Crypto-bro ‘kidnappers' ordered thousands of dollars of fancy food a day — and sometimes couldn't even be bothered to bring it inside

New York Post2 days ago

Accused kidnappers William Duplessie and John Woeltz lived a party-bro lifestyle at the Soho townhouse where they allegedly tortured an Italian tourist — sometimes ordering so much fancy food they didn't even bother to bring it inside.
'Will and John would order about $1,500, $2,000 in food every day, literally from the best restaurants. They would get delivery food from Nobu, Cipriani, Blue Ribbon, you name it,' one visitor to the house told The Post Wednesday. 'There was one time I came in and it was the funniest thing — they had $600 of Blue Ribbon [delivery] sitting outside that nobody even got.'
Duplessie, 33, and his 37-year-old pal Woeltz — who reportedly calls himself the 'Crypto King of Kentucky' and has boasted of holding $100 million in digital currency — have been arrested on charges including the kidnapping and assault of Michael Valentino Teofrasto Carturan.

The visitor to Woeltz's rented townhouse described a lavish scene at the property, where police reportedly found Polaroid photos of Carturan with a gun to his head, as well as firearms and ammunition, night vision goggles, a ballistic vest and traces of blood.
'They had every type of liquor, thousand dollar bottles of wine, $20K of liquor including Pappy Van Winkle,' said the visitor. 'They were always smoking weed at the house' — to the point that they 'set off the smoke detector.'
The scene lined up with one crypto insider's description of Duplessie, who is from Miami but also said to have ties to Switzerland.

He turned himself in Tuesday after reportedly partying hard in the Hamptons over Memorial Day weekend, according to sources.
'I saw him at parties. He was quite the partier,' said the insider, who recalled 'douchey' Duplessie's days in Miami, including at the Fontainebleu Hotel. 'He struck me as a little 'Wolf of Wall Street,' I think would be the right way to phrase it. Like if you gave a frat guy $100 million.

'He drank a lot. He was hitting on girls a lot, sometimes obnoxiously and in a rude sense.'

According to TMZ, the pair 'partied like every day was their last.' And a source previously told The Post that the Soho townhouse, which Woeltz was allegedly renting for roughly $30,000- to $40,000-a-month, saw plenty of people coming in and out — including some well-known socialites.

Duplessie and Woeltz are also pictured partying at The Box, an exclusive erotic nightclub in Manhattan, where they would reportedly drop up to $100,000 in a single night before inviting girls back to the Prince Street townhouse.

Another alleged guest was Charlie Zakkour — a club kid turned crypto trader who is one of the stars of a new Bravo reality show.
A video from Woeltz's arrest Friday shows a blond man looking concerned as cops led Carturan away from the Soho townhouse. Page Six reported the man is Zakkour, whose show, 'Next Gen NYC,' premieres June 3.
The series, according to Bravo's website, 'follows a tangled web of friends raised in the spotlight — or at least close enough for good lighting — as they stumble into adulthood one brunch, breakup and spontaneous decision at a time.'

The cast includes Gia Giudice, whose mom, Teresa Giudice, is a longtime fixture on 'The Real Housewives of New Jersey'; Ariana Biermann, daughter of 'The Real Housewives of Atlanta' star Kim Zolciak-Biermann; Ava Dash, the daughter of Roc-A-Fella Records co-founder Damon Dash and fashion designer Rachel Roy; and Riley Burruss, whose mom, Kandi Burruss, formerly of 'The Real Housewives of Atlanta.'
While Zakkour isn't a reality show nepo baby, he does come from enormous privilege. Mom Elizabeth Williams is an art collector in Palm Beach and dad Anwar Zakkour, who has an address in Manhattan, is a private investor who has held high-profile roles at JP Morgan, CitiBank and Bank of America Merrill Lynch where he was the Global ead of Technology, Media and Telecommunications Investment Banking.

Page Six previously reported that Zakkour, who is not implicated in the alleged crimes, would sometimes 'crash' at Woeltz's luxurious Prince Street pad.
On Wednesday, a source said that Zakkour is known as the 'Chuck Bass' of 'Next Gen NYC' — a reference to Ed Westwick's bad-boy character from 'Gossip Girl.'
'We don't see him at his job on the show. He's just a kid making it in Manhattan like the other kids,' the source said, adding that filming 'has been done for a long time' and 'I don't think anyone [on the show] has spoken to him' since it wrapped.

Another source told The Post that Zakkour knew the accused through the crypto world.
The crypto insider said that Duplessie 'was known, at least, to be a successful person in the space' — but admitted that 'a lot of crypto people are a little obnoxious, and I think [Duplessie] had that reputation.'

Russell Brand Gets Trial Date After Entering His Plea For Rape Charges

Russell Brand's trial for rape and assault charges is set to commence by 2026! The comedian's second half for next year is already booked as his trial date is now set to June 2026 following his not-guilty plea concerning his ongoing sexual assault lawsuit. Russell Brand was accused of several incidents of sexual assault, which allegedly occurred between 1999 and 2024, involving four women. Following the actor's not-guilty plea deal today, Friday, at a London Court, he will now attend a pre-trial review on May 20, 2026, with respect to his actual trial scheduled for June of the same year. On Friday morning, Brand arrived at court dressed in a dark gray suit and a striped button-down shirt, which he wore unbuttoned to showcase his chest adorned with layered silver necklaces. He completed his look with aviator sunglasses, maintaining a serious demeanor as he prepared to enter his plea. Per TMZ, Brand's conditional bail still stands, as confirmed by the presiding judge. The British celebrity had initially emphasized his innocence when the charges trickled in last month. The consequences of Brand's alleged actions did not come in small measures, especially in his professional life. As noted by The Blast, his scheduled three-day wellness festival billed for July was quietly canceled. The festival was reportedly centered on camping, spirituality, healthy living, and environmental discussions. Hundreds of tickets had already been sold, with prices reaching up to £210, while some early buyers snagged theirs for £160. However, following the accusations and eventual charges, reports show that the event has been quietly canceled, with the ticket links now no longer operational. A cancellation notice on one of the ticketing platforms advised ticket purchasers to reach out via phone or email for further details. The podcaster, while reacting to the controversial charges against him, insisted that his sexual relations have always been consensual. In his Instagram video statement following the allegations, the podcaster expressed a belief that society is fortunate to live in a time when skepticism toward the British government is on the rise. He further suggested that the law has become a weapon used against individuals and that knowledge is not exclusive to him. Reflecting on his past, he described himself as a "fool," a "drug and sex addict," and an "imbecile." However, he firmly denied the label of "rapist," maintaining that he has never participated in any non-consensual activity. Brand's accusers all shared different accounts of their experience with him. The first plaintiff accused him of raping her in a hotel room during a British Labour Party conference in 1999, while another alleged that he orally raped her in a bathroom stall at a party. Additionally, a third woman claimed that he kissed her without consent and forcefully touched her breast and buttocks. In an April episode of his podcast, shortly before his rape charges became official, Brand reflected on his marriage to Katy Perry, discussing the nuances of their relationship. Brand shared intimate details about the dynamics of their marriage, giving listeners a glimpse into that chapter of his life. "What can I tell you is, when I was married to Katy Perry, she's like, not entirely normal, because she's an extraordinary, massive star — but she's not weird or off-key and wasn't involved in anything nefarious as far as I could tell," he shared. Brand noted that some marriages do not work due to absolutely "normal human reason," which does not diminish his respect for the pop star in any way. He also commented on their opposing political ideologies, which he described as a normal occurrence, even for married couples. In his words: "I obviously disagree with [Perry's] political views," Brand continued. "But I probably disagree with some of my wife's political views, my beloved wife, Laura Brand's political views. So, you know, you always disagree with people, don't ya?" The estranged couple tied the knot in 2010 and headed for divorce the following year, citing irreconcilable differences, per US Weekly. Six years after his divorce from Perry, Brand married Laura Gallacher in 2017. The couple was introduced by her sister, Kirsty, who is a star at Sky Sports. The comedian had previously told Daily Mail that Laura, who was 19 when they met, loves him for who he truly is rather than his fame. However, their relationship faced challenges, particularly from Laura's father, golf legend Bernard Gallacher, who disapproved of the significant age difference between them. A family friend revealed that Bernard even urged Laura to end the relationship due to his concerns. They eventually reconnected in 2015, four years after Brand's divorce, and immediately moved in together. Since their wedding in 2017, Brand and Gallacher have welcomed three children. Will Russell Brand be declared innocent or guilty at the end of his trial?

Woman drained $20K from bank account and stopped answering family — all under a scammer's orders

After pulling $20,000 from her bank account, a 73-year-old Massachusetts woman stopped returning her family's calls. Police found her at a Bitcoin ATM — still on the phone with the scammer who sent her there. Around 2 p.m. on Thursday, family members went to the Lakeville Police Department, concerned that another family member was being scammed. The 73-year-old Lakeville woman had withdrawn $20,000 in cash from her bank account and was not answering phone calls. The scammer told the woman her computer was infected with a virus. The only way to protect her money, the scammer claimed, was to withdraw it and deposit it into a Bitcoin ATM. The scammer also told her not to answer any phone calls, including those from family members. She did as she was told. Police determined she was likely headed to Raynham and contacted the Raynham Police Department to be on the lookout. Raynham Police officers began checking local Bitcoin ATM locations. Soon they found the car at Coletti's Market on North Main Street. Police found the woman while she was still on the phone with the scammer. Luckily, police said, they were able to stop the woman in time. 'This case is a powerful reminder of how sophisticated and manipulative these scams have become,' said Lakeville Chief Matthew Perkins. 'Thanks to fast detective work, interagency cooperation — including the quick response from Raynham Police — and vigilant family, we were able to stop this in time. If not for those combined efforts, the victim could have lost a significant amount of money.' The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) warns people that 'no legitimate business is going to demand you send cryptocurrency in advance.' 'That's always a scam,' the FTC wrote. Scams can also include love interests, seemingly legitimate businesses or blackmail. 'Don't pay anyone who contacts you unexpectedly, demanding payment with cryptocurrency,' the FTC wrote. Authorities make disturbing discovery after raiding hundreds of homes driving up utility bills: 'Posing a direct threat to public safety'

Kuwaiti authorities have begun to crack down on unauthorized crypto mining, and a recent raid in the southern Al-Wafrah region led to a 55% drop in local power use within a week, according to Reuters. The enforcement efforts come as the oil-rich nation faces mounting blackouts and extreme pressure on its electrical grid. While crypto trading itself is banned in Kuwait, mining has not been explicitly outlawed, per the report. This is a loophole that miners exploited. Officials say they raided nearly 100 homes under suspicion of mining crypto, and some were using more than 20 times the energy of a typical Kuwaiti household. The country's worsening energy crisis is driven by rapid population growth, rising temperatures, and delayed maintenance at power plants, per Reuters. With summer heat spiking demand for cooling systems, authorities say crypto mining is pushing the grid to its limits. "It only takes a very small share of the total bitcoin mining network to have a significant impact on the relatively small total electricity consumption of Kuwait," Digiconomist founder Alex de Vries-Gai told Reuters. Kuwait's interior ministry said crypto mining constitutes an "unlawful exploitation of electrical power" that "may cause outages affecting residential, commercial and service areas, posing a direct threat to public safety." The environmental cost of crypto can also be steep. A single Bitcoin transaction uses more than 1,189 kilowatt-hours of electricity — about as much as the average U.S. household in 41 days, according to Digiconomist. Globally, over 65% of crypto mining runs on dirty fuels, according to U.N. researchers. While cleaner sources may make up more of the energy mix since the time of the 2023 report, it is clear that crypto is adding significant volumes of heat-trapping pollution into the atmosphere and worsening air quality as a result. Even when power comes from renewables, the grid can experience strain if there's not enough generated to support energy-intensive operations. Because of this, some companies are focused on developing cryptocurrencies that require less power. Online internet users supported the crackdown in Kuwait.
