citizen outreach campaign
at Children's Traffic Park, Dharampeth.
The Earth Day is the largest civic observance worldwide, celebrated in 195 countries and involving over one billion people annually.
This year's Earth Day theme, "Our Power, Our Planet," emphasises the collective role of individuals and communities in protecting the environment. Green Vigil Foundation volunteers engaged citizens through colourful and informative placards, promoting renewable energy adoption,
green living practices
, water conservation, rejection of single-use plastics, and efforts to reduce carbon footprints. During the campaign, 500 citizens pledged to embrace green living practices.
Karuna Singh, regional director, Asia, EarthDay.org, lauded the efforts of NMC and Green Vigil for their proactive citizen engagement and commitment to promoting sustainable lifestyles.

1 2 Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) and Green Vigil Foundation celebrated World Environment Day by conducting public awareness campaigns at World Trade Centre, Sitabuldi and Sitabuldi Market on this year's theme – 'Beat Plastic Pollution'. During the campaign, members of Green Vigil Foundation and NMC team interacted with citizens, shopkeepers, street vendors on ill effects of usage of single use plastic (SUP), eradication of SUP, adopting circular economy, urgency of adopting green living practices and environment friendly lifestyles. The message was also conveyed through various posters and placards focusing on phasing out of SUP and adopting sustainable options with change in lifestyles and habits. Surbhi Jaiswal, team lead, Green Vigil explained, plastic is non bio-degradable, hence , remains in nature for years, plastic carry bags are choking our sewerage system, rivers and oceans are polluted with huge deposition of microplastic, leaving waste food in plastic carry bags are causing death to cattle. Prominently present during the campaign were Rajesh Bhagat, deputy commissioner, NMC, Dr Ganjendra Mahalle, chief sanitary officer, NMC, Manish Soni, PRO NMC, Dhananjay Jadhav, assistant commissioner, NMC, Anup Khandelwal, Vilas Uttarwar , Kisan Agarwal and others. NMC launches ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0'

Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) launched a large-scale tree plantation drive titled 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0' to promote environmental conservation on the occasion of on Thursday. Saplings were also planted at all 10 zone offices, schools, parks, fire stations, urban primary health centres, and other public places. Information, education and communication team of the NMC raised awareness about environmental conservation among drivers at Samvidhan Square using placards. The civic body also took out an awareness rally to pledge commitment to a plastic-free environment. The rally, which commenced in the presence of NMC officials and NGO Green Vigil, received enthusiastic response from citizens. During the rally, eco-friendly cloth bags were distributed amid chanting of slogans urging people to avoid using plastic bags. Later, municipal commissioner Abhijeet Chaudhari unveiled a sculpture 'Earth', highlighting the threat posed by plastic to our planet, near Mahesh Chowk, Traffic Park, through a collaboration between the NMC and a private cable network. Notably, this sculpture is crafted from 'discarded plastic bottles'. The bottle-shaped sculpture serves as a reminder to citizens of the need to be vigilant against the dangers posed by plastic to Earth.

Plantation drive, street play at Maharajbagh Zoo on World Environment Day

1 2 Nagpur: A tree plantation drive and a street play were held at Maharajbagh Zoo to mark World Environment Day on Thursday. The event was jointly organised by the Centre for Sustainable Development NGO and Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC). The street play effectively conveyed messages about waste segregation (wet and dry), limited use of plastic, and measures to prevent air pollution. The play emphasised the strong message: "If we want to save the environment, we must start from our own doorstep." The slogan 'Plant trees, save trees' was instilled in the minds of the audience. The programme was chaired by Dr Abhijit Motghare, veterinary officer, Maharajbagh Zoo, Nagpur, while Dr Bhavna Wankhede, from the Animal Husbandry and Dairy Department, Agricultural College, Nagpur, attended as the chief guest. Other notable attendees included Darwade, curator, Maharajbagh Zoo, Nagpur, and Neha Thakur, head of the Science Department, Kamla Nehru College, Nagpur. The event was anchored by Prajakta Tandale, Education Officer/Biologist, Maharajbagh Zoo, Nagpur, and Mahesh Pandey, Livestock Supervisor, expressed gratitude to all performers and the audience. The programme was conducted under the guidance of SS Bawaskar, In-Charge Officer, Maharajbagh Zoo, Nagpur. The event received a tremendous response from the public, successfully achieving the goal of raising environmental awareness.
