Delhi: 9 held for flaunting, possessing illegal arms; 24 pistols seized
According to the police, on the intervening night of August 12 and 13, multiple teams, acting on a tip-off, zeroed in on the suspects who had allegedly been displaying firearms on social media.
The crackdown, based on patrolling inputs, led to the recovery of one semi-automatic pistol, 23 country-made pistols, and 28 cartridges from the accused, the official added.
'Ahead of Independence Day, we intensified our cyber monitoring to identify such criminals. Dedicated teams were deployed to track and apprehend them," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer North) Hareshwar Swami said in a statement.
The officer further stated that three accused — Yameen alias Joni (28), Shri Ram alias Chotu (21), and Aaditya (19) — were caught from Shahbad Dairy, NIA, and Bhalswa Dairy areas. Nine country-made pistols, a semi-automatic pistol, and 15 live cartridges were recovered from them.
Two others — Aakash (21) and Amarjeet alias Happy (26) — were nabbed from Narela and Bawana, respectively. Five pistols and six live cartridges were seized from them.
In another set of operations, four men — Sonal Mishra (23), Momin Khan (25), Noor Hasan (26), and Anand alias Mitthu (36) — were arrested from Shahbad Dairy, JJ Colony in Bawana and Nathupura.
The police recovered a pistol and two cartridges from Mishra, a pistol and a cartridge each from Khan and Hasan, and a pistol with two cartridges from Mitthu.
Yameen alias Joni, with three previous involvements in robbery and hurt cases, is allegedly an associate of criminal Sanju Sehrawat and linked to the Neeraj Bawana gang.
While Shri Ram and Aaditya allegedly used to flaunt firearms on social media to instil fear, Aakash and Amarjeet, both from the Narela-Bawana belt, were allegedly active in illegal arms circulation, the police said.
Sonal Mishra has a prior record of 14 cases, including robbery, snatching, theft, and offences under the Arms Act, while Momin Khan has four past cases under the Arms Act and the NDPS Act.
Noor Hasan has a staggering 50 criminal cases to his name, the police mentioned, adding that Anand alias Mitthu also has a criminal history.
Further investigation is underway to trace the source of the weapons, the police stated. PTI BM BM MPL MPL

Four killed, 11 injured as mini bus collides with small truck in MP's Shivpuri
SHIVPURI: Four persons were killed and 11 others injured after the mini bus they were travelling in collided with a small truck on a highway in Madhya Pradesh's Shivpuri district on Saturday, police said. The accident occurred around 5 am on National Highway 46, around 30 km from the district headquarters, when the mini bus carrying a Gujarat-based music troupe was returning from a programme at the Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi, Survaya police station house officer (SHO) Arvind Chari told PTI. He said the bus driver lost control of the wheel, entered the wrong lane and collided with a small truck. The deceased included Hardik Dave (37), a singer in the music troupe, Raja Thakur (28), Ankit Thakur (17) and Rajendra Solanki (47), all members of the band, the SHO said. He said the injured persons have been admitted to hospitals. A preliminary probe suggests that the driver of the mini bus with 17 people onboard might have dozed off at the wheel, Chari said, adding that further investigation is underway.

Goondas Act invoked on economic offenders for the first time in Tamil Nadu
In a bid to combat economic crimes, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has begun detaining economic offenders under the Goondas Act. The action was expected to serve as a strong deterrent to potential offenders, sending a clear message that economic offences would be met with strict and immediate consequences, said Director-General of Police (DGP) Shankar Jiwal. In light of the rising incidence of financial frauds in Tami Nadu, the government, through an order dated July 8, has empowered the EOW to detain economic offenders under the provisions of the Tamil Nadu Goondas Act. The EOW, Dindigul Unit, registered a case against the founders of Sree Nesha Company — C. Senthilkumar, his wife Jeyanthi, and their relative Sakthivel. The company allegedly defrauded investors by promising two grams of gold coin and 2.5% rate of interest for 180 days on their investment of ₹5 lakh. They promised that they would return the invested money after 180 days. They also claimed that the money collected through Sree Nesha Niruvanam would be used for the education and medical treatment of Scheduled Tribes. However, the investors did not receive their money back. Following this, the EOW arrested Senthilkumar and Jeyanthi, the prime accused in the scam. They were remanded in judicial custody on July 16 and lodged at the Madurai Central Prison. Following recommendations from the Superintendent of Police, EOW, South Zone, Dindigul Collector S. Saravanan issued an order to detain Senthilkumar.

Arms dealer Salim Pistol worked as ‘channel' between suppliers and buyers: Delhi Police
Saleem Ahmed alias Salim Pistol, an arms dealer arrested from the Indo-Nepal border, was working as a middleman between foreign firearm suppliers and buyers in Delhi and the surrounding areas, according to police investigations. Official sources said Salim was interrogated by the Delhi Police and other security agencies after being arrested by the Special Cell at the India-Nepal border last week. He has been in police custody for ten days. While staying abroad, he allegedly posed as a businessman involved in the property trade. However, he was helping suppliers of illegal firearms connect with gangsters and criminals in India, said sources. 'He acted as a conduit and often provided foreign-made pistols to gangsters. It has been stated that he was the one who supplied the Zigana pistol to the shooters who assassinated Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala in Punjab,' a source said. According to the dossier on Salim prepared by the Delhi Police, he dropped out of school after Class 8 due to poverty and began working as a car driver. In 1992, he got married and has two children. In the same year, he was allegedly involved in an assault case and was booked under Section 324 of the IPC (voluntarily causing hurt on grave and sudden provocation) at the Seelampur police station. According to the dossier, this was his first recorded offence. Later, he was involved in at least nine cases related to murder, theft, robbery, and violations of the Arms Act across various police stations in northeast Delhi, up until 2018. 'To support his vices, he, along with Mukesh Gupta alias Kaka, began committing auto thefts. On April 7, 2000, the duo stole a car from Chandni Chowk using a master key and were arrested a month later. They were found driving the same vehicle with a fake number plate,' the dossier states. On August 7, 2012, he and his associates were allegedly involved in an attempted robbery of Rs 20 lakh from a house in Jafrabad. He was arrested in connection with the case in 2013 and was later released on bail. An officer said, 'Salim used to supply firearms and was a well-known arms supplier among criminals and gangsters in Delhi and neighbouring states. This is why they used to call him Salim Pistol.' Salim was last arrested in 2018 in connection with an arms supply case. 'Interrogators are now trying to ascertain his links with foreign-based arms suppliers,' the officer said. The officer added that Salim's house is located in northeast Delhi's Jafrabad area, where his wife, children, and other family members reside. However, they refused to speak to the media when approached after his arrest.
