Vijayawada:Chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday directed officials of the Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) department to immediately resolve issues related to outsourcing employees.
He sought complete details after reports emerged that several areas in Visakhapatnam were affected by water supply disruptions due to a strike by outsourcing staff.
Officials informed the Chief Minister that the issue in Visakhapatnam had been resolved with the active involvement of Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) officials. Naidu instructed MA&UD Minister P Narayana to convene a cabinet sub-committee meeting to focus on resolving the matter at the earliest.
He emphasised the importance of ensuring uninterrupted services, especially during a season when the spread of infectious diseases is more likely.
The chief minister advised prioritising cleanliness in urban areas and taking immediate preventive measures against infectious diseases. He emphasized proper disposal of poultry waste and maintaining high standards of hygiene at Anna Canteens. He urged urban local bodies to become self-reliant in generating power, including for streetlighting.
Additionally, Naidu instructed officials to secure maximum funds under various centrally-sponsored schemes in the municipal sector. He criticised the previous government for failing to provide the state's share in many schemes, which led to the loss of central funds. He called for the revival of all centrally sponsored schemes and the expedited implementation of projects funded by Rs 5,800 crore from the Asian Infrastructure and Investment Bank (AIIB) and Rs 3,000 crore under the Swachh Bharat Mission.
He stressed there should be no delays in executing projects under AMRUT, AMRUT 2.0, AIIB, and the Urban Infrastructure Development Fund (UIDF).

Serbia protests: Students lead massive rally against Vucic, thousands demand elections, dozens arrested

Serbia protests: Students lead massive rally against Vucic, thousands demand elections, dozens arrested Dozens of anti‑government demonstrators were arrested in Serbia's capital on Saturday night after hours‑long clashes with riot police that followed one of the largest protests against President Aleksandar Vucic in recent years. 'We want elections!'- slogans were raised by protestors who overflowed Slavija Square and nearby streets during the student‑led rally, capping nearly eight months of near‑daily dissent that has shaken Vucic's decade‑long hold on power. Protesters hurled eggs, bottles and other objects while police deployed shields and pepper spray. Officers were seen handcuffing detainees on the pavement; the interior ministry later said 'dozens of hooligans' were in custody. Six policemen and an unspecified number of citizens were injured. 'Serbia always wins in the end,' Vucic wrote on Instagram even as tensions flared. The former ultranationalist, accused by critics of eroding democratic freedoms while courting Russia and China, has repeatedly rejected calls for snap polls. 'Elections are a clear way out of the social crisis,' one speaker declared. 'Today, on June 28, 2025, we declare the current authorities illegitimate.' by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Perdagangkan CFD Emas dengan Broker Tepercaya IC Markets Mendaftar Undo Another student, Darko Kovacevic, told the crowd: 'We are mired in corruption.' Police estimated the turnout at 36,000; an independent monitor put it closer to 140,000. Interior minister Ivica Dacic accused protesters of attacking police and vowed all offenders would face justice. Serbia's next presidential and parliamentary elections are scheduled for 2027.

Major protest marks fee exploitation by private schools

Gadwal: In a show of resistance, student organisations came together on Saturday to protest the alleged fee exploitation and irregularities being carried out by private schools in Aiza Mandal of the Alampur constituency, Jogulamba Gadwal district. The protest rally, which began at Telangana Chowrasta and concluded at the New Bus Stand, saw students raising slogans and holding placards condemning what they described as 'commercialization of education.' Following the rally, a delegation of student leaders submitted a memorandum to the Mandal Revenue Officer (MRO), urging immediate intervention and strict action against erring schools, particularly the Sri Krishnaveni Private School, which was singled out for multiple alleged violations. Student leaders alleged that private schools in the region were collecting exorbitant and unregulated fees, in clear violation of the Right to Education (RTE) Act and existing fee regulation laws. They claimed that the Sri Krishnaveni School was forcing parents to purchase uniforms, textbooks, and notebooks at inflated prices from a shop operated illegally beside the school. The school's management had set up a fake certificate-backed book centre and was openly selling books on the roadside, yet no action was taken by education officials despite earlier complaints to the District Collector. The Mandal Education Officer (MEO) allegedly ignored direct instructions from the District Education Officer (DEO) to seize the illegal book stock, and even remarked that he would only take action 'if provided protection.' Furthermore, the students claimed that Bonafide and Transfer Certificates (TCs) were being issued only after collecting up to Rs 2,000 from Class 10 students. The school fee for Class 10 was increased from Rs 28,000 in the academic year 2024–25 to Rs 34,000 for 2025–26 without any justification. School staff, including drivers and teachers, were reportedly forced by the management to protest in front of the MEO office, allegedly with the support of the MEO himself. The situation escalated when student union leaders visited another school, Sri Chaitanya, after receiving reports about similar irregularities. They were allegedly assaulted by men linked to Krishnaveni School owner Madhusudan Reddy, who reportedly sent his drivers to threaten and attack the students. Demanding justice, the protestors urged the authorities to suspend the MEO for negligence and bias; cancel the recognition of Sri Krishnaveni School for repeated violations; file criminal charges against the school owner Madhusudan Reddy and the individuals involved in the assault; and enforce the RTE Act to ensure that 25% of seatsare reserved for underprivileged students.
