Winding-up petition against Mah Sing withdrawn

KUALA LUMPUR: Mah Sing Group Bhd said a winding-up petition against the company has been withdrawn by the petitioner without liberty to file afresh.
In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, the property developer said the petition was related to a judgment dated Sept 13, 2024, obtained by One2Print Sdn Bhd in the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court over a trespass case.
Under the judgment, Mah Sing was ordered to pay RM61,770 in special damages, with interest at five per cent per annum from Jan 20, 2020, until full settlement, as well as RM21,000 in costs.
The company had earlier said it strongly refuted the basis of the petition and had filed an appeal in the High Court against the Sessions Court decision.
Mah Sing obtained an ad interim stay of execution on Feb 18 and deposited the judgment sum with a stakeholder pending its appeal, with further case management set for Aug 18.
It added that the withdrawal of the petition is not expected to have any material financial or operational impact on the group, apart from legal fees and related disbursements.

FBM KLCI climbs to four-month high on optimism

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia extended its winning streak to seven consecutive sessions, with the FBM KLCI closing at a four-month high, driven by US July inflation data that came in slightly below expectations at 2.7%, boosting hopes of a Federal Reserve (Fed) rate cut in September. At 5pm, the FBM KLCI jumped 18.70 points, or 1.19%, to close at 1,586.60 from yesterday's close of 1,567.90. The benchmark index opened 1.17 points firmer at 1,569.07, marking its day's low, and hit a high of 1,590.61 during the mid-morning session. The broader market was positive, with advancers trouncing decliners 686 to 390, while 491 counters were unchanged, 955 untraded and 18 suspended. Turnover improved to 2.71 billion units worth RM3.07bil from 2.53 billion units worth RM2.15bil on Tuesday. UOB Kay Hian Wealth Advisors Sdn Bhd's head of investment research Mohd Sedek Jantan said the prospect of US monetary easing has directly influenced sectoral performance on Bursa Malaysia. 'The FBM Technology Index and the FBM Financial Services Index led the broader market, each advancing more than 1%. 'Among the FBM KLCI constituents, telecommunications stocks were the top gainers, benefitting from investor rotation into defensive, high-dividend plays amid a stronger ringgit and a softer US dollar,' he told Bernama. He said that rising commodity prices lent additional support to palm oil and energy counters, underpinning the breadth of market gains. Meanwhile, market sentiment was also supported by upbeat regional market performance as well as easing trade tensions following the extension of a 90-day suspension on higher tariffs for Chinese goods. 'Investors are now turning their attention to the upcoming US producer price index and retail sales data due later this week,' he added. Among the heavyweights, Malayan Banking Bhd added 15 sen to RM9.86, Public Bank Bhd gained four sen to RM4.44, Tenaga Nasional Bhd perked up 22 sen to RM13.80, CIMB Group Holdings Bhd rose 18 sen to RM7.19, and IHH Healthcare Bhd put on nine sen to RM6.91. Of the most active counters, Sersol Bhd bagged one sen to 2.5 sen and Telekom Malaysia Bhd surged 23 sen to RM7.23. Meanwhile, Classita Holdings Bhd inched down half-a-sen to nine sen, Tanco Holdings Bhd fell two sen to RM70.5 sen, while Pharmaniaga Bhd was flat at 18.5 sen.

Avangaad divests RM45mil FSO

Avangaad Bhd executive director Datuk Mubarak Hussain Akhtar Husin. PETALING JAYA: Avangaad Bhd has finalised the sale of its floating storage and offloading (FSO) vessel for US$10.5mil (equivalent to RM44.5mil), which will deliver an immediate gain of RM29.4mil. In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, the company said it had entered into a memorandum of agreement with MTC Energy Sdn Bhd for the sale of the vessel. The engineering services company said the proceeds will be strategically redeployed into higher-yielding and longer-tenured assets, in line with Avangaad's long-term strategy, while providing additional headroom for financial flexibility. 'The transaction is expected to strengthen the group's financial capacity to sustain a broad, balanced fleet and expand its service offerings across oil and gas (O&G) and non-O&G markets.' Executive director Datuk Mubarak Hussain Akhtar Husin said the transaction is about 'creating optionality.' 'We are monetising this asset at the right time to ensure Avangaad stays agile and well-capitalised. In asset strategy, success lies in aligning capability with contract tenure.'

ES Sunlogy to develop RM488mil solar plant in Sarawak

The company said the project will be funded via a combination of bank borrowings and internally generated funds. PETALING JAYA: ES Sunlogy Bhd has revealed that its joint development of a 155 megawatt-peak large-scale solar photovoltaic power plant in Long Lama, Baram, Sarawak, will cost RM488.18mil. In a reply to a query from Bursa Malaysia, the mechanical and electrical engineering services company said the project will be funded via a combination of bank borrowings and internally generated funds, in a proposed ratio of 80:20. 'ES Sunlogy is currently in close discussions with two banking institutions to secure the necessary financing facilities for the investment in the joint venture,' it said. ES Sunlogy announced earlier this week that it had entered into a heads of agreement (HoA) with Planet QEOS Sdn Bhd to jointly develop the power plant. It added that the pre-development period is estimated to be not later than 18 months from the date of the HoA, which was executed on Aug 11, 2025. 'Project commencement is expected to take place following the pre-development phase, with targeted completion no later than the end of 2027. 'For avoidance of doubt, the HoA serves as a memorandum of understanding and does not constitute the final joint venture agreement. 'The definitive joint venture agreement is expected to be negotiated and executed within the 18-month pre-development period.' In the event of a funding shortfall or where additional cash equity is required beyond bank loans for the project, ES Sunlogy said it intends to meet such funding requirements via equity funding. 'Furthermore, this may involve the issuance of new shares to interested investors, subject to prevailing market conditions and approvals from Bursa Securities, shareholders and relevant authorities (if relevant), through a private placement exercise of up to 30% of its enlarged share capital. 'The company will assess the appropriate funding structure at the relevant time to ensure optimal capital management and to support the timely execution of the project,' it added.
