Israeli jets strike Beirut's southern suburbs for third time since ceasefire
A huge plume of smoke billowed over the area after the strike. There were no immediate reports of casualties.
In the warning, the Israeli military said that it was targeting Hizbollah facilities in the Hadath area and urged residents to move at least 300 meters from the site before the strike. Two warning strikes followed.
Fighter jets were heard over parts of the Lebanese capital before the strike near the Al Jamous neighbourhood, where gunfire was shot into the air to warn residents and urge them to evacuate, as families fled in panic.
During the last Israel-Hizbollah war, Israeli drones and fighter jets regularly pounded the southern suburbs, where Hizbollah has wide influence and support.
Israel views the area, where it has assassinated several of Hizbollah's top leaders, including chief Hassan Nasrallah, as group's stronghold and accuses the group of storing weapons there.
Sunday's strike follows two earlier attacks on the capital's southern suburbs, the first taking place on March 28, when Israel also issued a warning, and the second on April 1, when an unannounced strike killed four people, including a Hizbollah official.
The leader of Lebanon's Hizbollah group, Sheikh Naim Kassem, has recently warned that if Israel's attacks on Lebanon continued and if Lebanon's government doesn't act to stop them, the group would eventually resort to other alternatives.
Kassem also said that Hizbollah's fighters won't disarm as long as Israeli troops remain in southern Lebanon and the Israeli air force regularly violates Lebanese airspace.
Under the US-brokered ceasefire that ended the 14-month Israel-Hizbollah war, Israeli forces were supposed to withdraw from all Lebanese territory by late January, while Hizbollah had to end its armed presence south of the Litani River along the border with Israel.
Earlier on Sunday, a drone strike killed a man in the southern Lebanese village of Halta, according to the Health Ministry.
In a post on X that included footage of the strike, the Israeli military said that it had targeted a Hizbollah member, "where he was working to rebuild Hezbollah's terrorist capabilities in the area.'
Israel's near-daily airstrikes have killed scores of people, including civilians and Hezbollah members, in southern and eastern Lebanon since the US-brokered ceasefire went into effect, saying it targets Hizbollah officials and infrastructure. Israel says it's targeting Hizbollah holdouts in southern Lebanon.
The Lebanese military has gradually deployed in the country's southern region, and Beirut has urged the international community to pressure Israel to stop attacks and withdraw its forces still present on five hilltops in Lebanese territory.

Arab Parliament rejects dangerous statements by Israeli officials on West Bank annexation
Mohammed Bin Ahmed Al Yamahi, President of the Arab Parliament, expressed his strong condemnation and rejection of the dangerous statements issued by Israeli officials, most recently the statements made by the Israeli Minister of Justice, in which he explicitly called for the annexation of the West Bank and the imposition of Israeli sovereignty over it, WAFA News Agency reported. "This is a flagrant violation of international law and relevant international legitimacy resolutions, and an attempt to undermine all opportunities for a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution and an end to the occupation," he said. In a statement issued on Thursday, Al Yamahi stressed that these statements reflect the colonial expansionist approach pursued by the Israeli government, stressing his rejection of its blatant violations in the West Bank, including raids, arrests, the expansion of illegal settlements, the escalation of military attacks, the demolition of homes and infrastructure, and the displacement of citizens. He renewed his call on the international community, especially the Security Council and the United Nations, to assume their legal and humanitarian responsibilities and take urgent action to halt these systematic violations, hold those responsible accountable, and provide international protection for the Palestinian people. He affirmed that the Arab Parliament will continue its full and unwavering support for the Palestinian people and their legitimate national rights, foremost among which are their right to self-determination, return, and the establishment of their independent, sovereign state. Zarah Sultana quits Labour to start new party with Jeremy Corbyn
Zarah Sultana has resigned from the UK's Labour Party after 14 years to lead a new party with former Labour leader and independent MP Jeremy Corbyn. "Today, after 14 years, I'm resigning from the Labour Party," she said in a statement on Thursday evening local time. "Jeremy Corbyn and I will co-lead the founding of a new party, with other Independent MPs, campaigners and activists across the country." Sultana cited the Starmer government's support for Israel's war on Gaza as a reason for leaving, saying that "this government is an active participant in genocide. And the British people oppose it." The MP has been a particularly vocal critic of the Labour government's continued political, economic and military ties with Israel. New MEE newsletter: Jerusalem Dispatch Sign up to get the latest insights and analysis on Israel-Palestine, alongside Turkey Unpacked and other MEE newsletters She accused the political establishment of smearing "people of conscience trying to stop a genocide in Gaza as terrorists", an apparent reference to parliament this week voting to proscribe direct action group Palestine Action as a terrorist organisation, a move she strongly opposed. 'Socialism or barbarism' "We are not going to take this anymore. We're not an island of strangers; we're an island that's suffering," Sultana said. She added that at the next general election, "the choice will be stark: socialism or barbarism. "Billionaires already have three parties fighting for them. It's time the rest of us had one." Corbyn presents inquiry bill as UK spy planes continue flights over Gaza Read More » The MP said: "Westminster is broken, but the real crisis is deeper. Just 50 families now own more wealth than half the UK population." "A year ago, I was suspended by the Labour Party for voting to abolish the two-child benefit cap and lift 400,000 children out of poverty. I'd do it again. "I voted against scrapping winter fuel payments for pensioners. I'd do it again." The confirmation that a new party will be established, co-led by Sultana and Corbyn, marks a significant moment in British politics. It is unclear when the party will be officially launched. There is speculation that it could have a dozen MPs - including some defectors from Labour - which would make it a significant and prominent parliamentary grouping, and a serious headache for the Starmer government.
