Nico Raskin earns swooning review as Rangers mate showered in love amid £5m transfer exit push

The 24-year-old capped off the best season of his career with a game-changing cameo in the 4-3 win over Wales
Beaming Rudi Garcia has waxed lyrical about game-changing Nico Raskin after the Rangers star once again made a telling impact for his national team.
The 24-year-old capped off the best season of his career with a game-changing cameo in the 4-3 win over Wales as he helped re-address the balance after the Red Devils coughed up a 3-0 lead in Brussels.

Raskin was a surprise omission from the starting XI but made the most of his 15-minute cameo with the game all square before Kevin De Bruyne broke Welsh hearts.

The Ibrox star – expected to garner serious transfer interest this summer with two years left on his deal – once again received a glowing appraisal from Garcia.
The Belgium boss, speaking on a raft of changes during the game, said: "It didn't prove me right at first, but it was better afterwards. The two periods of change were important, by the way (Nicolas Raskin then Alexis Saelemaekers). It's positive because the players proved they could move forward.
"Nicolas Raskin's entry (in place of Dodi Lukebakio, who had already come on) was important because we needed fighters on the pitch. Jeremy Doku? He was the catalyst. He's reached a high level in the last two matches."
And even when saluting national icon De Bruyne, Garcia couldn't help but once again lavish praise on Raskin and his telling impact in the closing stages of a vital World Cup qualifying win.
He added: "It's symbolic Kevin De Bruyne ultimately scored the fourth. Nicolas Raskin 's return helped us get back in control of the game. He stabilised the team, and Alexis Saelemaekers, who can do a bit of everything, helped us finish well."
Meanwhile, Cyriel Dessers parked frenzied speculation surrounding his own future as he married sweetheart Rosalie de Ruysscher in Italy over the weekend.
That would be a £500k profit on the Nigeria international under Michael Beale after he was signed from Cremonese in the summer of 2023.

Another Ruben Amorim target rejects Man Utd move as Viktor Gyokeres rift grows

Manchester United's transfer plans are in disarray after another of Ruben Amorim's targets followed Liam Delap in turning down a move to Old Trafford this summer Manchester United's summer transfer window has entered something of a holding pattern after missing out on Liam Delap. The Ipswich Town star had been their top target as they look to strengthen their options at striker. But the Englishman instead decided to join Chelsea, forcing the Red Devils to explore alternative options. One of those options is Viktor Gyokeres, though negotiations with Sporting Lisbon are proving to be more difficult than expected. ‌ Talk around the Swedish star has cooled as the window has progressed, with the player himself growing increasingly frustrated. Another alternative is Victor Osimhen, who had appeared set to join Galatasaray. ‌ But there still appears to be time for United to steal in and sign the Nigerian international. One move certainly not happening is one that would have taken Gianluigi Donnarumma to Old Trafford. Donnarumma's future at Paris Saint-Germain had appeared uncertain, attracting the Red Devils' attention. Here, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest Manchester United transfer news. Donnarumma rejects move Paris Saint-Germain star Gianluigi Donnarumma has insisted he has no intention of leaving the French capital this summer. The Italian is entering the final year of his contract at the Parc des Princes. That had attracted the attention of United, who are looking to replace flop Andre Onana. But Donnarumma has now made it clear he wants to stay in Paris and is confident negotiations over a new contract will progress quickly. "My priority is to stay at PSG, I don't think there will be any problems in the negotiations," Donnarumma told Sky Sports Italia after his country defeated Moldova on Monday night. "We're a great team." Osimhen 'dreams' of United ‌ Victor Osimhen has emerged once again as a potential option for Manchester United as they search for a new striker. Napoli are keen to sell the Nigerian international this summer, with his contract entering its final year. The Serie A side are demanding a fee of £63million, putting off his suitors so far. Osimhen has already rejected a move to Al-Hilal and Gazzetta dello Sports now claim that he is instead 'dreaming' of playing in the Premier League. Osimhen's rejection of Al-Hilal has put United on red alert, with the Red Devils exploring a swap deal. Alejandro Garnacho is one potential option, while Joshua Zirkzee has also been floated as a potential makeweight. ‌ Gyokeres rift grows Viktor Gyokeres' frustration with Sporting Lisbon is growing, with the Portuguese side continuing to block a transfer deal. Gyokeres is a target for several sides, including United, after another stunning season for Sporting. But the Portuguese champions do not want to let him leave easily, prompting a rift to form. According to A Bola, Sporting agreed last summer that Gyokeres could leave for £53m this year. They have upped their asking price to £67m though, creating a 'rift' between the player and the club. Gyokeres is said to have made it clear to Sporting's chiefs that he wants to leave this summer, with the 27-year-old insisting he feels ready to make a leap up a level. Part one complete as Popovic's Australia lock up World Cup berth

June 11 (Reuters) - Tony Popovic was already thinking about the improvements Australia needed to make for next year's World Cup finals soon after they sealed automatic qualification with a gritty 2-1 win in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday. Popovic took over as coach last September after the Socceroos made a poor start to the third round of Asian qualifying and has overseen five wins and three draws to book a ticket to North America. "Very, very satisfying right now, I'm sure it'll sink in as the days go by," he said shortly after the final whistle at Jeddah's King Abdullah Sports City. "It's been a very intense period since I've joined and I've loved it so far. We've done the first part, qualifying automatically, and now the next part is to be bigger and better for the World Cup." After beating Group C winners Japan 1-0 with a late goal in Perth last week, the Socceroos only needed to avoid a 5-0 loss to the Saudis to take their place in the finals for a sixth straight edition. They got the job done despite going a goal down in front of a hostile crowd, watching a Saudi player have a red card rescinded by VAR, and conceding a late penalty. Goalkeeper Mat Ryan, who was winning his 100th cap, saved the penalty to ensure that goals from Connor Metcalfe and Mitch Duke either side of halftime would give Australia all three points. "To do it here in this atmosphere, you've got to deal with the weather as well, and it's not easy to show that character resilience and then quality, to come back and actually take the lead and win the game," said Popovic. "For Matty Ryan, his career speaks for itself and there's a lot more for him to achieve ... but it's a day he'll never forget." Former centre half Popovic was a member of the Australia squad that reached the last 16 of the World Cup for the first time in 2006, a feat matched by Graham Arnold's team in Qatar three years ago. The 2006 squad had flair as well as the famed Australian resilience, and the task for Popovic over the next year is to build a team that can play a bit as well as fight. "We've built a good foundation now, and we want to really get better, get better kick on and try and do something special the World Cup," he said. "We need to play games to keep improving, giving other players that deserve it an opportunity and then we want to be a squad that's much better than what we are now. I think that's the expectation we should have."

England ‘not good enough' but won't panic

Three days on from an underwhelming 1-0 World Cup qualifying win over Andorra, Thomas Tuchel's side were again booed off by fans. Goals from Ismaila Sarr, Habib Diarra and Cheikh Sabaly inflicted England's first defeat to an African nation following Kane's early opener at the City Ground in Nottingham. 'Again, not really good enough,' Kane told ITV Sport. 'We had again moments; just with and without the ball we aren't quite clicking, aren't quite finding the right passes, finding the right tempo. 'One v one, we're losing duels, we're losing just that aggressive nature that we've had and we got punished, we're playing against a good side. We just weren't good enough today. 'We're not going to panic. But for sure we know we need to do better.' Defeat for the #ThreeLions against Senegal in Nottingham. — England (@England) June 10, 2025 England thought they had levelled late on through Jude Bellingham but his effort was ruled out on review for an adjudged handball by Levi Colwill. 'If you know the rules, it's not handball,' said Kane. 'It obviously puts us back in the game at 2-2 and maybe we go on and win the game so it is quite a big moment. 'But that's something to discuss with them (the match officials) afterwards.' Defeat for England was a first in four matches since the appointment of manager Tuchel. The German coach, who was unhappy with the decision of French referee Stephanie Frappart to disallow Bellingham's effort, said: 'Of course, a disappointing result, not sure if we did not maybe deserve a little bit more result-wise. 'But I felt again we were a little bit frozen, not active enough for a long time of the match. '(We) defended quite well for a long period in the first half, then our best period came when we were 2-1 down. 'We conceded the first two goals, very easy goals that we need to defend better. 'The reaction was good after we were down. I felt suddenly we were more active, more free, more fluid, more aggressive towards the opponent's goal. 'We had big chances to equalise, we 'equalised' (Bellingham's disallowed effort) and couldn't get the last one.'
