iPhone 17 Pro Max to get bigger and heavier, but for the right reason

Hindustan Times20 hours ago
Apple's upcoming iPhone 17 Pro Max is shaping up to be the company's most battery-focused flagship yet. While the official unveiling is still expected in September 2025, new leaks suggest that the Pro Max model could include a significantly larger battery, reportedly around 5,000mAh in capacity. iPhone 17 series likely to go through major design revamp.( iDeviceHelp/ YouTube)
The information comes via a Weibo post by leaker Instant Digital, who claims the iPhone 17 Pro Max will feature a battery close to 5,000mAh. If accurate, this would make it the largest battery ever shipped in an iPhone, marking a clear effort by Apple to extend battery life on its top-tier device.
Battery Growth Year Over Year
Here's how the reported capacity stacks up against previous Pro Max models:
iPhone 14 Pro Max – 4,323mAh
iPhone 15 Pro Max – 4,422mAh
iPhone 16 Pro Max – 4,676mAh
iPhone 17 Pro Max (rumoured) – ~5,000mAh
This represents nearly a 10% increase in capacity over the iPhone 16 Pro Max, assuming the estimate holds true.
Why the iPhone 17 Pro Max Is Getting Thicker
Previous leaks have already indicated that the iPhone 17 Pro Max will be slightly thicker and heavier than its predecessor. This added thickness appears to be in service of housing a bigger battery—suggesting that Apple is prioritising battery endurance over maintaining a slimmer profile.
What Does This Mean for Users?
A larger battery typically results in longer usage time, but the real-world battery life gains will also depend on software optimisation in iOS 26, the efficiency of the A19 Pro chip, and display power management.
Still, the iPhone 17 Pro Max is expected to extend its lead as Apple's longest-lasting iPhone, especially for users who demand all-day performance without needing a recharge.
With Apple set to launch the iPhone 17 series in just over two months, more details are likely to surface. But for now, all signs point to the Pro Max model delivering the best battery performance Apple has ever offered.

Here's when Apple may launch its AI smart glasses to rival Meta's Ray-Bans and Google's Android XR glasses

Apple is reportedly preparing to launch its long-anticipated smart glasses in 2027, positioning them as a direct competitor to Meta's Ray-Ban smart glasses, according to noted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. While Apple has remained tight-lipped about its augmented reality ambitions, industry observers and supply chain reports suggest the company is moving forward with a dedicated smart glasses product. Here's when Apple may launch its Smart Glasses Unlike Apple's high-end Vision Pro headset, which debuted in 2024 with a $3,499 price tag, the upcoming smart glasses are expected to be lightweight, display-free, and focused on audio playback, video capture, and AI-powered voice interaction. Kuo says the glasses will support touch and hands-free voice control, allowing users to take photos, record videos, and listen to music—without pulling out their phones. Apple plans to offer multiple frame and material options, though it remains unclear whether it will partner with established eyewear brands like Ray-Ban or Oakley. Notably, the first-generation glasses will not feature augmented reality (AR) displays, putting them behind Meta's next-gen Ray-Bans, which are expected to include AR capabilities later this year. Despite the delay, Kuo projects Apple could ship 3 to 5 million units in the first year of launch, potentially outpacing the Vision Pro's estimated 500,000–700,000 units sold since its release. With Meta already having sold over 2 million pairs of its Ray-Ban smart glasses since 2023, Apple's 2027 entry signals a calculated move to refine the product and ecosystem before entering the market. Apple's iOS 26 will auto-pause FaceTime calls if nudity is detected

Apple's upcoming operating system for the iPhone – iOS 26 has a new feature that will automatically pause FaceTime video calls if it detects nudity. As part of Apple's new family tools for child accounts, the feature is currently available on the latest iOS beta build. First spotted by the YouTube content creator iDeviceHelp, the functionality is designed to limit dangerous interactions for children, but it looks like it will be applicable to adults as well. When FaceTime detects nudity on a call, it will display a warning pop-up message that reads 'Audio and video are paused because you may be showing something sensitive. If you feel uncomfortable, you should end the call.' The pop-up warning then gives users the option to resume the video call as normal or end it immediately. As it turns out, there is an option in iOS 26 test accounts, but it looks like the feature still works when the toggle is turned off. This might be a bug in the beta build, and we expect Apple to fix it when it rolls out the stable version or the next beta build of its operating system. In iOS 26 FaceTime will pause the Video if you're undressing while on a FaceTime call here's the on screen prompt warning that you get asking if you would like to resume audio and video or End the call.👇 — iDeviceHelp (@iDeviceHelpus) July 2, 2025 To turn it off, open FaceTime and head over to the app settings. Now, under 'Sensitive Content Warning', you will see a feature that says 'Detect nude photos and videos before they are viewed on your device. and receive guidance to help make a safe choice.' Unsurprisingly, many are concerned about their privacy and are wondering if Apple is keeping a tab on what happens on video calls. However, the feature description goes on to say that 'Apple does not have access to the photos or videos.' On its 'Communication Safety' support page, the tech giant says it is using on-device machine learning to analyse images and video attachments to see if they contain nudity. If it detects nudity, it will then make sure that you don't access to the photos or videos. Since the new feature is currently in beta, it is still unclear if Apple will ditch it in the coming beta builds or roll it out to everyone when the stable version comes out this September.

Tata Harrier EV Vs Mahindra XEV 9E Drag Race: Internet Divided On Results

There are two Indian brands working hard to bring innovative products to the Indian audience's disposal - Tata Motors and Mahindra. The former has recently launched the first-ever Indigenous AWD electric SUV, Harrier EV. On the other hand, Mahindra showcased its capability in the form of BE 6 and XEV 9E. While both of these SUVs are boasting roughly similar numbers for the 0-100 kmph sprint, the real-world results turn out to be different. We haven't done a 0-100 kmph time run for both of these cars next to each other, but someone has. The video embedded below shows the Harrier EV racing against the XEV 9E. The video was uploaded on YouTube, and it seems to have been shot during the Harrier EV's Quad Day exercise. This is where the company showcased the electric Harrier's off-roading capabilities. In fact, Tata Motors took participants on a taxi lap at the Buddh International Circuit, showcasing the SUV's handling and acceleration capabilities. Nevertheless, in the video here, the Harrier EV can be seen zooming past the XEV 9E in the drag race. Talking of their performance, the top-spec Tata Harrier EV comes with a 75 kWh battery with a peak power output of 238 Hp and a 0-100 kmph timing of 6.3 seconds. On the other hand, the range-topping variant of the Mahindra XEV 9E gets a 79 kWh battery pack, churning out 282 Hp. It helps it with a 0-100 kmph timing of 6.8 seconds.
