Patriots Could Be Thin At Tight End For Upcoming Trip To Tight End
The Patriots dominated in their preseason opener on Friday night, and then immediately went back out on the practice field on Sunday. The team had a strong day of practice again on Monday, and will now have a travel day on Tuesday as they head to Minnesota. The Patriots and Vikings will practice together on Wednesday and Thursday before playing the second preseason game on Saturday. Unfortunately, there might be some bad injury news for the Patriots after Monday's practice. Starting tight end Hunter Henry came up with an undisclosed injury during Sunday's practice and was held out on Monday. As a result, ESPN's Mike Reiss reported that Henry's availability for the Minnesota trip could be in question. With Henry not at practice, Austin Hooper took over the starter reps at tight end. It's not known what Henry's injury is, but it's not expected to be serious. Still, the veteran missing any time would be a big loss for the Patriots, especially considering the chemistry that has developed between Henry and Drake Maye this summer. If Henry can't take the field in Minnesota, it will be interesting to see how the backup tight ends handle things. Of course, Hooper is a lock to make the team and will see plenty of snaps in the regular season. The third tight end spot is much more up in the air, though, with Gee Scott Jr., Jack Westover, C.J. Dippre, and Jaheim Bell fighting for snaps. In the preseason opener, Bell was the only one of these depth tight ends to catch a pass, but Westover saw the field as a fullback. Josh McDaniels likes to utilize a fullback, and with no true fullback rostered, Westover could have the edge due to his ability to play either position. Report: Dana White Already Walking Back Claim UFC PPV Model Dies in 2026
While fans thought that the days of paying for UFC pay-per-views would end starting in 2026, it seems that future PPVs are still being considered by company boss Dana White. On Monday, the UFC dropped some huge news on fans with the reveal of their new television home. Starting next year, UFC Fight Night cards and PPV events will no longer air on ESPN platforms. Instead, their content is heading to Paramount+ and CBS in a seven-year deal reportedly worth close to $8 billion. What makes the move so momentous for fight fans, however, is the claims by CEO Dana White and the company that fans would no longer have to pay an extra $79.99 to watch PPV events in 2026. They would come free of charge with a Paramount+ membership. Well, not so fast, according to New York Post MMA reporter Erich Richter. 'UFC President Dana White tells me that the door is open for PPV sales in the UFC during this CBS deal,' Richter wrote on X. 'White tells me that an elusive 14th event could absolutely be put on PPV. 'Anything is possible. And you could do a one-off pay-per-view. I am going to be on pay-per-view this Saturday. Pay-Per-View is not dead,'' White told the Post. The idea of the UFC's PPV model being dead was a major angle pushed by the company in their statements regarding the news. It is not a great look that they are going back on that idea less than 24 hours after announcing the switch to Paramount+. The bright side is that it may just be one rare, mega event per year. Instead of one every single month. Joe Rogan on UFC's Paramount deal: 'Sport is going to go f*cking hypernova'
Joe Rogan sees the UFC's deal with Paramount helping the sport grow exponentially. This week, the UFC signed a massive seven-year, $7.7. billion U.S. broadcasting rights deal exclusively with Paramount that will bring all 43 annual events to streaming on Paramount+, including select "marquee" events that will simulcast on Paramount's flagship network, CBS. With fans no longer having to pay for monthly pay-per-view events, Rogan thinks the viewership numbers will inevitably increase. "Through the roof," Rogan said in a recent episode of his "Joe Rogan Experience" podcast. "And it's a super smart move for Paramount. What a great move to not just have the UFC for seven years, but have it for free. How much does it cost a month? Let's say it's 10 bucks. That's crazy. That's a $120 a year, you could watch every UFC pay-per-view? Two UFC pay-per-views is, like, 140 bucks, right? Isn't it? Aren't they, like, $70? So you get all of them. Everything's free? That's incredible. This sport is going to go f*cking hypernova." Rogan, who Dana White confirmed will be sticking around, hopes the UFC doesn't sever its relationship with ESPN as he still sees value in having some aspects broadcasted there. "By the way, ESPN has everything, too. It's great. I'm kind of bummed out, and I hope they don't lose the relationship that they had with ESPN with all their MMA shows," Rogan said. "I hope they don't go, like, 'F*ck them, they went to Paramount.' I hope it's a mutually beneficial thing, like the UFC at least does some content still on ESPN. "Because I think that's also a big factor in pulling people from casual viewers that watch other sports that might occasionally watch a UFC fight and then they see, like, Dustin Poirier vs. Max Holloway and they're like, 'Holy sh*t,' and then they're hooked. Having that coverage on 'SportsCenter,' that sh*t's huge. Having those post-fight shows on ESPN+, that sh*t is huge for the real dorks like me. That's huge."
