Will make efforts to enhance devotee experience during Dasara: NTR Collector
The NTR district administration and police department will take all out efforts to enhance devotee experience at the Indrakeeladri temple during the Dasara celebrations this year, said District Collector G. Lakshmisha and Police Comissioner S.V. Rajasekhar Babu. Addressing the media after holding a coordination committee meeting to discuss the modalities for the conduct of the Dasara festivities, scheduled from September 22, at the Collectorate in Vijayawada on Tuesday, Mr. Lakshmisha said artificial intelligence (AI) and technical tools would be used to improve the overall experience of devotees coming to the temple. The participants included Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanam executive officer V.K. Seena Naik, officials from the Revenue, Medical, Civil Supplies, Endowments, Police, Vijayawada Municipal Department, Transport, among others. The Collector discussed the work to be taken up by different departments. Directions were given to the departments regarding the arrangements, which included queue lines, barricading, booking systems, medical camps, issuance of special passes, installing signboards, among others. Mr. Lakshmisha noted that the number of devotees visiting the temple during the 10-day festivities has been increasing every year and that this time, around 1 lakh devotees are expected every day. He added that on the day of Moola Nakshatra, around 2 lakh devotees are expected. A command control room would be set up to provide 24 hour service and also for continuous monitoring. The control room will have an official from every department, he added. The Collector said feedback would be taken from the public from time to time on the arrangements. All arrangements should be ready by September 20, the Collector said. Later, Mr. Rajasekhar Babu said the police department would rectify the minor gaps identified last year to ensure that devotees do not face any problems. He said that while last year only three or four drones were deployed for use during the festivities, the number has now increased to 42. Around 5,000 CCTVs have been installed in the Commissionerate limits, he added. The CP said apps such as ASTraM would be used to ensure hassle-free traffic and parking.

Drones, CCTV, real-time tracking to secure Shakambari Utsavalu in Vijayawada
A major component of this initiative is the ASTraM (Actionable Intelligence for Sustainable Traffic Management) platform. This system uses live video feeds from drones and other data inputs, which are transmitted to an Integrated Command and Control Room. The control room then issues real-time instructions to field personnel for swift intervention and management. Though Shakambari Utsavalu attracts a smaller crowd compared to Dasara, Commissioner of Police SV Rajashekhar Babu stated that the same level of attention is being applied. 'We are taking no chances. The festival must be safe and well-managed, and technology will be at the heart of our efforts,' he said. To ensure lasting impact, the police are documenting the entire bandobust operation. This will aid in drafting a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to serve as a model for future large-scale festivals, ensuring consistent preparedness and efficient handling. Drones will provide live visuals throughout the celebration, while CCTV footage will be monitored round-the-clock from the command center. Any incidents or irregularities will be dealt with immediately.

Vizag police leverage tech to manage crowd
Visakhapatnam: The International Yoga Day celebrations in Visakhapatnam city were marked by high-tech surveillance and effective traffic management, thanks to a comprehensive network of over 3,000 high-definition CCTV cameras, including 1,200 cameras along the beach road stretch. Drones and thousands of security personnel were also deployed at various locations to ensure seamless execution of the event. Despite initial traffic disruptions on June 18, particularly on the stretch from Maddilapalem to Yendada, the police learned from their experience and effectively managed traffic on June 19, 20, and 21. Police personnel were deployed at every key junction and parking point in the city to regulate traffic, and the ASTraM app was introduced to enhance traffic management. The app provided holistic insights into the road traffic scenario, enabling the police to take spontaneous decisions for effective traffic management during the yoga event. As a result, despite a large turnout of vehicles, the police were able to ease traffic congestion and facilitate the smooth movement. On the day of the event, vehicles moved at a slow pace in some stretches of the city in the early hours, but the police managed traffic flow, allowing most participants to reach the yoga event on time.
