Bihar draft rolls: ‘Husband Husband', ‘father voter ID card' instead of names, EC takes action after errors flagged
After social media users pointed out some errors in the draft electoral roll of Bihar published on August 1, a month after the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, Election Commission officials said Sunday that they would rectify those and action would be taken against Booth Level Officers (BLOs) responsible. Among the errors flagged were 'husband husband', 'father father', 'father voter ID card' and 'Election Commission of India' written instead of the names of the husband or parent of some electors. The mistakes, according to EC sources, pertained to Chapra Assembly constituency of Saran district. The names had been included with the same errors in the second supplementary electoral roll issued in March, they said. For example, in one booth in Chapra, a 22-year-old woman elector's father's name was mentioned as 'father father'; husbands of two women were mentioned as 'husband husband'; a 21-year-old woman's father's name was shown as 'father's voter ID card', and a 19-year-old woman's mother's name was listed as 'Election Commission of India'. Saran District Magistrate Aman Samir, who is also the District Election Officer, said in a statement on Sunday that an inquiry has been initiated and action would be taken against the BLO in-charge at the time and the new BLO as well. Samir said that four names, with the errors, had been in the rolls before the SIR and that Form-8 — for making corrections to entries on rolls — were also processed. The names were added using the BLO app sometime between January 2025 and March 2025, the DM said. Electors and political parties can file claims and objections from August 1 to September 1, either to include or remove a name from draft rolls. As of 3 pm Sunday, the EC statement said that 941 claims and objections have been filed by electors, while nothing has been filed by the Booth Level Agents (BLAs) of national or state parties. As per the EC's order on June 24, all 7.89 crore Bihar electors were required to fill the enumeration forms by July 25, to be included in the draft rolls. After the month-long exercise, a total of 7.24 crore electors were included, while 65 lakh removed since the EC found that some were dead, others had permanently shifted, enrolled in multiple places or untraceable. The final roll will be published on September 30. Those who registered after January 1, 2003, when the last intensive revision was conducted, are required to submit documents establishing their eligibility, which includes citizenship, by September 1. Watch: Thousands of Palestine supporters 'March for Humanity' in Sydney; demand Gaza aid, sanctions on Israel
Marchers on the Sydney harbour bridge (@MaryKostakidis) Tens of thousands of pro-Palestinian and anti-Israel protesters marched across Sydney's Harbour Bridge on Sunday, calling on international community for a larger aid access to Gaza and sanctions against Israel, according to the several viral clips on social media. The demonstration in Australia's largest city came just days after a government minister signaled that Australia may recognize a Palestinian state in the future, and amid growing international criticism of Israel over worsening famine-like situation in Gaza. Organized by the Palestine action group Sydney, the protest accused Israel of committing genocide in its conflict with Hamas, an allegation Israel denies. The group outlined its demands on Facebook before the march, unrestricted humanitarian aid to Gaza, 'immediate Israeli ceasefire and withdrawal' and the imposition of sanctions and an arms embargo on Israel, reported news outlet The Times of Israel. The protest, titled the 'March for Humanity,' made no mention of Hamas or the 50 Israeli hostages still held in Gaza in its list of demands shared on Facebook. Some participants carried pots and pans to represent the widespread hunger in the Gaza Strip. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like This new air conditioner cools down a room in just seconds News of the Discovery Undo Earlier the protest got a green signal from the Australian supreme court, after the New South Wales police and the state's premier had tried to block the march on Sydney harbour bridge citing 'safety hazards and transport disruptions," in what organisers called a 'historic decision,' according to the news outlet. Viral clips on social media show the protesters ranging from from the elderly to families with young children. Among demonstrators were WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange and former Australian foreign minister Bob Carr, as reported by several media reports. New South Wales police estimated the crowd at up to 90,000, well above expectations. However, Palestine action group Sydney claimed on Facebook that the turnout may have reached 300,000. "Shame shame Israel, shame shame USA," the crowds chanted. "What do we want? Ceasefire. When do we want it? Now," crowds can be heard chanting in the viral posts.

WCL 2025: PCB imposes blanket ban following India's withdrawal from matches
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has imposed a blanket ban on Pakistan's participation in all future editions of the World Championship of Legends (WCL). This move comes in response to India's withdrawal from matches against Pakistan, citing national sentiments following public outrage. India was originally scheduled to face Pakistan in the group stage of the tournament. However, due to widespread backlash on social media and the withdrawal of players like Shikhar Dhawan and Suresh Raina, the fixture was cancelled by the organisers. Later, India was supposed to meet Pakistan again in the semi-final, but the team pulled out just a day before the match, giving Pakistan a direct route to the final. Pakistan eventually lost the title clash to South Africa. The PCB, during its 79th BoG meeting held virtually under the chairmanship of Mohsin Naqvi, reviewed with considerable disappointment WCL's appalling conduct of awarding points to a willfully forfeiting team, and the content of the press releases of the WCL announcing the cancellation of the scheduled India vs. Pakistan legends matches, which were tainted with hypocrisy and bias,' the PCB said in their statement. 'The contents of the said press releases highlight a duality where the narrative of 'peace through sport' is selectively applied and sporting events are held hostage to political expediency and narrow commercial interests,' it added. Live Events The backlash in India follows the deadly Pahalgam terror attack , where 26 tourists were killed. In response, India launched Operation Sindoor, targeting terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The WCL's second edition concluded on Saturday, with South Africa defeating Pakistan by nine wickets in the final held at Edgbaston, Birmingham.
