Doha-bound Air India Express returns to Calicut after mid-air tech fault
New Delhi
An Air India Express flight from Calicut to Doha had to return to the airport on Wednesday morning because of a technical problem, news agency PTI reported.
Flight IX 375 took off from Calicut International Airport at 9.07 am with 188 people onboard, including crew members. Around two hours later, at 11.12 am, it came back to the same airport. 'There was a technical problem with the cabin air conditioning. It was not an emergency landing,' an airport official told PTI. Passengers were safely taken off the aircraft.
An Air India Express spokesperson said the aircraft landed as a safety measure. 'It was a precautionary landing due to a technical fault. We'll arrange an alternate flight by 1.30 pm,' he said, adding that food and water have been provided to passengers at the airport while they wait.
Delhi to Kolkata flight aborts take-off
On Monday (July 21), an Air India flight from Delhi to Kolkata had to stop its take-off due to a technical issue spotted during the process. The aircraft, flight AI2403, had 160 passengers. The plane was stopped on the runway at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi so safety checks could be done.
Following standard safety rules, the cockpit crew decided not to continue with the take-off. All passengers were safely removed from the plane after it was brought to a halt.
Air India plane skids off Mumbai runway
At Mumbai airport the same day, an Air India A320neo aircraft skidded off the runway under the impact of heavy rainfall. The plane went into an unpaved area briefly before coming back onto the runway. All passengers and crew safely exited the aircraft after it reached the terminal.
The aircraft has been grounded. The main runway suffered slight damage. As such, the Mumbai airport authority (MIAL) activated a secondary runway for operations.
Air India finds no issues in Boeing 787, 737
Air India said on Tuesday (July 22) that it had completed safety checks on all Boeing 787 and 737 aircraft in its fleet. These checks focused on the locking mechanism of the Fuel Control Switch (FCS), and no problems were found.
The checks were done after India's aviation regulator, DGCA, ordered all airlines flying these models to inspect the FCS and report findings by July 21. This came after a crash involving a Boeing 787 on June 12 in Ahmedabad, in which over 260 people were killed.
The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) released a preliminary report stating that in flight AI171, the fuel control switches went from 'run' to 'cutoff' shortly after take-off. This caused both engines to fail, and the plane crashed in the Meghani Nagar area of Ahmedabad.

Advt IndiGo's own widebodies Advt Unfortunate quarter By , ETInfra NEW DELHI: For IndiGo 2025 will be marked as the year from when the country's largest airline's long-haul expansion started to take shape. While the airline had started operating to Istanbul utilising leased widebody Boeing 777 aircraft from Turkish Airlines on Delhi-Istanbul route from February of 2023, the experiences and services on those flights did not have much to write home then, the geopolitical fallout between India and Turkey has ensured that the damp lease agreement of Boeing 777 from Turkish Airlines comes to an end. Earlier in 2025, the airline executed a damp lease agreement with Norse Atlantic Airways for operating widebody Boeing 787-9 aircraft.'We have already inducted one widebody aircraft which is currently flying from Mumbai to Amsterdam and Manchester…we will be inducting the remaining five aircraft (damp lease from Norse Atlantic) during this financial year,' said Elbers.'It is much more than just two new destinations in Europe for us. It marks the start of a very new chapter in the book of Indigo.' he added. The airline will be launching new services to London and Copenhagen in the coming 2025, the next pivotal year for IndiGo will be 2027, the year from when it will start taking deliveries of its own widebody Airbus A350 aircraft. The airline signed an agreement for the purchase of 60 firm Airbus A350-900 aircraft, with the first 30 expected to be delivered between 2027 and 2032.'These widebodies will give us the reach, flexibility and scale to tap into the unserved global routes and position us as the preferred airline for long-haul journeys,' said to Airbus, the A350 is the world's most modern and efficient widebody aircraft in the 300-410 seater category with a clean sheet design including state-of-the-art technologies and aerodynamics delivering efficiency and 2027, the damp lease agreement with Norse Atlantic for six widebody aircraft is expected to ensure immediate capacity requirement for IndiGo's long-haul the exuberance of starting its long-haul chapter, the airline experienced an unsavoury Apr-Jun quarter with the bottomline taking a hit due to challenges posed by closure of Pakistani airspace and fallout from the crash of Air India's flight AI-171 in Ahmedabad on June 12.'The quarter started on a strong note but was later shaped by significant external challenges, geopolitical tensions and airspace restrictions, leading to increased block times on certain routes and an increase in cancellations across several key air corridors,' said Elbers.'In June, as the booking, and passenger cancellations were beginning to normalise, we had a tragic (Air India) AI171 accident. This led to a caution in travel sentiment, particularly on the international side and further conflict in the Middle East region led to airspace closures from mid June, which in turn led to cancellation of over 100 flights for a period of two days,' he the consolidated net profit for the airline in the quarter declined 20.2 per cent year-on-year to ₹2,176 crore, consolidated revenue from operations rose 4.7% per cent year-on-year to ₹20,496 of June end, the airline had a fleet of 416 aircraft and as per the management the airline's carrying capacity will further increase in the Jul-Sep quarter.

Trichy airport sees record 76k domestic flyers in June
1 2 3 TRICHY: Trichy International Airport recorded its highest-ever domestic passenger traffic in June, handling 76,035 passengers — a 64% increase over the same month last year, according to data from the Airports Authority of India (AAI). Though only one new domestic destination was introduced and 22 weekly services added, Trichy recorded the highest rise in domestic traffic among 33 international airports in the country. Integration of flight services in both incoming and outgoing traffic is one of the main reasons for the surge in domestic passengers. In June 2024, the airport handled 46,375 domestic passengers through 80 weekly flights to four cities. By June 2025, this rose to 76,035 passengers via 102 weekly flights to five destinations. Although the number of weekly flights grew by just 27%, passenger numbers jumped 64%. Traditionally seen as an international hub, Trichy airport is increasingly being used by passengers to access other international gateways such as Kochi, Hyderabad, and Mumbai, especially for Gulf-bound travel. In turn, passengers from those cities are flying into Trichy to tap into its strong Southeast Asia connectivity. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Unsold 2023 Cars Now Almost Free - Prices May Surprise You Unsold Cars | Search Ads Learn More Undo Kochi was the latest addition in May 2025 and offers tourists quick access to Velankanni. 'We persuaded Air India Express to launch domestic services. New Delhi is under consideration. We'll also push Indigo to expand its offerings from Trichy,' said MP and airport advisory committee chairman Durai Vaiko. 'Airlines will be suggested to move ATR flights to smaller airports and introduce narrowbody flights for domestic services connecting Trichy. New flight connectivity from Trichy to Kolkata is on cards too,' airport director S Gnaneswara Rao said. 'There is demand for connectivity to Trivandrum, Mysore, and Kannur. Trichy is better connected to Kuala Lumpur and Singapore than many tier-I cities,' said aviation analyst H Ubaidullah.
