Telangana: Death toll rises to 34 in Sigachi pharma factory blast, rescue ops continue
According to officials, on Monday, over a dozen workers sustained injuries in an explosion at a chemical factory in Pasamailaram Phase 1 area of Telangana's Sangareddy district.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday expressed sorrow over the loss of lives in the explosion at the Sigachi Pharma chemical factory in Telangana's Sangareddy district.
The Prime Minister also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakhs for the next of kin of each deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund.
Union Minister and Telangana BJP chief G Kishan Reddy offered full support to the State government in the relief operations following the blast at a chemical factory in Telangana's Sangareddy, which killed at least 34 people and injured many.
'NDRF, Police and other agencies are engaged in relief operations...Central financial assistance of Rs 2 lakhs each will be given to families of the deceased persons and Rs 50,000 to the injured,' Kishan Reddy told reporters here.'The BJP never does politics on such issues. We will fully cooperate in relief activities...The state government should take all steps to prevent such accidents,' Reddy said.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also expressed grief over the blast. 'Saddened by the tragic accident in a chemical factory in Sangareddy, Telangana. The NDRF team rushed to the spot immediately and is continuing the rescue operation along with the local administration,' Amit Shah said in a post on X.
'My heartfelt condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones. Praying for the swift recovery of those injured,' Shah added.
On Monday, Director General of the Telangana State Disaster Response and Fire Services, Y Nagi Reddy, stated that rescue officials were unsure of the number of people trapped under the debris.
He added that, according to industrial experts, the blast occurred during the air handling and drying of Microcrystalline cellulose.
'Today, at around 9.48 am, there was a blast in the drying unit at Sigachi Pharma Company. The explosion led to a fire. A total of 12 people have died and 35 are injured in the incident,' Nagi Reddy told reporters after visiting the accident site.
'As per industrial experts, the incident happened during the air handling/drying of Microcrystalline cellulose. We are currently unsure of the number of people under the debris,' he added.
Rescue operations are still underway. (ANI)

Modi govt's recent forest conservation amendment act lacks proper implementation. Continued environmental degradation threatens access to clean air, sunlight, and food security," he commented. Kharge recommended utilising river water to develop forests near dam backwaters. He encouraged public participation in expanding forest coverage through home gardening. The state govt's target of planting 3 crore saplings this year could prove highly beneficial even if 2.5 crore plants survive, he added. Govt works towards gathering details of Ganjam youth in Mali
Berhampur: Union govt through the ministry of external affairs (MEA) has started work to gather details about a 28-year-old man from Ganjam district, who is suspected to be one of the three Indians abducted by a terrorist group in Kayes, Mali, on July 1. The Ganjam administration is in touch with the family. P. Venkatraman of Samarajhol under Hinjili police limits is an employee of Diamond Cement Factory. His family after losing contact with him on July 1 fears that he might have been kidnapped from his workplace and has appealed to the govt for his safe return. "The government has taken up the matter and the administration is in touch with the MEA. There is no clarity on the status of the Ganjam youth," said collector (Ganjam) Dibya Jyoti Parida. "Since the incident took place in Mali, we cannot register a case here, even though the family lodged a complaint. We are in touch with the MEA and his family," said SP (Ganjam) Subhendu Patra. The anxiety of Venkatraman's family is growing with each passing day. "Since June 30, I have had no contact with him. His phone is switched off. I am very worried about him," said P. Narasama, Venkatraman's mother. Swapneswar Mahadev temple declared protected monument by ASI
1 2 3 Bhubaneswar: The historic Swapneswar Mahadev Temple located on Bankad Fort premises in Banpur has been declared a protected monument by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). Known for its intricate Utkalian temple architecture, the structure stands testimony to the glorious legacy of early medieval Odisha. The temple, believed to have been built during the 6th to 8th century AD under Shailodbhava dynasty, is situated in the tribal-inhabited Niladriprasad village under Banpur panchayat samiti in Khurda district. "This declaration is not just about protecting a temple, it is about safeguarding Odia identity, heritage, and the spiritual consciousness rooted in our land," said law minister Prithviraj Harichandan in his X post. Harichandan recalled the efforts of his father, Biswabhusan Harichandan, who as the state culture minister in 1977-78 first entrusted the responsibility of protecting the site to the state archaeology department. However, the site remained neglected for decades. The temple's preservation received fresh impetus after the ASI took charge during the tenure of the Modi govt. The process was fast-tracked following formation of BJP govt in Odisha in 2024. The law minister thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Union culture minister Gajendra Singh Sekhawat, and former culture minister G. Kishan Reddy for their support. Bankad Fort, once the capital of Shailodbhavas, has long remained under-explored in Odisha's mainstream heritage discourse. With the ASI's official recognition, locals hope the site will now receive better protection, infrastructure, and tourism development. "This is a moment of joy for the people of Banpur and Odisha. We have waited long for this recognition," Harichandan said. Apart from Swapneswar Mahadev Temple of Odisha, the ASI has also included the rock shelter of Hazaribag in Jharkhand and Moidams of Sivsagar in Assam in the protected list. ASI has delisted 17 national monuments, sources said.
