Steve Clarke's side host Iceland at Hampden on Friday, June 6, before traveling to Vaduz on Monday, June 9 for the friendly fixtures, in preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

I realised Motherwell boss Jens Berthel Askou would be a success after his incredible moment in game vs St Johnstone
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) BRYAN GUNN knew Motherwell 's new manager Jens Berthel Askou would be a success in British football when he watched him head a clearance SIXTY YARDS - in Scotland. Gunn was Norwich manager when Askou arrived on trial at the club in the summer of 2009. 3 Jens Berthel Askou is the new Motherwell manager Credit: Alamy 3 Bryan Gunn had the now manager on trial at Norwich Credit: PA The Canaries happened to be on a pre-season tour of Scotland — where they would play games against Raith Rovers, St Johnstone and Airdrie. Askou scored in the win over Airdrie — but it was an incident in the closed-door victory over Saints that Gunn remembers. He said: 'We'd just got relegated from the Championship and we were offered Jens by his agent so we had him in for the games to have a look at him. 'In the game we played on the training pitch at St Andrews he attacked a clearance and his header must have gone 60 yards back the way it had come. 'That gave us an idea of what he was like. 'He was a central defender and he was tough, uncompromising, competitive and physical. 'I liked what I had seen from Jens and I sat down and had a couple of conversations with him. 'He was quite a steely character — he knew what he wanted. 'For us, he was an easy signing on a free transfer. 'The wages were affordable but I was away from Norwich before we really got the chance to work together. Stuart Kettlewell reveals if he regrets quitting Motherwell in exclusive first interview 'We lost our first game of the season 7-1 to Colchester but he didn't play in it because his work permit hadn't arrived. 'He played in a League Cup tie at Yeovil the following midweek, which we won comfortably, and we stayed down in the West Country because we were playing at Exeter on the Saturday. 'We drew 1-1 there and Jens scored our goal — but by then I was on a train back to Norwich because I'd been sacked on the Friday! 'Paul Lambert came in as the new manager and he brought a few of his own players in. 'Guys like Fraser Forster and Russell Martin joined the club around about that time. 'Jens played a few games but probably not as many as he would have liked to and after a couple of seasons he eventually went back to Denmark. 'Over the years we've kept in touch by text message. 'When I saw he'd started in coaching I'd send him good luck messages and I've probably got a WhatsApp trail for all his moves. 3 Jens Berthel Askou playing for Norwich Credit: Getty 'It's always nice when guys you've maybe helped along the way on their playing or coaching journey get decent jobs. 'It's good to see that he's gone on and worked at very good clubs since he stopped playing — like IFK Gothenburg, Sparta Prague and FC Copenhagen. 'And it's odd that he's ended up in the top division in Scotland as a coach when he started there as a player for Norwich. 'Maybe the fact he was willing to come to us on trial as a player tells you a bit about his character, his willingness to give things a go. 'I was well aware of what had happened with his predecessor at Motherwell and when I saw he'd got the job there on Thursday I sent him a message wishing him well at Fir Park. 'In the message I told him I knew Nick Daws, the Motherwell head of recruitment, and also goalkeeper Aston Oxborough. 'Aston might well have been in the academy at Norwich at the time so it could be that Jens will remember him. 'The agency I work for represents Jack Butland and I'm up in Scotland every now and then for games. 'If I'm at a Rangers versus Motherwell game next season I'll make a point of looking Jens up. 'It's a good career move for him and I wish him all the very best at Motherwell.' Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page

Fans may have to prove migration status at World Cup-linked match
Fans attending the inaugural FIFA World Club Cup match in Miami have been told to carry proof they are in the country legally. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will be at the Hard Rock Stadium where Inter Miami, whose team includes Lionel Messi, will be playing against Egypt's Al Ahly on Saturday. Fear among fans was heightened when CBP said on social media that its officers would be 'suited and booted' at the fixture, before deleting the post. 'They are insisting that attendees bring proof of legal status to the games,' Thomas Kennedy, deputy director of the Florida Immigrant Coalition, told The Telegraph. 'It would be logistically a nightmare to check immigration status as a single person. They could be checking randomly, or it could just be general guidance to tell people to bring their immigration status. 'The problem is of clarity superimposed on the political tension gripping the country. 'This just provokes more tension,' he added. 'I would certainly say that people have to be wary and cautious.' CBP will be at all matches NBC Florida also reported that fans could be asked to prove their immigration status on Saturday. CBP has confirmed it will be at all the matches. ICE declined to comment on its deployment plans. Ostensibly, both organisations will be on hand to provide added security at a major sporting event, as they have in the past. But such is the mistrust of ICE many fans are staying away. 'What I can tell you is there are multiple reports and stats tracking how overseas travel to the United States has already plummeted since the beginning of the year because of the action by the current administration,' Mr Kennedy added. 'And FIFA has had to lower prices for these club World Cup tickets a couple of times.' With more than 70 per cent of the Miami population being Hispanic, the presence of ICE at the inaugural game is particularly sensitive. Tensions heightened Tension was further heightened earlier this week when the US coastguard boarded a boat taking people – including the mayor of Miami Dade – to a World Cup party and checked the immigration status of staff on board. Another potential flashpoint is on Monday when LAFC, one of the leading teams in the USA, whose supporters have been vocal in their opposition to ICE, plays Chelsea in Atlanta. Against the backdrop of the National Guard being called in to quell violent anti-ICE protests in the club's home city of Los Angeles, feelings have been running high. Fans displayed banners calling for ICE's abolition, and, somewhat pointedly, they have been backed by the club, which wrote on social media that it stood 'shoulder to shoulder with all members of our community'. Gianni Infantino, FIFA's president, played down the potential problems at a press conference earlier this week. 'No, I don't have any concerns about anything in the sense that we are very attentive on any security question. Of course, the most important thing for us is to guarantee security for all the fans who come to the games. This is our priority. This is the priority of all the authorities who are here. And we want everyone who comes to the games to pass a good moment.'

Odsonne Edouard to Celtic transfer return given thumbs up but one major stumbling block cited
French Eddy has been deemed surplus to requirements at FA Cup-winning Crystal Palace Scott Allan insists Celtic shouldn't think twice if an opportunity arises to re-sign Odsonne Edouard. Brendan Rodgers has already brought returning heroes Kieran Tierney and Jota back to Parkhead after stints elsewhere. Edouard, 27, flopped on loan at Leicester City and has no future at Crystal Palace as he enters the final year of his deal. The former PSG striker - who swapped Celtic Park for Selhurst Park in a £14million transfer four years ago - was prolific in Glasgow. Rodgers even labelled the Frenchman as one of the best young players he had worked with after shelling out a then-club record £9m to turn his season-long loan into a permanent deal in 2018. And when asked if he should be on Celtic's radar this summer, Allan told Clyde 1 Superscoreboard: "I would, yeah. Fantastic player. It's obviously a position that Celtic will be looking to add to. "I think we might see Daizen Maeda go back out to that wide area, where he was so effective in terms of his pressing and getting up and down the pitch. "He'll be looking to add to his goal tally come next season. I think there's no question that it's an area of the park where Celtic need to strengthen." A potential stumbling block could be Edouard's lucrative salary at the Eagles, something Allan believes could be a deal breaker. The ex-Hoops midfielder said: "I think the problem with the boys that are playing in the Premier League is that there's now the chance to go to the Saudi League where they can earn ridiculous amounts of money. "The Kieran Tierney one is completely different because he's a huge Celtic fan and he's been dying to get back home and probably feels like he's got unfinished business at Celtic. "So it'll be interesting but I do feel that Celtic will be looking to find the next Odsonne Edouard where they can get a tune from them and then make money from them."
