Aishwarya Rai's one mistake made Karisma Kapoor a superstar, made for Rs 5 crore, film earned Rs 76 crore, film was..., lead actor was...
Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has delivered many hit films in her career. It is no secret that after her debut film Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya, she faced significant struggles to establish herself in the Bollywood industry. The film was released in 1997. However, one film released in 1996, which Aishwarya might still regret rejecting, came before her debut.
She instantly rejected the offer to star in Raja Hindustani, one of the biggest hits of its time. After Aishwarya Rai Bachchan declined, the makers approached Manisha Koirala, Pooja Bhatt, and Juhi Chawla. After all of them turned it down, the Aamir Khan-starrer Raja Hindustani eventually went to Karisma Kapoor.
This Aamir Khan film turned Karisma Kapoor into a superstar overnight. Made on a budget of Rs 5.75 crore, the film went on to gross Rs 76.34 crore worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing film of the year and the fourth highest-grossing film of the 1990s in India, behind Hum Aapke Hain Koun.. !, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.
The on-screen chemistry between Karisma Kapoor and Aamir Khan was electric. Their performances were widely praised, and a much-talked-about kissing scene took the film to another level.
Karisma Kapoor as Aarti, was complimented for her looks and performance in Raja Hindustani. She played a rich, beautiful, sensitive, young woman full of dreams and desires. The movie has been Kapoor's biggest commercial success till date and is regarded as one of her best performances; it was a major turning point in her career.
The movie was remade in Kannada as Naanu Naane in 2002, and was later dubbed in Telugu as Prema Bandham.

Housefull 5 Day 1 Worldwide Box Office: Akshay Kumar's madcap comedy takes a SOLID worldwide start of Rs 37.25 crore
Housefull 5 grossed Rs 26.50 crore (Rs 22 crore net) in India and Rs 10.75 crore (USD 1.25m) internationally for a worldwide opening day of Rs 37.25 crore. This is a robust opening day for the Akshay Kumar starrer, standing tall as one of the best in his career. The India opening can be classified as good while the overseas opening is very good. The India opening of Housefull 5 is pretty much on expected lines, in-fact slightly lower than we predicted. It is still good and it has given the movie the foundation to grow big over the weekend. The opening internationally, however, is significantly higher than expected and a weekend of over USD 4 million is locked. The global opening weekend shall be around or slightly under Rs 150 crore, setting the comedy up well for the days ahead. Here is the breakdown for the opening day worldwide opening gross of Housefull 5 Particulars Amount India Gross Rs 26.50 crore Overseas Gross Rs 10.75 crore Worldwide Gross Rs 37.25 crore Housefull has been a franchise with no misses and Housefull 5 can also join the coveted list of Housefull films with a hit verdict. For that, the movie must try and net around Rs 200 crore in India and gross over Rs 300 crore 5 is the third biggest Bollywood opener worldwide, only behind Chhaava (Rs 46 crore) and Sikandar (Rs 45 crore). Chhaava went on to emerge as an all time blockbuster while Sikandar sealed a sorry fate, ending its global run grossing just around Rs 175 crore or so. Internationally, Housefull 5 has benefitted greatly by the excellent production value and by the star-studded cast. The look and feel of the movie is rich and it shows in every frame. Above that, having two different versions with two climaxes has helped audiences become even more curious to watch the movie. Even if the killer-mystery is the secondary factor for a comedy of Housefull's nature, it plays a role in drawing the audience to theatres. If it was a conventional Housefull movie with no change from the previous installments, it could have been fatal as audiences crave for something new each time they see a Housefull movie, even if the core remains the same. Housefull 5 plays in theatres now. Have you watched the movie yet? If yes, what are your thoughts on the film? Also, which version did you watch? A or B? Stay tuned to Pinkvilla for more updates on Housefull 5.

'Housefull 5' Vs 'Thug Life' box office collection: The Akshay Kumar starrer's day 1 box office is more than the two-day number of the Kamal Haasan starrer
Housefull 5' which boasts of a huge star cast, including Akshay Kumar , Riteish Deshmukh , Abhishek Bachchan among many others, released in theatres on June 6. While the film has gotten a mixed response, it had a good opening on the first day. Meanwhile, Kamal Haasan 's 'Thug Life' directed by Mani Ratnam, just released a day before. While one thought it will give a tough competition to 'Housefull 5', the latter is leading at the moment. 'Thug Life' is doing well with its Tamil version but 'Housefull 5' is dominating at the Hindi markets largely. Infact, the two-day collection of 'Thug Life' is less than the one-day collection of 'Housefull 5'. The Kamal Haasan starrer made Rs 15.5 crore on Thursday, day 1 out of which, Rs 13.35 crore came from the Tamil version, according to Sacnilk. On the second day, it saw a huge drop as 'Housefull 5' released and made Rs 7.13 crore. On Saturday, as per the early morning shows, it made Rs 87 lakhs but one can expect to see growth by the end of the day, especially in the night shows as Sunday will be a holiday. The total collection of 'Thug Life' so far, according to Sacnilk is Rs 23.5 crore. As per the same box office tracking website, 'Housefull 5' collected Rs 24 crore just on day 1 which is more than the two day collection of 'Thug Life'. On Saturday, just up till the morning shows, the movie has made Rs 2.12 crore. Thus, the total collection so far now stands at Rs 26.12 crore. So, the Mani Ratnam film may be dominating in the south centres and among the Tamil speaking audience, however, in the rest of the big centres like Maharashtra, Mumbai, UP, Gujarat, Delhi, 'Housefull 5' will be garnering more eyeballs. Saturday is also holiday in some parts due to Bakri Eid and that may further help to increase the collections of both these movies with more footfalls. However, the weekend on the whole along with the coming week will largely matter for both the films. While 'Housefull 5' had a good start, it will have a long way to go before it's called a 'hit' because it's also mounted on a very high budget. Housefull 5 Box Office Collections: Akshay Kumar starrer takes career best opening overseas
Housefull 5 opened well at the overseas box office, grossing USD 1.25 million (Rs. 10.50 crore) approx on its Friday opening day. Combined with its Rs. 26.50 crore opening day collection in India, the film recorded a worldwide gross of Rs. 37 crore on Day 1. The overseas opening day numbers are the highest ever for an Akshay Kumar film, tying with Housefull 3, which grossed USD 1.25 million (USD 1.60 million including previews) in 2016. However, Housefull 3 had a release in Pakistan, which is a no-go for Indian films now. In a like-for-like comparison, excluding Pakistan, Housefull 5 sets a new record for Kumar, surpassing the previous best held by Good Newwz. From here, the film will aim for a weekend of USD 4 million plus, which will also be a record for Akshay, and that will be even without needing to exclude Pakistan. The best performing markets for the film were the Middle East and New Zealand, with good support from Australia and the United Kingdom. The US and Canada could have done better, as they are significantly lower than Diwali releases Singham 3 and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, while in other markets, it was either ahead or on par. In the Middle East, the film benefited from Eid holidays, with an estimated USD 500K approx first day. These numbers can go a bit higher once the actuals come, which are delayed due to the holiday period. In New Zealand, particularly in the Fiji Islands, comedies generally overperform, and the Housefull franchise has a stellar record, with the second & fourth films becoming the highest-grossing grossers ever at the time of their release. The film grossed NZD 80K on its first day, which is the seventh highest ever for a Hindi film in the market, on par with Jawan and ahead of films like Tiger 3 and Dunki. The First Day Overseas Box Office Collections of Housefull 5 are as follows:
