Field Marshal meets Pakistani diaspora in Washington
ISLAMABAD: Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), who is currently on an official visit to the United States, held an important interaction with members of the Pakistani diaspora in Washington DC.
According to the military's media wing, the gathering was marked by a warm and enthusiastic welcome extended to the Army Chief by overseas Pakistanis, who turned out in large numbers to meet with the military leadership.
The community expressed deep appreciation for the professionalism, bravery, and sacrifices of the Pakistan Armed Forces, particularly lauding their remarkable success in Operation Bunyanum Marsoos/ Marka-e-Haq, the ISPR stated.
The diaspora acknowledged the operation as a testament to the armed forces' resolve and operational excellence in safeguarding national security.
During the interaction, Field Marshal Munir highlighted the pivotal role of overseas Pakistanis in enhancing Pakistan's global image. He commended their significant contributions to the national economy through remittances, investments, and distinguished achievements in various professional sectors. He termed them as true ambassadors of Pakistan who continue to represent the country's values, resilience, and potential abroad.
The COAS also emphasised the importance of sustained engagement and dialogue between Pakistan and its expatriate communities. He noted that overseas Pakistanis can serve as a bridge for global partnerships, investment opportunities, and positive international advocacy for the country.
Members of the diaspora shared their perspectives, challenges, and valuable suggestions during the open discussion. In response, the army chief reassured them of the Pakistan Army's commitment to national stability and progress, underscoring the importance of unity and collective effort in addressing common challenges.
The meeting concluded with a renewed sense of purpose and patriotism, as both the COAS and the overseas Pakistanis reaffirmed their shared commitment to work together for a stronger, more secure, and prosperous Pakistan.

Intra-day update: rupee sees slight dip against US dollar
The Pakistani rupee registered marginal decline against the US dollar, depreciating 0.01% during the opening hours of trading in the interbank market on Wednesday. At 10:10am, the local currency was hovering at 283.43, a loss of Re0.02 against the greenback. On Tuesday, the local unit closed at 283.41. Internationally, the US dollar held on to gains against major currencies early on Wednesday, buoyed by demand for safety as conflict between Israel and Iran kept investors on edge ahead of a Federal Reserve decision on interest rates later in the day. Israel has pounded Iran over the past six days to halt its nuclear activity and has asserted the need for a change of government in the Islamic republic. The US military is also bolstering its presence in the region, Reuters reported, sparking speculation of US intervention which investors fear could spread into a region replete with energy resources, supply chains and infrastructure. Against this backdrop, the US dollar has found support as a safe bid, firming roughly 1% against the Japanese yen, Swiss franc and euro since Thursday, helping it shave declines from earlier in the year. The greenback had lost more than 8% earlier in the year due to eroding confidence in the U.S. economy amid trade policies. The US dollar firmed as much as 0.1% against the yen on Wednesday to touch a one-week top. It was last at 145.21 yen. In early Asia trade, the Swiss franc was flat at 0.816 a dollar and the euro was up 0.1% at $1.149. A broader index tracking the greenback against six other currencies was little changed after a 0.6% jump in the previous trading session. Oil prices, a key indicator of currency parity, ticked up in early trading on Wednesday after ending the previous session up more than 4% on worries that the Iran-Israel conflict could disrupt supplies. Brent crude futures rose 19 cents, or 0.25%, to $76.64 a barrel by 0029 GMT. US West Texas Intermediate crude futures rose 23 cents, or 0.31%, to $75.07 per barrel. PIA's first special flight brings 107 stranded Pakistanis from Iran to Islamabad
Pakistan International Airline's (PIA) first special flight carrying 107 stranded Pakistanis from Iran arrived in Islamabad from Ashgabat on late Tuesday night. In a press release, PIA said that due to the closure of Iranian airspace, Pakistani citizens present in Iran reached the city of Ashgabat in Turkmenistan via land routes. The special flight of PIA was dispatched on the instructions of the government and Pakistani embassies in Iran and Turkmenistan played a key role in this entire process, said the national airline. 'In this difficult time, the national airline providing its services in the interest of the nation is a continuation of our decades-long tradition,' said the PIA. Amid rising tensions following Israeli air strikes, the government has issued a temporary travel advisory, urging citizens to avoid travel to Iran and Iraq. The Foreign Office advised all Pakistani pilgrims to reconsider their travel plans to both countries due to the evolving security environment. Officials emphasized that the government is closely monitoring the situation and remains committed to the protection and well-being of its citizens. On June 16, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said Pakistan had evacuated 450 pilgrims from Iran and was working to assist others still stranded. He added that the Pakistani Embassy in Iraq is actively engaged with pilgrims stranded there due to the closure of airspace. 'Measures are being taken to ensure their safety and arrange possible evacuation,' Dar assured.

US President Donald Trump is scheduled to host Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, for a lunch at the White House on Wednesday. The meeting, listed on the president's official schedule, will be held in the Cabinet Room and closed to the press.
