Not a physical move but a change of mindset, values, says Religious Affairs Minister in Maal Hijrah speech
The Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) said this in his opening speech during the Ma'al Hijrah celebration at the Malaysia International Trade and Convention Centre (Mitec) here Friday (June 27) officiated by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia.
"Today, hijrah is no longer physical but a transformation of values and mindset.
"We are called to migrate from passivity to proactivity, from dependency to self-determination.
"This is the true meaning of hijrah in building a Madani nation. Therefore, let us, as agents of change, embrace knowledge, uphold values, prioritise unity, and respect differences.
"This year, the Ma'al Hijrah celebration carries the theme 'Building a Madani Ummah', a vision that deeply aligns with the spirit of the Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) hijrah.
"This theme calls upon us to revive the role of the ummah (community) as agents of mercy, justice, and progress – to build a society rooted in values and anchored in faith," said Mohd Na'im.
He further stressed the need for respect and tolerance by Muslims in a multiracial and multi-religious country.
"We must emulate the solidarity between the Muhajirin (migrants) and the Ansar (residents of Madinah) during the Prophet's time, which was built on faith, not lineage.
"This was further strengthened by the introduction of the Constitution of Madinah, a foundation for a peaceful and just multi-ethnic society based on faith and brotherhood (ukhuwwah)," said Mohd Na'im.

Yayasan Taqwa-MAIWP Channels RM50,000 To Upgrade Surau At-Taqwa In Janda Baik
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 16 (Bernama) -- Yayasan Taqwa of the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) has channelled RM50,000 to upgrade Surau At-Taqwa in Kampung Chemperoh, Janda Baik, Pahang. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar said the assistance would be used for repair works at the surau for the villagers' benefit. 'I personally inspected the surau and took note of the needs that will be addressed with this fund. 'Hopefully, the upgrades will make the surau more comfortable and conducive, while upholding the syiar of Islam in this village,' he said in a statement today. Earlier, he presented a mock cheque to the surau management. Mohd Naim also visited Ma'ahad An-Noer, a centre for higher Islamic and Al-Quran studies founded by Syeikh Muhammad Nuruddin Marbu Al-Banjari Al-Makki. He said the ma'ahad played a key role in producing Islamic scholars and huffaz (Quran memorisers), who are valuable assets to the ummah. In support of this noble effort, Mohd Naim also approved immediate assistance of RM20,000 to help implement the educational programmes and activities planned by the ma'ahad. 'It is hoped that this contribution will strengthen the role of Ma'ahad An-Noer in educating the younger generation in religious knowledge, fostering appreciation of the Quran, and developing leadership based on Islamic values.

Defence ministry expands G2G MoUs to curb middlemen in asset procurement
KUALA LUMPUR: The Defence Ministry is enhancing international cooperation through Government-to-Government (G2G) Memorandums of Understanding for defence procurement. Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin stated this approach eliminates intermediaries in acquiring national defence assets. 'The MADANI government remains consistent in its efforts to improve governance and ensure transparency, including in purchases of national defence assets,' he said. His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, earlier warned against repeating past procurement errors during Rejimen Gerak Khas' 60th anniversary parade in Mersing. The monarch stressed evaluations must prioritise market prices and armed forces' needs over third-party recommendations. Mohamed Khaled affirmed the ministry's commitment to accountability and integrity in defence acquisitions. Internal policies are being tightened to enforce transparency and ethical compliance in procurement processes. New proposals will involve the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) to assess suitability, safety, and technological relevance. 'Any procurement of defence assets is also made based on MAF requirements or user-driven,' he clarified.
