manchester buoyed not only by resilience but also by the visible cracks in the English facade," he added.
