Browns' Decision on Shedeur Sanders, Dillon Gabriel Draws Attention
On the opening day of the Cleveland Browns' rookie minicamp, third-round pick Dillon Gabriel took the first quarterback reps over fifth-round selection Shedeur Sanders, igniting fan discussion despite coach Kevin Stefanski cautioning against reading too much into the early rotation.
Yeah, I wouldn't look into anything. I think you'll see the whole weekend going through the spring." Stefanski said when asked about why Gabriel got the first reps over Sanders. "I mean, we don't pay too close attention to who's in there."

A fan commented under the post, "This is why teams shyed away from him. This (expletive) is a distraction. I am sure his dad will be not shy a bout criticizing the team or coaches when Shedeur does not play."

On Friday at the Browns' CrossCountry Mortgage Campus in Berea, Dillon Gabriel was inserted ahead of Shedeur Sanders for the initial 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 drills.
A fan suggested a witty reply to such questions, "He should have just said alphabetical order and called it a day".
Another expressed his disappointment at how Gabriel is being treated, "Would the same question be asked if Shedeur took the first snap instead? No. The loser in all of this media love train is clearly Dillon Gabriel who's done nothing wrong and will made the 2nd hand by the media. God Forbid he wins the job and throws a pick or two. Shedeur better win the job cause having this guy as a backup would be as unfun as it gets for a starter Closest thing I've seen to Tebow since."

Gabriel connected on a touchdown pass to tight end Harold Fannin Jr. during red-zone work, demonstrating why he was a third-round pick out of Oregon this spring. He started his career at UCF in 2019, guiding the Knights to a 10–3 record, a 48–25 Gasparilla Bowl victory, completing 236 of 398 passes for 3,653 yards.
Almost every fan echoed the same sentiment, that the media is reads too much into it when it comes to the former Colorado signal-caller.
"The exact reason Stefanski and many other teams didn't want to select Sanders. The media CIRCUS that will constantly follow him." One said.
"Cleveland media is the worst. Actively trying to sow drama when there is none. Someone had to go first. Plenty of reps in rookie camp. So far all draft picks have been model citizens. All showed up, all have great mindset and 2 are already under contract." Another posted.

Can Cleveland's defense rebound this season?
Yahoo Sports' Jason Fitz and Frank Schwab share their expectations for the Cleveland Browns this season. Hear the full conversation on 'Inside Coverage' - and subscribe on Apple Podcasts , Spotify , YouTube or wherever you listen. View more Video Transcript The Browns stink. Advertisement OK. Now, this is where we're different though. I thought the Browns were gonna stink last year. You did not. Because I thought the Browns were going to stink last year. I'm on repeat for even though everybody, I, I, I, I, I'm loud about, I don't think the Browns are gonna be any good. I thought they were gonna be terrible last year. So I think they finished 3 and 14, which is a little worse than I thought they finished last year. I think there's still a 5 or less win team. I'm repeat for the Browns. Yeah, I've obviously got to be retreat. I've eaten a lot of crow on how, how high I was on the Browns. I did back off it a little bit when all the reports on Deshaun Watson in August were bad, but still, I'll take that L. I thought the Browns were going to be pretty good last year. Advertisement A lot of that was due to their defense and their defense just fell off a cliff, and we're reminded. Defensive greatness from year to year is is not always sticky, like it varies, it varies a lot, and it did for the Browns. The one hope for the Browns is that the defense does bounce back to at least a top 10-ish level. And when you have Miles Garrett on your side, that can happen. And then maybe the Browns run the ball really well with two rookie running backs who come in might might just transform their offense, but Man, the quarterback room is just, it's, it's tough. Like, I, how can you get behind any of those guys? Advertisement I don't know, like Dylan Gabriel, I guess, hasn't looked that great in OTAs. Shido Shidori fell for a reason. Joe Flacco's 40 and he was awful last year at the Colts. Kenny Pickett's never been that dude. Which of these quarterbacks, it like takes over, it just leads them to a good season. I don't know who that could be. Their schedule is just awful, like, If you could get them above 1 in 5 in their 1st 6 games, hats off to you, cause I don't know how to do it. I don't know where the wins come. I, I think it's a much better chance of 06 after 6 games. Yeah, the Browns could be bad. Like their only hope is they could be one of those, we're gonna run the ball 40 times a game and play good defense and squeeze out some 1613 wins, but even that, I don't, I don't know you could win close games with a bad quarterback situation. So yeah, I, I, I think the Browns are gonna be one of the worst teams in the NFL this year.

Bucs QB Baker Mayfield seen as deserving of something ahead of 2025
Bucs QB Baker Mayfield seen as deserving of something ahead of 2025 Baker Mayfield's career was sent out to sea after the Browns traded for Deshaun Watson in 2021. They went all in on the former Texans quarterback and gave up on their former number one overall pick who had led them to their only playoff victory in the last 30 years. From there Mayfield would hop around the league before signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and showing that in the right scenario he had a lot left in the tank. The former Heisman Trophy winner has a record of 19-15 with the Bucs and has passed for 8,544 yards and 69 touchdowns in two seasons with them. Because of that record and production, NFL Media's Tom Blair listed him among the NFL's best values in terms of contracts. Blair writes, ". . .he undoubtedly should make more than $33.33 million per year, which puts him below Sam Darnold, Geno Smith and Kirk Cousins on the contracts table. And, yes, that APY is roughly $20 million per year less than what Tua Tagovailoa, Jared Goff and Brock Purdy are receiving. In 2024, Mayfield was one of three QBs (joining Goff and Joe Burrow) to throw for 4,500-plus yards, while his 41 TD passes tied him for second-most in the NFL (with Jackson, behind Burrow's 43). . .Mayfield's current pact stands out as a jaw-dropping discount for the Bucs." Mayfield is entering the second year of a three-year, $100 million contract that he signed ahead of the 2024 season. Whenever he gets a likely extension with the Bucs, the value may be gone, but the price on a franchise quarterback is hard to have an exact number on it. He has shown he can be the guy for the Bucs, and with the team already building for the future with picks like Jalen McMillan and Emeka Egbuka at wide receiver, they have a long-term plan for him.

Arsenal signs defender Gabriel Magalhaes to four-year deal
Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes appeared in 210 games since joining the Gunners in 2020. File Photo by Vince Mignott/EPA-EFE June 6 (UPI) -- Arsenal signed Brazilian defender Gabriel Magalhaes to a four-year contract extension, the Premier League soccer franchise announced Friday. "It's an amazing club," Gabriel told the team website. "I'm so proud to sign a new contract. I love this club. I love the fans, my teammates, I love this stadium. "I'm so proud. Thank you for all the support." Gabriel, 27, joined the Gunners in 2020. He helped anchor a defense that allowed the fewest goals (34) in the Premier League for the second consecutive season in 2024-25. He also contributed 20 goals over 210 career appearances for the Gunners. The veteran center back made his senior career debut in 2016 for Brazil's Avai. He also played for Lille of France's Ligue 1 before loans to Ligue 2 club Troyes and Croatia's Dinamo Zagreb. "I arrived here as a young player and it's almost five years at this club," Gabriel said. "I've learned a lot here. I'm so proud of myself as well to have worn the captain's armband. It's an amazing journey. "I'm so happy to continue this journey and hopefully win some trophies for this club." The Gunners (20-4-14) finished second in the 2024-25 Premier League standings, 10 points behind first-place Liverpool (25-4-9). Gabriel sustained a hamstring injury during an April 1 win over Fulham and missed the remainder of the 2024-25 campaign, but said he expects to be healthy for next season. "It's going very well," Gabriel said of his recovery. "It was a bit difficult for me, but I know it's time to recharge. I'm feeling much better now and I'm so excited for next season." The Gunners will take on AC Milan in a friendly July 23 in Singapore.
