Vizag police launch ASTraM app to resolve traffic woes
Visakhapatnam: Vizag city police have launched 'ASTraM', a mobile app aimed at resolving the city's traffic issues. Home minister V Anitha inaugurated the app, which is centred primarily on tackling traffic-related challenges.
According to Vizag city police chief Shanka Brata Bagchi, the app will gather information on traffic updates from Google Maps and similar platforms, providing alerts to traffic personnel in real-time, every 15 minutes through Telegram. These alerts will then be assigned to ground-level traffic police, who are expected to promptly reach sites of congestion and alleviate traffic bottlenecks.
Bagchi noted that the app is equipped with a variety of features, including route planning, accident reporting, traffic alerts, incident reporting, violation reporting, information about traffic fines, an event calendar, and e-attendance.
He subsequently requested the app developer to arrange a one-week training session for traffic police officers.
Anitha pointed out that Vizag city has been hosting several national and state-level events. She added that as a resident, she was aware of the traffic woes that commuters in the city face. The minister highlighted that the app is designed to be user-friendly, offering detailed traffic updates, and can be used via Telegram. Moreover, she mentioned that the app is being anticipated to be fully functional within the next three months.

Google alert: These incoming calls could compromise your phone—ignore them to stay safe and secure
Google says there's a new phone scam by a dangerous hacker group called UNC6040 . These hackers don't hack your phone directly, they trick you into giving access by pretending to be someone trustworthy. This scam started months ago and is still happening, so you have to be careful now, as per reports. It doesn't matter if you have an Android or iPhone, both are at risk. The attack is called vishing, and it's getting worse because people don't take it seriously. UNC6040 calls employees pretending to be IT support, and asks them to install fake Salesforce apps like a fake 'Data Loader', as stated by the report by Forbes Once the fake app is installed, they get into the system and steal sensitive data, then spread into other connected cloud services. They are targeting companies in industries like hospitality, retail, and education in the U.S. and Europe. These attackers are in it for money, and sometimes another group helps make money from stolen data months after the attack, as per Google Threat Intelligence Group . Google found signs that UNC6040 might be linked to a cybercrime group called The Com. The Com is a group of hackers who hang out on Telegram and Discord, sharing tips and bragging about their crimes. They use the same tricks, like pretending to be IT, stealing login info like Okta credentials, and mainly target English-speaking users at global companies. But Google says they're not sure if UNC6040 and The Com are directly working together, they could just be using the same methods. Live Events FBI joins the warning The FBI has also warned about a separate but similar phone scam happening since April 2025. Scammers send texts and AI-generated voice messages, pretending to be important U.S. officials to steal personal data and online accounts. The method includes smishing, vishing, and spear phishing that move the victim to another platform where malware or fake sites are sent. FBI accounts like FBI Cleveland and FBI Nashville, and New York State Police, posted this warning on X and other sites. Google's safety tips to stop attacks 1. Use least privilege, give people only the access they really need. 2. Strictly control access to connected apps. 3. Use IP-based restrictions. 4. Use Salesforce Shield to monitor for suspicious activity. 5. Always turn on multi-factor authentication (MFA) for all accounts. 6. Never answer unknown calls, especially if someone says they're from your company's IT support. FAQs Q1. What is vishing in phone scams? Vishing is when scammers trick you through fake voice calls to steal your info. Q2. Can iPhones also get hacked through these calls? Yes, both Android and iPhone users can be targeted by these fake calls.

Sam Altman's eye-scanning orb lands in UK to fight Deepfakes and reward you with Crypto
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman's ambitious eye-scanning project has now landed in the United Kingdom. The venture, known as World (formerly Worldcoin), uses a shiny, spherical device called the Orb to scan people's irises and generate a unique digital ID to prove they are human – not a bot or deepfake. Starting this week, people in London will start to spot the orb in some high street shops and malls. In the coming months, the rollout will expand to Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff, Belfast, and Glasgow, according to a report by Bloomberg. Reportedly, the company also plans to work with some retailers in the country to install self-serve Orbs, similar to how ATMs work independently. advertisementThe system works like this: you stare into the Orb, which photographs your iris and face, then generates a unique 'World ID' that proves your 'humanness.' This World ID can be used to log into apps such as Telegram, Minecraft, Reddit, and Discord without revealing personal data. As a bonus, users are rewarded with a few units of the project's cryptocurrency, Worldcoin (WLD).World is operated by Tools for Humanity, a startup Altman co-founded in 2019. The company says its mission is to address a growing issue: how do we know who's real online, especially as artificial intelligence – including Altman's own ChatGPT – makes it easier to fake people's identities? In an interview with CNBC, Adrian Ludwig, who is the chief architect at Tools for Humanity, said the project is moving from a 'science project to a real network,' with growing demand from both governments and companies. 'The idea is no longer just theoretical. It's something that's real and affecting them every single day,' Ludwig said, World's approach has raised red flags around the globe. Privacy regulators in Germany, Argentina, and Kenya have launched investigations. Spain and Hong Kong have banned the project outright, and South Korea recently fined the company over $800,000 for privacy for Humanity insists it doesn't store personal or biometric data. It says the iris scans are converted into an encrypted code, and that the original images are deleted immediately. The user's World ID is then stored locally on their phone. Ludwig argues this makes the system safer and more private than others. (For instance, Aadhaar is a similar concept with people's biometric data stores against an unique ID for each individual; it has faced multiple data breaches over the years.)Currently, there are reportedly around 1,500 Orbs in circulation globally, but the company apparently aims to ship 12,000 more over the next year. The UK rollout follows the Orb's earlier arrival in six US cities, including San Francisco, Miami, and Atlanta, in May 2025, where users lined up to exchange their iris scans for crypto and a digital identity.

Vizag police launch ‘Astram' app to tackle traffic issues in the city
Minister for Home V. Anitha on Sunday (June 8) launched 'Astram', a traffic monitoring app designed by the Visakhapatnam City Police, during a programme at the police conference hall here. She was accompanied by Commissioner of Police Shankabratha Bagchi, Deputy Commissioner of Police V. Ajitha and a few others. Ms. Anitha said the city police have been trying to ensure a smoother traffic, and the app was being launched keeping in view the interests of public. She said that with the city growing by leaps and bounds, traffic issues have become a major problem and the government was using technology to tackle it. Mr. Shankabratha Bagchi said Visakhapatnam is the only city after Bengaluru, where the 'Astram' app will be used by the police as well as public. Though the app was launched in Vijayawada earlier, it is only being used by the police. He said that the public can get real-time updates about the traffic in the city using the app, which will can be downloaded from the Play Store. He said field officers and traffic police on duty will report traffic situations in their localities to the control room, and the data will be integrated and further shared on the app on real time. The officer added that the app allows an analysis of the cause of the traffic congestions—whether it is a vehicle breakdown, road accident, road design issue or signal problem. The police can analyse and come up with solution, he opined. He said the app will also helps design green channels during VIP movements and transportation of body organs during emergencies.
