Hearts Break Over Face of 'Sweet' Dog Tossed Out of Moving Truck in L.A.

When onlookers saw Buddy the dog being thrown from a moving truck near a local park in Los Angeles, a good Samaritan stepped in.
After seeing the 1-year-old pup thrown heartlessly into the street, a kind stranger sprang into action, but now he is in need of somewhere safe.
A mixed breed with soulful eyes and a playful spirit, Buddy is described as friendly with dogs, cats, and kids, he's the kind of companion that would thrive in a home with another energetic pup—or with a person committed to active walks and park visits. While he doesn't bother cats, Buddy does best with playful pets and people alike.
Sabrina Escarze, 44, a local volunteer with the nonprofit Sweet Angel Dog Rescue who are coordinating Buddy's care told Newsweek: "Someone saw him and I guess it was near a park and he ran and hid somewhere. He's playful and sweet. It would be nice for him to have a yard or an active person in an apartment who takes him to the park."

After being temporarily fostered, Buddy was enrolled in a two-week board and train program, generously paid for by his first foster. But when health issues made it impossible for that foster to continue, Buddy was once again without a permanent home.
In 2024, approximately 5 million animals entered U.S. shelters and rescues, according to Shelter Animals Count—an increase of nearly 3 percent from 2023. By the end of the year, 103,000 more pets had entered shelters than had exited, contributing to an ongoing capacity crisis in U.S. shelters.
In the weeks since being found, Buddy has been cared for by local sitters, with the rescue team covering the costs. But funds are running low.
"We are paying for him to be at a dog sitter right now and it's adding up," said Escarze. "He really just needs a stable, loving place to call home."
Escarze shared Buddy's story on Reddit in a post on the popular r/rescue dogs where his story tugged at heartstrings.
"People can be so cruel!" said one commenter. While another wrote: "This baby deserves a home a hug."
Heartbreakingly, this isn't the first time a dog has been thrown from a moving vehicle recently as crowded shelters see an increase in animal abandonment rates. Last month, a Texas woman shared how she saw a dog dumped on the side of the road while driving to her grandmother's house.
While in May this year, a woman was horrified to see a dog thrown from a moving car out onto a busy road in Dallas, Texas.
Anyone interested in Buddy should reach out to Sweet Angel Dog Rescue directly.

Amazon Customer Left Stunned by 'Secure Location' Her Parcel Was Left In
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. An Amazon customer has shocked the internet after revealing the "secure location" where her online order was left. Reddit user u/jitterqueen, from Germany, shared a post on July 31 with a screen grab of the unexpected delivery photo she received when her order arrived. It certainly wasn't on her doorstep or even with a neighbor, but rather, in the trash. The Reddit poster told Newsweek that she "was flabbergasted" at where the delivery driver left her parcel, which was worth around €50 (around $57). "Not just at where they put it, but that they took a picture of it and proudly uploaded it," she said. There was also a parcel delivered for her partner at the same time, who received the same notification and delivery photo. The Amazon delivery photo that the customer received. The Amazon delivery photo that the customer received. u/jitterqueen / Reddit Newsweek has contacted Amazon via email for comment. Statista estimates that Amazon delivered approximately 5.86 billion packages in the U.S. throughout 2023. While many of its deliveries arrive without concern, there are issues that can arise. Amazon encourages its customers to contact them directly whenever they have an issue they'd like to resolve. To make matters worse for u/jitterqueen, the trash was being collected that same day. By the time she saw where her items were, she wasn't even certain if she'd be home in time to retrieve them before they were gone entirely. "I didn't get home early enough, but my neighbor managed to see it when he took out his trash and fished it out for us," she said. After sharing her delivery photo on Reddit, the post has generated plenty of attention online, leading to more than 25,000 votes and over 500 comments so far. The poster told Newsweek that she had no idea it would "blow up" and capture so much interest on Reddit. She has contacted Amazon about the delivery photo but, at the time of writing, says she hasn't heard back yet. "I've had them not ring the doorbell and just drive off, but never had anything chucked into the trashcan before," u/jitterqueen continued. In the days since the Reddit post went viral, hundreds of internet users took to the comments section to share their shock over the delivery photo, while others shared their own similar experiences. Among the 500 comments, one person replied: "right on top of the lettuce is diabolical." Another Reddit user wrote: "I can't even comprehend this. What was going through their mind?" While one comment reads: "At least no one is gonna steal it from there." Do you have any viral videos or pictures that you want to share? We want to see the best ones! Cat Comforts Owner After Breakup by Bringing Stuffed Animals Every Night
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A woman, processing a recent breakup, became touched when she realized her cat stepped in to fill the void and has become a "better boyfriend." Michelle rescued her 6-year-old long-haired black cat, Mowgli, from a construction site. Since then, he's been a vital part of the family, offering cuddles and love to her and her children, but when her breakup happened nearly five weeks ago, Mowgli began showing new habits as if he knew Michelle was not doing well. The night her partner left, she heard Mowgli calling, she told Newsweek via email. She originally thought the cat's meows were meant for the other feline, which her partner took, but instead, Mowgli jumped straight into her bed with a stuffed animal tiger. "Then he did the same, calling out and returning with another stuffed animal," Michelle said. "Sometimes it would be a soft-bodied baby doll or a larger stuffed animal." Photos of an owner's long-haired black cat named Mowgli who started bringing her stuffed animals every night since her breakup. Courtesy of Michelle This habit turned into a nightly routine for the last five weeks, she said. He's usually an outdoor cat, but comes in every night to take care of her. Mowgli will bring her about six items a night before he finally settles down to snuggle, which never happened while she was with her partner. Michelle said the only thing Mowgli would bring her before her ex left was pinecones from outside. He knew she didn't want "dead birds or live birds" inside. Besides gifting her items, Mowgli will also sleep next to her, touching her shoulder or her back. He follows her around constantly. He'll relax with her on the patio, each sitting on their own chair, soaking up the fresh air. "He and my children have helped me get through the heartbreak," Michelle said. "To be so completely loved by an animal is so healing. He really is the best knew I wasn't ok, and he stepped up to be my comfort." What Do the Comments Say? Michelle shared Mowgli's selfless acts to comfort her in a Reddit post to the subreddit channel r/MadeMeSmile, reaching over 2,100 votes and 32 comments. "He's showing you what you deserve. Mowgli is the real deal. Somebody else really wasn't," wrote a viewer. Another added: "Sometimes animals are better than people, hope you heal soon." A third person commented: "Mowgli is the sweetest little caretaker." Do you have funny and adorable videos or pictures of your pet you want to share?
