In LA, the casual and elevated often go hand in hand.
The best soup dumplings are found in a dilapidated mini mall. The most beautiful clothing is designed for lounging at home. And 1 Hotel West Hollywood's new Juniper Lounge & Garden—so comfy and relaxed that guests' dogs are often found asleep on the plush couches—serves up dishes with flavors so fresh and bright that they rival some of the best cuisine.
Thus was the concept of this restaurant and hangout from the outset, reflective of the hotel's overall biophilic design ethos—connecting guests with nature. The indoor-outdoor space meanders from the interior bar with neutral couches, raw wood coffee tables and abundant succulents through glass doors out onto a patio strung with fairy lights. Just beyond and below, the city glistens and sparkles.
It's this relaxed, dreamy vibe that draws in-the-know locals and visitors. 'Juniper Garden is like this little sanctuary tucked away off Sunset, totally unexpected when you step off that busy street,' describes Ginger Pierce, the property's director of food, beverage and culinary arts. 'When the DJs play in the evenings, the space comes alive…But somehow, it still feels like you're hanging out in someone's big, beautiful living room—a very, very nice living room!'
At first, Pierce had been reticent about moving from standalone restaurants to hotels, but the company's sustainable ethos spoke to her. She first joined the brand as executive chef at the 1 Hotel Central Park in 2015. And perhaps an eventual move to LA was always inevitable. After all, she grew up in Northern California and went to culinary school in San Francisco, which kickstarted a passion for fruits and vegetables. And, as Pierce says, LA always has something amazing in season. 'I developed a huge passion for produce—so much so that I even worked on a farm,' she recalls. 'My philosophy is simple: eat local and in season. You start to really look forward to certain ingredients, and you appreciate them more because they taste better—especially when they're picked ripe and haven't traveled too far.'
This ideology has shaped the offerings at Juniper Garden since its opening in August 2024. Pierce especially recommends their house-made breads and dips (including delicious Roasted Carrot Humus, Miso Baba Ghanouj, Pumpernickel Flatbread and Everything Crackers), as well as the farmers market-sourced crudités and house pickle plate. The local botanical spirits—combined with herbs grown in the onsite organic garden—are also a big draw. 'A Negroni with Botanist Gin and Lo-Fi Vermouth?' says Pierce. 'Sounds perfect to me.'
Ultimately, if the seasonal, fun cuisine is drawing diners in to this tucked away spot, it's the relaxed vibe that's also keeping them coming, again and again. As Pierce muses, 'Juniper Garden has become a community space where people can come together.'
And that's something we all need these days.

NBA Hall-of-Famer Paul Pierce says he walked 20 miles in robe to pay off on-air bet

NBA Hall-of-Famer Paul Pierce says he walked 20 miles in robe to pay off on-air bet (KTLA) – Don't let anyone ever tell you Paul Pierce isn't a man of his word. On Thursday, the Boston Celtics legend and former Los Angeles Clippers player appeared to make good on a promise to walk to work in his robe from his home somewhere in the San Fernando Valley to the Fox Sports studio in Century City. Advertisement The reason? Pierce's overconfidence in his former team. After the Celtics blew a 20-point lead in Game 1 against the underdog New York Knicks earlier this week, Pierce proudly proclaimed he wasn't worried about the team's performance or the possibility that the upstart Knicks could dethrone the defending champions. 'If the Celtics lose Game 2 at home, I promise you, I'm walking here tomorrow,' Pierce boldly announced during an appearance on FS1, as his co-hosts could be heard trying to talk him out of it. 'I'm walking here. I'm walking here. 15 miles. I'm walking here. In my robe. No shoes on. Bare feet. If the Celtics lose.' 'RIP Skype': What to know about your data Advertisement Hindsight aside, Pierce had reason to be optimistic. The Celtics are the reigning NBA champs, have home court advantage over New York and were betting favorites to beat the Knicks. Plus, blowing a 20-point lead as the favorites in the NBA Playoffs is just a fluke… right? Wrong. On Wednesday, it was deja vu for Pierce and fellow Celtics supporters. The Knicks outscored the Celtics 30-17 in the fourth quarter of Game 2 of the Eastern Conference semifinals, capped off with a game winning free throw by New York point guard Jalen Brunson and a clutch steal by forward Mikal Bridges to leave the crowd at TD Garden stunned. But Pierce took it in stride, posting a screenshot of his projected route to work shortly after the final buzzer went off. With two barfing emojis, the screenshot showed a 20-mile, eight-hour walk from his home to the Fox Studios. And, on Thursday, before the sun came up, Pierce posted a video on social media that showed him heading out on his morning commute – robe and all. He wasn't barefoot, but we'll give him a pass. Throughout the morning, Pierce checked in on Instagram, providing updates about his progress. He even took time to chat with some fans who found him on the street. Advertisement As of 12:30 p.m., he was live on social media, responding to fans who tuned in for the final stretch. 'I think I lost five pounds,' he joked during the live-stream. 'My feet hurt, my toes. I need a shower.' He also thanked fans who followed during his journey, giving him words of encouragement and even those who provided him with water along his route. Some on social media questioned the veracity of Pierce 'walking the walk,' accusing him of not appearing sufficiently sweaty, but the 2008 NBA Finals MVP swears it was legit. 'I'm never going to do this again,' he laughed. 'You thought this wasn't real? It's real.' Pierce Brosnan Has His Say On His Controversial MobLand Accent

Pierce Brosnan has spoken out about his polarising accent in the TV series MobLand. Although he was born and raised in Ireland, many viewers have been left feeling a little unconvinced by Pierce's Irish twang in the hit TV show, having been more used to hearing him performing with an English accent in the likes of Mrs Doubtfire, Mamma Mia! and the James Bond franchise. One critic in The Irish Times, for example, described Pierce's accent in MobLand as a 'horror for the ages', while The Independent's review called it 'preposterous'. Speaking to Radio Times, Pierce explained that because his own accent is 'very soft', his character's is 'a million miles away from me'. Pierce also claimed that he told his MobLand dialect coach that he 'needed a Kerry accent, so he gave me the name of a man and I Googled the guy and that was it'. 'I just gave it full tilt,' he claimed. Digital Spy also reported that Pierce told Today FM: 'Last summer I spoke to Guy [Ritchie, the creator of MobLand] for the first time about [the character's Irish accent] and having read the five episodes he said not to worry about it. '[He said], 'We'll just do it 15 minutes on the day, clear your mind, we'll sort it out, don't worry about it'. Of course, I put the phone down and did worry about it! 'Five weeks later I was on the set with Tom Hardy and Guy, first day, important dialogue, important information and he just said, 'more Irish, more Irish'.' MobLand sees Pierce sharing the screen with Tom Hardy, Paddy Considine, Joanne Froggatt and Helen Mirren, with whom he also co-stars in Netflix's upcoming adaptation of the best-selling novel The Thursday Murder Club. The 10-part drama has been generally well-received by critics, with no official word yet on whether a second season could be on the cards. MobLand's final instalment (for now, at least) will premiere on Paramount+ on Sunday 1 June. Paul Pierce films 8-hour walk to work in robe as Celtics trash talk backfires spectacularly

The NBA legend and FS1 personality made good on his vow Thursday as he chronicled an hours-long walk to work in a bathrobe after his pregame prediction of the Celtics taking Game 2 over the Knicks failed to come to fruition. 'Welcome to this journey, here I go,' Pierce, 47, said in an Instagram Story as he began the eight-hour, 20.2-mile trip in Los Angeles.
