Three Longhorns named to Lott IMPACT Trophy watch list Preseason finalists for Lott IMPACT Trophy watch list revealed
With the start of the college football season quickly approaching, excitement is building for what the Texas Longhorns will accomplish this year. Those expectations continued to build on Wednesday when three Longhorns landed on the Lott IMPACT Trophy watch list. That trio includes Colin Simmons, Anthony Hill Jr., and Michael Taaffe.
Hill is coming off a stellar 2024 campaign in which he led the Longhorns in tackles with 103 and tackles for a loss with 16.5. While Hill continued to prove his value, he also received national recognition for his play. The Texas native was named a semifinalist for the Bednarik and Butkus awards. He also was named the SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Week once.
The talented linebacker got some help from Colin Simmons, who was stellar during his freshman campaign. He appeared in all 16 games, adding nine sacks to his resume. On a Longhorns defense that frustrated offensive coordinators, Simmons recorded 48 tackles and one interception. Due to his play, Simmons won the Shaun Alexander National Freshman of the Year Award.
Rounding out the list is Taaffe, who has become a staple in the Longhorns defense. The former walk-on played in every game last season. He finished second in total tackles with 78 and pass deflections with 10. During his time as a Longhorn, the Austin native has been a model of consistency, appearing in 43 games. He will look to help the Longhorns end their championship drought this season.
Each year, the award is given to the student-athlete who makes an impact on and off the field. While the Longhorns trio have plenty of competition, they have a good chance to add to their trophy cases. The winner of the Lott IMPACT Trophy will be announced in December. It would be no surprise for Simmons, Hill, or Taaffe to hear their names called when the winner is revealed.

Longhorns Softball pitcher Teagan Kavan is in the midst of a stellar playoff run in WCWS
Longhorns Softball pitcher Teagan Kavan is in the midst of a stellar playoff run in WCWS Teagan Kavan is having a remarkable playoff run During the Longhorns softball playoff run they have gotten contributions from many different places. However, few have been better than Teagan Kavan. The Iowa native has led the Longhorns pitching staff while frustrating hitters on a nightly basis. With her leading the way, Texas has been hard to stop. Through her first three games during the Women's College World Series, Kavan has posted a 0.53 ERA and struck out 12 batters. She has only allowed one earned run and has given the Longhorns a chance to win every time she takes the mound. While the talented Sophmore has made headlines, she has also built on her play in the regular season. In her second season as a Longhorn, Kavan set career high in appearances with 40 and strikeouts 224. Although she saw a massive increase in innings, the Longhorns righty was up to the challenge and took her game to a new level. That has continued in the playoffs. The Longhorns star will get to build on her success on Wednesday when Texas takes on Texas Tech. Again, She will be relied on heavily as Texas looks to set the tone in the first game of the series. With Kavan leading the way, Texas has a very good chance of pulling that off. With the Longhorns only a few wins from a title, Kavan is close to reaching a significant milestone. She has also helped make history, as this season marks the first time in program history that the Longhorns have played for a national championship in back-to-back seasons. Kavan has been a big part of the pitching staff both times. For the Longhorns, her dominant play has been a welcome sign when it is needed most. Follow us on X (formerly Twitter) at @LonghornsWire.

NBA Insider Floats Knicks Blockbuster Trade for Two-Time MVP After East Finals Loss
NBA Insider Floats Knicks Blockbuster Trade for Two-Time MVP After East Finals Loss originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The New York Knicks were just two wins away from their first NBA Finals appearance in 26 years. Unfortunately for this storied franchise and its passionate fans, they still came up short. Advertisement The Indiana Pacers came out on top in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference finals on Saturday, 125-108, thereby marking the end of what ultimately turned out to be a disappointing season for the Knicks. It will be a very intriguing offseason for this franchise as the front office decides whether or not they should come back next year with the same core or if it's time to shake things up. NBA insider Bill Simmons shared his thoughts on the Knicks' current dilemma, and the renowned league guru floated the idea of New York going all in on Giannis Antetokounmpo. There has been a lot of talk about Antetokounmpo's future with the Bucks as the two-time NBA MVP is linked to a potential move away from Milwaukee this summer. Simmons floated a hypothetical trade scenario wherein the Knicks land Antetokounmpo in a blockbuster three-team deal. Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo (34) controls the ball against New York Knicks forward OG Anunoby (8).Brad Penner-Imagn Images According to Simmons, the San Antonio Spurs will need to be the third team in this landscape-shifting trade. The Spurs would get either OG Anunoby or Mikal Bridges from the Knicks. Advertisement The Bucks, on the other hand, will receive Devin Vassell and multiple first-round picks from San Antonio. Milwaukee will also swap its cornerstone superstar with the Knicks for Karl-Anthony Towns. The big prize for New York is Antetokounmpo, who would be under contract through 2028. Simmons added, though, that the Knicks would also need to take on "a couple of contracts" as part of the deal, naming Pat Connaughton and Kyle Kuzma as additional pieces in the hypothetical trade. There's no denying that a trade of this magnitude would send shockwaves across the league. The Knicks will need to part ways with a number of significant assets, but they get the opportunity to pair Antetokounmpo with Jalen Brunson, making them a legitimate threat to the title for the next several years. Advertisement Simmons, however, added one major caveat. "I don't think this will happen because if I'm Milwaukee, I just wouldn't do it," he predicted. "I'd rather keep Giannis, take him into February (for the trade deadline). "And if we have to trade him then, I just feel like I have more leverage at that point. I wouldn't do it. I would not trade Giannis."
