Education minister urges mass AI literacy and indigenous innovation at CPRG's meet
NEW DELHI: Union Education Minister
Dharmendra Pradhan
, on Wednesday, while speaking at the 'PadhAI: Conclave on AI in Education', organised by the Centre of Policy Research and Governance (CPRG), said that AI was both inevitable and essential.
"Just like the internet, AI has become a basic necessity," Pradhan said.
Speaking at the Conclave, Pradhan shared his thoughts on AI's transformative potential in reshaping the Indian education system.
Pradhan said that there are hardly any higher education institutions in India where AI is not discussed. He described AI as both inevitable and essential: "Just like the internet, AI has become a basic necessity."
The Union Minister added that increasing access to technology has created a highway of empowerment in students' lives.
He expressed optimism that India could effectively leverage AI, and said, "India's human intelligence has the power to transform any emerging technology into an indigenous innovation."
Pradhan shared the policy action required to prepare for the technological change, outlining efforts to build mass-scale AI literacy and support innovation in AI.
Pradhan commended the Centre of Policy Research and Governance (CPRG) for hosting this timely and much-needed policy dialogue.
Chamu Krishna Shastri, Chairman of the Bharatiya Bhasha Samiti, Ministry of Education, also addressed the Padh AI Conclave and said there is a critical need to strengthen the role of Indian languages in the AI ecosystem. He added that AI should be purposeful and contextual.
Padh AI Conclave, spread over two days, brought forward diverse insights on the role of AI in shaping the future of Indian education.
Speakers examined how AI is expanding learning beyond classrooms, transforming higher education, and the bottlenecks in the existing institutions.
CPRG is a policy research think tank that aims to promote responsive and participatory policy-making. As an Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR)-recognised institution, it has established itself as a leading voice in technology policy through its 'Future of Society' initiative.

Monks meet Amit Shah, raise issue of ‘violence against Hindus' in Bengal, cross-border infiltration
During home minister Amit Shah's visit to West Bengal, monks from several organisations met him raised their concerns regarding alleged 'violence against Hindus' in the state after an uptick in cross-border infiltration. As per reports, the monks cited the violence in Bengal's Murshidabad and Malda districts. During a meeting at Swami Vivekananda's ancestral home, the monks added that they raised their concerns while underlining the spiritual and cultural legacy of India. "We have raised the atrocities on Hindus in Bengal's Malda and Murshidabad districts and infiltration from Bangladesh but Shah did not respond to specific queries or any incident cited by monks," a monk, who was part of the meeting, told news agency PTI. "A central theme of the discussion was what is needed for collective effort. Participants reached a consensus emphasising the importance of working together as a single unit. Working together was the shared sentiment. This unified approach is aimed at benefiting the general public, specifically by exploring how spirituality can be applied in daily life for the welfare of people," International Vedanta Society joint general secretary Tejamayi Maa told PTI. During his visit to the eastern state, the Union Home Minister accused the TMC government and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of "opposing" Operation Sindoor. "Under Operation Sindoor, we conducted a deep strike 100 kilometers into Pakistan, targeting their headquarters. Numerous terrorists were killed, but this seems to trouble Mamata Ji" Shah said while addressing party leaders and workers. The BJP leader also accused the Bengal CM for "favouring" Pakistani terrorists. (With PTI inputs)

Kanimozhi-led delegation pays tribute to Mahatma Gandhi in Spain
Madrid [Spain] June 1 (ANI): All party delegation-led by Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi's statue in Madrid. The deleegatio is on the final leg of its multi-nation visit as part of Modi government's big diplomatic outreach following operation Sindoor. The delegation also met with the Indian community and engaged with them. Kaushal, a member of Indian diaspora highlighted the India's unity, and affirmed, 'Irrespective of their party politics, the awareness they (the delegations) bring here will portray our picture with regards to our achievement in Operation Sindoor... We are very grateful that they have come here... They should speak very loudly and expose terrorism... This is how we unitedly stand and portray new India.' Members of the Indian diaspora have expressed pride and support for Operation Sindoor, a initiative aimed at countering terrorism. Anusuiya, a member of the diaspora, said, 'We are proud that Operation Sindoor has been done from our country for responding to terrorism. We are against terrorism.' 'It is good that the ministers are visiting different countries and getting support from them,' she added. Earlier the delegation was received by Dinesh K Patnaik, India's Ambassador to Spain upon their arrival in the day,. Speaking in Madrid, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Dr Ashok Kumar Mittal outlined the purpose of the visit. 'Our final stop on this journey is Madrid, Spain, and first of all, we are meeting with the Indian diaspora here. We want to understand their sentiments and also make them aware of the sentiments of the Government of India and our Prime Minister,' he said. The delegation aims to engage with local government representatives, policy think tanks and Spanish parliamentarians during its visit. Notably, in a diplomatic outreach following Operation Sindoor, the Modi government has formed seven multi-party delegations to inform nations about Pakistan's links to terrorism and India's strong message of zero tolerance for terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. Seven all-party delegations are taking part in various outreach programmes in their countries they are assigned to. The delegation aims to brief international partners on India's response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and its broader fight against cross-border terrorism. Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7 as a decisive military response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack by Pak-sponsored terrorists in which 26 people were killed. Indian Armed Forces targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, leading to the death of over 100 terrorists affiliated with terror outfits like the Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen. The seven group of delegations were visiting Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Algeria, the UK, France, Germany, the EU, Italy, Denmark, Indonesia, Malaysia, Korea, Japan, Singapore, the UAE, Liberia, Congo, Sierra Leone, the US, Panama, Guyana, Brazil, Colombia, Spain, Greece, Slovenia, Latvia, Russia, Egypt, Qatar, Ethiopia, and South Africa. "Rescued Tamil Nadu from the depths it had fallen into": CM Stalin at DMK General Council meet
Madurai (Tamil Nadu) [India], June 1 (ANI): Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President MK Stalin on Sunday said that the people are well aware of the 'circumstances' under which the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) came to power and 'rescued' the state from the crisis left behind by the previous AIADMK-BJP alliance government. Speaking at the DMK's General Council meeting held in Madurai, Stalin launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led Union government, accusing it of 'trying to financially strangle' Tamil Nadu by 'withholding the rightful share of funds' due to the state. 'In the historically significant land of Madurai a land that exemplifies the ancient culture of the Tamil people we have convened this General Council meeting to make decisions essential for the future of Tamil Nadu, to devise strategies to confront and defeat the forces that surround and threaten the state, and to work tirelessly toward victory,' CM Stalin said. Drawing parallels between the gathering and a battle cry, he added, 'The moment I hear the call to battle, and when I see all of you gathered here, like tigers charging into the field with the speed to seize victory, I feel a surge of new energy.' He claimed that there is a growing 'wave of support' for the DMK government, alleging that some are trying to 'suppress' it. 'Whether in power or opposition, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) always faces the most criticism. However, more than a wave of opposition, it is a wave of support that is rising for the DMK government. Some are attempting to divert attention and suppress this support from coming to light,' he said. The Chief Minister said that the DMK government has been 'consistently fighting' against the Union government for their rights. 'The people know the circumstances under which we assumed office. We have rescued Tamil Nadu from the depths it had fallen into due to the previous AIADMK-BJP alliance government. Despite the numerous actions taken by the Union BJP government against our rights, we have been consistently fighting against them to this day. Even when they try to financially strangle Tamil Nadu by withholding the rightful funds due to us, we have overcome all those challenges and continued implementing welfare schemes for the people,' he said. Referring to the ongoing tussle between the State government and the Governor, Stalin said Tamil Nadu has achieved top ranks in development despite hurdles. 'Be it economic roadblocks, political hurdles, obstructions through the Governor, or attempts to snatch away our rights -- no matter how many obstacles the Union BJP government places before us, we have overcome them all and elevated Tamil Nadu to be the number one state in development across India today,' he claimed. With an eye on the 2026 Assembly elections, Stalin urged party leaders to stay alert to 'slanderous attacks' from the opposition. 'There are only a few months left until the 2026 Assembly elections. Hence, more than usual, the opposition will launch slanderous attacks against the DMK and its government. They will try to plant lies in the minds of the people under the guise of opinion polls. They will also spread these lies through social media. We must be prepared to counter all of this,' he said. Earlier in the day, the DMK passed 27 key resolutions at the General Council meeting held on a sprawling 90-acre site in Madurai's Uthangudi. One of the prominent resolutions condemned the Union Government for denying Tamil Nadu its rightful financial allocations. Over 10,000 party leaders, including Chief Minister MK Stalin and ministers, MPs, MLAs, and senior functionaries, participated in the gathering. This is the first time an event has been held in Madurai in 47 years, solidifying the party's influence in the southern region. Other major resolutions included a call to ensure the party's victory in the 2026 Assembly elections and to re-elect MK Stalin as Chief Minister, a declaration to observe June 3rd -- the birth anniversary of former CM M Karunanidhi -- as 'Classical Tamil Day,' and an expression of gratitude to Stalin for his efforts to uplift women in the State. Another resolution emphasised the need to publicise the DMK government's achievements among the people. (ANI)
