The actress also appeared in TV shows Xena: Warrior Princess, Hercules and Shortland Street.
She passed away on her birthday on Friday with a post on her Facebook page confirming the news.
'Marise passed peacefully today on her 61st birthday surrounded by family and friends.
'She just wanted to say....I have shuffled off this mortal coil. Good byyye, good luuuck, good God!!! Quote from Driving Miss Daisy.'
A cause of death was not revealed.
The New Zealand actress' Soldier Soldier co-star Jay Laga'aia paid tribute, saying: 'You are so young and I will miss you. We have worked together over the years and I was always so pleased to have you on set. Travel well my sister, love you always.'

The frontman of a rock band has shut down claims he's faced issues with 'erectile dysfunction'. Neil Finn is best known for being a member of the Australian-New Zealand rock band Crowded House, which was formed in 1985. Over the next 11 years the band released hits including Don't Dream It's Over and Weather with You before disbanding in 1996. They later reunited with a new line-up in 2020. Away from the spotlight Neil, 67, has been married to Sharon Dawn Johnson since 1982 and they share sons Liam and Elroy. However, this week he was forced to speak out after an ad started circulating about his fertility. Recently a fake, AI-generated news broadcast fronted by TVNZ journalist Simon Dallow has been shared on social media. 'I never thought I'd be able to become a father again,' the AI generated Finn said. 'Honestly, I believe that chapter of my life was closed, not because I didn't want it, but because I simply couldn't.' He went on: 'For years, I lived with a problem. Most men are too ashamed to talk about. My erections became weaker and weaker until they stopped altogether. No desire, no confidence, no control. I was too embarrassed to even talk to my wife about it.' But posting on the official Crowded House Facebook page, a brief statement shut down the reports. 'We're not sure where this came from, but please don't be fooled. Neil's never had trouble with erections,' they wrote. Many fans weighed in, with most making jokes but also addressing the unsettling side of AI. 'Isn't AI spooky!' Steve commented. Noel Edmonds reveals he's buying house in the UK after show about his farm in New Zealand is AXED
TV presenter Noel Edmonds has bought a new home on the Isle of Man. The former Deal Or No Deal and Noel's House Party host, 76, plans to divide his time between his property, believed to be in the north of the island, and New Zealand. 4 4 He claimed the island's 'massive community spirit' and sense of pride is what attracted him to make the move. 'I came for the very first time three years ago, and when you consider I lived in the UK all my life and I knew where it was geographically, I don't know why I didn't come before,' Noel told Manx Radio. 'I have purchased a property on the island, and I intend to spend some of the year here, but my principal home is New Zealand.' Noel dubbed the island 'the Smile of Man' because 'everyone seems so happy' and people 'look out for each other'. He added: 'What's drawn me to the Smile of Man… you're bloody proud of the island, you're proud of the community, and across the water there [in the UK], you don't get that anymore.' It comes after ITV axed his Kiwi Adventure series, which aired in June and followed his life in New Zealand with his fifth wife, Liz. Noel, who moved there in 2018, had reportedly hoped the three-parter would become a fixture on the channel, but it failed to be a ratings hit. A TV insider told The Sun earlier this month: 'It's a blow to Noel as he was convinced he was on to a winning idea. Sources close to Noel confirmed his disappointment but insisted other major factors were behind the decision — namely, the extreme weather. A source close to Noel told us: 'River Haven has been hit badly by flooding, it's made working on the estate almost impossible. 'That would have meant filming would have been seriously hampered.' They added: 'As far as Noel is concerned, the show has been put on ice.' The Sun first revealed Noel was returning to TV last year after signing a £1million deal with the ITV. Over the past year he's been spotted making the most of his time on the Isle of Man, with visits to the Southern Agricultural Show in Ballasalla, the Milntown Estate in Ramsey, and even taking in the action at the infamous TT Races. "I love the Isle of Man. I've been here a few times before," Noel said previously. 'This is my first TT – I've always wanted to come, and I live in New Zealand so I've travelled 11,000 miles to be here.'
