Three held for online extortion in Ghaziabad

Ghaziabad: The Cyber Crime Cell has arrested three persons, including two women, for allegedly operating an pornographic website and extorting money from users.
According to a senior police officer, the arrested individuals include Mohit Kumar, 28, a resident of Vijay Nagar, and two women aged 20 and 24.
The arrests were made following a raid at a local hotel after police received a tip-off.
"On June 11, acting on specific information about an illegal call centre, a police team raided the Mahadev Hotel near Bajaria, under the jurisdiction of Kotwali Police Station, and apprehended all three accused," the officer stated.
During the raid, police recovered two laptops, two mobile phones, a mask, and other objectionable items from the hotel room.
The investigation revealed that Mohit and one of the women had checked into the hotel posing as a couple and were later joined by the second woman. The trio allegedly ran an adult website, where they conducted explicit video calls and chats in exchange for money.
"During interrogation, it was found that the accused created fake profiles of women on adult websites. They would rent hotel rooms, engage in obscene acts over video calls, and entice users into performing similar acts.

All three have been booked under Section 67 of the Information Technology Act for publishing or transmitting obscene material electronically.
Police also named the alleged mastermind of the operation, Anju Tyagi, who is currently absconding. "She used to pay the accused between Rs 20,000 and Rs 25,000 per month for their involvement in these activities," the officer added.

The last rites will be held in Rajkot tomorrow at 5 PM. The Gujarat government has declared a one-day state mourning in honour of the late former chief minister. The confirmation of Rupani's death came after his DNA was matched with remains found at the site of the Air India crash in Ahmedabad. State Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi said the DNA report arrived at 11:10 AM on Sunday. Vijay Rupani, 68, was among the 241 people on board the ill-fated Air India flight AI 171, which crashed on Thursday shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad airport. The London-bound Boeing 787 Dreamliner went down just seconds after takeoff, crashing into a building inside the BJ Medical College campus in Meghaninagar, about a kilometre from the runway. The crash caused a massive fireball that severely damaged a hostel building on the medical college campus, killing several people on the ground, including medical students. So far, 265 bodies have been taken to the civil hospital, although the final death toll has yet to be confirmed. Only one passenger, a British national, survived the tragic accident. Vijay Rupani served as the Chief Minister of Gujarat from August 2016 till September 2021. His death in the tragic accident has brought shock and grief to the state. Three days after a London-bound Air India plane crashed in Ahmedabad, authorities here have so far identified 47 victims through DNA testing and bodies of 24 have been handed over to their families, an official said on Sunday. As many of the bodies were burnt beyond recognition or damaged otherwise, authorities are carrying out DNA tests to establish the identity of victims of the horrific tragedy. "A total of 47 plane crash victims have been identified so far through DNA matching. Of these, bodies of 24 victims have been handed over to the respective families. These deceased were from Rajasthan and different parts of Gujarat," Additional Civil Superintendent Dr Rajnish Patel told reporters. All but one of the 242 passengers and crew on board the Boeing 787-8 (AI171) and another 29 persons, including five MBBS students, on the ground were killed in the plane crash on Thursday. The aircraft crashed into the campus of a medical college in Meghaninagar moments after taking off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport at 1:39pm on Thursday.
