Lowry hot start fizzles out on Canadian Open final day

RTÉ News9 hours ago

Shane Lowry burst out of the blocks and briefly threatened to spreadeagle the field with a sensational start to his final round at the Canadian Open on Sunday.
The Offaly man ran through his opening four holes in five-under-par to incredibly turn a four-stroke overnight deficit into a one-shot lead at Osprey Valley's North Course.
It proved something of another Sunday false dawn for the 2019 Open Champion however.
He played his remaining 14 holes in two-over-par to post a closing three-under 67 and end his week on -13 overall, which looks likely to be good enough to see him finish somehwere around the top dozen on the leaderboard.
American Sam Burns scorched around the North Course in 62 strokes to post the clubhouse lead at -18 with Cam Young a shot further back late in his round.

He started with an eagle on the par-five first, driving to the fairway and then producing an approach to three feet. A four-foot putt followed on the second for a birdie and he backed that up with a chip in for another on three before sinking a putt from nine feet for a third consecutive birdie on the par-three fourth. A bogey on the par-four ninth was his only dropped shot but he couldn't maintain the earlier momentum until a birdie three on the 15th. However, back-to-back bogeys on 17 and 18 meant Lowry had to make do with finishing for a share of 13th with play still ongoing.
