ISRO making a 40-storey high rocket to carry 75,000 kg to orbit: Chairman Narayanan

Time of India21 hours ago
Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman V Narayanan on Tuesday said the agency is developing a rocket as tall as a 40-storey building, designed to carry 75,000 kg payloads into
low earth orbit
.
Speaking at the convocation ceremony of Osmania University, Narayanan outlined the upcoming projects, including the NAVIC (Navigation with Indian Constellation) satellite, the N1 rocket, and the launch of a 6,500 kg communication satellite of the USA using Indian launch vehicles.
'You know, what is the capacity of the rocket? The first launcher, (Dr APJ) Abdul Kalam ji, which he built was a 17 tonne lift-off mass, capable of placing 35 kg in low earth orbit. Today, we are conceiving a rocket to place 75,000 kg in low earth orbit. The rocket is of 40-storey building height,' PTI quoted him as saying.

'We didn't have money to advertise': Nithin Kamath on how Zerodha grew without marketing

Zerodha co-founder and CEO Nithin Kamath has shared a candid post on social media, reflecting on how India's largest stock brokerage built its massive user base, without relying on advertising or paid referral incentives. According to Nithin Kamath, the key to driving those referrals wasn't marketing spend.(X/@Nithin0dha) 'When we started Zerodha, we didn't have the money to advertise, not that it would've worked,' Kamath wrote. 'So the only way we could grow was through word of mouth and customer referrals.' According to Kamath, the key to driving those referrals wasn't marketing spend, but rather building products and services 'that customers would talk about.' (Also Read: Nithin Kamath outperforms fellow entrepreneurs in push-up challenge to claim victory. Video) Read Nithin Kamath's full post here: Zerodha introduced its referral program back in 2010. Over the years, the structure of the incentives changed multiple times, mainly due to regulatory changes. Kamath pointed out a significant dip in referrals around 2018–19 when regulations restricted the company from offering referral incentives altogether. Despite the evolving landscape, and even after completely stopping referral incentives, Zerodha's referral numbers have largely remained stable. 'Today, we don't offer any incentives, and despite that, referrals have more or less stayed flat,' Kamath said. He also noted that the data doesn't fully capture the impact of indirect referrals, which continue to contribute meaningfully to Zerodha's growth. Calling customer love their "real superpower," Kamath's post resonated with many in the business and startup ecosystem, offering a rare example of sustained growth powered by trust rather than advertising. Zerodha, founded in 2010 by Nithin and Nikhil Kamath, disrupted India's broking industry by introducing zero-commission equity trades and a flat-fee model. Built without external funding, it grew purely through word of mouth, offering a tech-driven platform that now handles over 15% of India's retail trading volume. How did social media users react? Several users resonated strongly with Nithin Kamath's reflection on Zerodha's unconventional growth model, applauding the brand's product-first, trust-based approach. One user pointed out how the company's journey goes 'against the common notion that Indian consumers are not faithful, that they won't move a finger without an incentive,' and added that the sustained word-of-mouth referrals 'show the strong value that customers are experiencing from the product.' Another commenter said Kamath's post 'resonates deeply,' noting that Zerodha has 'always grown differently from the rest of the industry, built on trust, referrals, and products customers genuinely talk about, not on flashy marketing.' Others called it a 'strong reminder' that referrals aren't built through gimmicks, but 'earned through real value.' CSIR-CFTRI prepares special menu for Gaganyatris

BENGALURU: With over a year left for the launch of the Gaganyaan mission, training of the chosen Gaganyatris has started and preparation of the spacecraft has gained momentum. The food the Gaganyatris will carry with them is also being planned. Council for Scientific and Industrial Research - Central Food Technology Research Institute (CSIR-CFTRI) officials in Dehradun and Mysuru are working on special menus for the four chosen astronauts on the mission, scheduled for launch in 2027. Discussions are on with Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) to craft nutritious wholesome meals which occupy meagre space. In 2024, the names of Group Captains Prasanth Balakrishnan Nair, Shubhanshu Shukla, Angad Pratap and Ajit Krishnan were announced for the Gaganyaan mission. Shukla and Nair were also part of the Axiom-4 space mission that concluded on July 15. Shukla was the mission pilot, and also the first Indian to spend 20 days in space, with 18 days on the International Space Station. A CSIR-CFTRI official said, 'The biggest challenge we are facing is similar to what every Indian suffers, no matter how well trained. Food should not just be nutritious but also sumptuous and wholesome. It should excite the taste buds and fill the stomach. Indians are particular about taste, so food should be good and have the required calories. Dairy and frozen products are ideal, but the form (shape and taste) is being worked on.' The laboratory recently developed millet tablets, where four pills can be taken as a meal and ensure a complete diet. Twelve pills (four pills, three times a day) meet the day's nutrition requirements, but this alone is not sufficient for astronauts. The team is working on paratha pills and conducting tests on powdered form or reformulated Indian dishes like sambar-rice, dosa and chapati. Formulations are being created without compromising on quality and aesthetics. The official said inputs will be taken from Shukla, who returned to India on August 16. Though Shukla had carried gajar ka halwa, moong dal halwa, vegetable biryani, dal, rajma-rice, khichdi, roti and mango nectar to space, he said he missed his food.

Indian Govt Alerts Millions Of Microsoft Windows 10 And Office Users Over Big Security Issues

Windows users, Office users and even the enterprise Microsoft subscribers are being warned about the new security risks. Microsoft Windows PCs and Office users are facing a serious risk because of security issues and the Indian government has alerted them about the concerns. Windows is the popular OS used by millions for their PCs and laptops, while Office lets you use apps like Word, Excel and PowerPoint. The latest concerning issue has been detailed by the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team or CERT-In in August 2025, sharing some worrying details about the security risks that make millions of Windows PCs vulnerable to hacking attacks. The latest issue is linked to a wide range of Microsoft products that is going to pose major concerns for businesses as well as individual users. The CERT-In alert explains the security concerns that are plaguing not just the Windows and Office users but other Microsoft products that are heavily relied on by businesses. 'Multiple vulnerabilities have been reported in Microsoft Products, which could allow an attacker to gain elevated privileges, obtain sensitive information, conduct remote code execution attacks, bypass security restrictions, conduct spoofing attacks, cause denial of service conditions or tamper with system settings," the CERT-In bulletin highlights the risks posed. Windows 10 which is soon losing support from Microsoft, as well as the current Windows 11 versions are part of the casualty list. The vulnerabilities are going to put millions of devices at risk, especially since the hackers can remotely execute their attacks. While for businesses, any intrusion into their system puts them at risk of ransomware attacks and other means to steal data. The company has notified the users about these security risks, identified the issues and offered updates for all the Microsoft products that people should be installing right away. We suggest you go to settings, enable auto-update Windows and reboot the system to have the new version installed to keep your PC safe. For other products, Microsoft's detailed update guide for August 2025 gives them more information about the issues and a fix for all of them. view comments First Published: August 20, 2025, 09:43 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
