(Reuters) -Leicester City have parted ways with manager Ruud van Nistelrooy by mutual agreement after the team were relegated from the Premier League last season, the club said on Friday.
Former Manchester United and Real Madrid striker Van Nistelrooy joined Leicester in November with the side struggling in 16th place in the table. They ended the campaign in 18th.
The 48-year-old won his first match in charge but was unable to turn Leicester's season around, winning only five matches during his tenure as they finished 13 points from safety and returned to the Championship.
"Ruud has overseen a challenging period for the club," Leicester said in a statement. "(He) moves on with the respect and thanks of everyone at the football club for his dedication and hard work, and with our very best wishes for the future."
Regarded as one of the Premier League's best strikers ever, Van Nistelrooy previously led PSV Eindhoven to the Dutch Cup as manager before joining compatriot Erik Ten Hag's United staff as an assistant coach.
He served as interim coach at Old Trafford after Ten Hag was fired, until new manager Ruben Amorim took charge.
'I would like to personally thank the Leicester City players, coaches, academy and all the staff I have worked with for their professionalism and dedication during my time at the club," Van Nistelrooy said in a statement.
The first-team coaching staff will oversee the start of pre-season until a new manager is appointed, Leicester added.

LONDON: Brentford on Friday confirmed the appointment of former set-piece coach Keith Andrews as their new manager to replace Thomas Frank. Frank left the Bees to take charge of Tottenham earlier this month after guiding Brentford to a 10th-place finish in the Premier League last season. Andrews was the surprise choice to succeed Frank, with Brentford reportedly picking him ahead of Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna and former Ajax manager Francesco Farioli. Owner Matthew Benham's decision to hand Andrews his first managerial role is a significant gamble. Andrews, a former Irish international, joined Brentford's backroom staff in 2024 to work as their set-piece expert. Andrews established Brentford as one of the Premier League's most effective sides at set-pieces last season and was also hailed for his impact on their habit of scoring early in games. "I love being on the grass, I love developing young players, I love seeing the growth in young players as players and as human beings. There's clear alignment between myself and the football club on that," he said. However, Andrews takes over facing a potential rebuilding job at Gtech Community Stadium. Goalkeeper Mark Flekken has joined Bayer Leverkusen, winger Bryan Mbeumo is the subject of a second bid from Manchester United and midfielder Christian Norgaard is reportedly set to move to Arsenal. "Keith is a very, very good person," said director of football Phil Giles. "He has good values and fits our culture well. He gets on with everyone, he's very open and he's a learner. "He's got very clear ideas about how he wants the team to improve.... He's a perfect fit for what we were looking for."

He was forced off in the first half of Everton's final game at Goodison Park last month with a thigh injury but is expected to be fit in time for next season. "Thanks to the hard work of many people, we've been able to get into our magnificent new stadium and pave the way for a brighter future under ambitious new owners (Friedkin Group), which I want to be part of," Coleman said in a statement. Coleman joined the Merseyside club from Sligo Rovers in 2009 during David Moyes' first spell as manager. Moyes joined for a second spell in January, guiding Everton to a 13th-place finish. "In David Moyes, we have the perfect manager to lead us into a new era. He showed his abilities once again with the way he had us playing after returning last season. "As the man who brought me to Everton, I can't speak highly enough of him. He gets this football club, the standards required every day, and what it means to play for Everton." Coleman holds the club record for most Premier League appearances (369) and is joint 12th on Everton's all-time list with 428 matches in all competitions, just five behind Dixie Dean and Leon Osman. Soccer-FC Barcelona sells bonds, restructures stadium-revamp debt

The Spanish football club had secured 1.45 billion euros ($1.70 billion) in financing in 2023 from 20 investors including Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan to overhaul its ageing stadium. The men's first team is scheduled to play a friendly at Camp Nou on August 10 in a partial reopening. The club said in a statement that Goldman Sachs, acting as financial adviser, had facilitated the restructuring of the 424-million-euro debt tranche, allowing the full debt to be repaid from 2033 to 2050. Under the original 2023 deal, the club had been due to pay back investors in progressive tranches - after five, seven, nine, 20, and 24 years. "The club is fulfilling the necessary steps to ensure a gradual and staggered repayment," FC Barcelona said. The average cost of the refinanced amount stands at 5.19%. Barcelona expects the modernised stadium to boost annual revenues by more than 200 million euros through sponsorship deals, naming rights, ticket sales, catering, VIP services, and events.
