Lakers coach: Luka Doncic's fitness is 'work in progress'
One of the biggest storylines for the Los Angeles Lakers this offseason and heading into the 2025-26 campaign is Luka Doncic's physical transformation. After being criticized for being fat and out of shape over the last few years, he got in the lab this summer and got into dramatically better shape. He has reportedly dropped 30 pounds since last summer, and he has played very well for his native Slovenia during a few recent tune-up games in advance of EuroBasket 2025. However, he will have to continue to be fully committed to his health and fitness for him to fully tap into his vast potential in the years to come. Lakers assistant coach Greg St. Jean knows that Doncic still has room for improvement. St. Jean is currently with the Slovenian national team, which means he has seen the superstar in an up-close and personal way lately, and he said Doncic can still get better this summer. Via BasketNews: "I think it's still a work in progress," St. Jean told BasketNews. "I think the summer's not over yet. And he's going to continue to get better. I think we'll continue to see as he gets more in-game shape with some rhythm. "He's been doing a lot of training, and now he's going to be playing five-on-five competition. His game last week [the conversation took place on Friday] was the first time he's played five-on-five in a long time. "So it's a work in progress. We'll continue to see him play more and more, and as the tournament progresses, and then getting ready for the Lakers season," the Lakers coach continued. St. Jean wants to see the 26-year-old continue to head forward on the path he's currently on. "I think he's done a fantastic job working hard the entire summer. And that's something that we're going to wait and see. But that's the goal, right, is for him to continue to be able to push and play," he said. "He's somebody who plays a lot of heavy minutes, and he carries a heavy load. So that's going to be important for him as he continues to improve his conditioning. But we're really proud of him and he's done a great job so far," St. Jean concluded. Despite being out of shape and a bit hobbled last season, Doncic still put up 28.2 points, 8.1 rebounds and 7.5 assists a game after being traded to the Lakers. Several people across the league have said recently that they feel the Slovenian native is poised to have an MVP-caliber season and possibly even win the award.

Are Boston Celtics fans irked Kristaps Porzingis just showed out in EuroBasket play?
Fans of the Boston Celtics may have some conflicting feelings about seeing how former Celtics center Kristaps Porzingis has been playing with his Latvian National Team in FIBA EuroBasket exhibition games of late. After seeing Porzingis deliver a number of duds for Boston in the Celtics' 2025 NBA Eastern Conference Semifinals second round series vs. the New York Knicks, seeing KP recover and play well for Latvia is both good in that he has clearly recovered from the viral malady that took away his high-level play. But on the other side of that coin, it can be hard to wonder why fate didn't let him play for Boston like this when he was most needed. The hosts of the CLNS Media "How Bout Them Celtics!" podcast, Jack Simone and Sam LaFrance, took a closer look at his play in EuroBasket games recently. Check it out below! Giants great, Super Bowl winner Phil Simms lands new broadcasting gig after CBS exit
Giants legend Phil Simms is returning to the broadcast booth after his exit from CBS. The star quarterback, who called games for NBC and CBS from 1995 to 2016, will work three Big Ten college football games on Peacock this season, NBC Sports announced Tuesday. Simms was tabbed to serve as an analyst for the Illinois-Western Illinois game on Aug. 29, the Rutgers-Miami (OH) game on Sept. 6 and a third game to be determined alongside play-by-play announcer Paul Burmeister. I have had a great relationship with Paul Burmeister over many years so I know it going to be fun and exciting to work with him,' Simms said. 'I appreciate NBC for giving me this opportunity and I can't wait for the college football season to start.' The Super Bowl XXI MVP last played for the Giants in 1993 before joining ESPN as a studio analyst for the 1994 NFL season. Simms also announced weightlifting events during the 1996 Olympics and was a sideline reporter during NBA games. When CBS acquired the AFC package from NBC in 1998, CBS hired Simms and paired him with Greg Gumbel and later Jim Nantz. 3 Phil Simms on NFL Today's coverage at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada for Super Bowl LVIII. Simms, who worked at the network for 26 years, exited the show alongside former Bengals quarterback Boomer Esiason while Matt Ryan and JJ Watt succeeded the pair in 2024. 'Nobody asked me, talked to me or anything like that,' Simms told the 'Front Office Sports Today' podcast in May 2024. 'I waited for I guess over a couple months to see what CBS was doing, and I think the longer you wait, the more you know it's not gonna work out in your favor.' 'Phil is an elite analyst who gives the viewers the why of the game, while making sure to entertain. We are looking forward to having him back on the call for Peacock.'
