Giants activate RHP Justin Verlander off IL to start vs. Guardians
June 18 - San Francisco Giants right-hander Justin Verlander has been activated from the 15-day injured list and will take the mound on Wednesday night in a start against the Cleveland Guardians.
Verlander, 42, has been on the 15-day injured list due to right pectoral soreness. He had velocity and command issues during a start against the Oakland Athletics on May 18 and experienced further problems during a throwing session three days later before being placed on the IL.
Verlander is winless in 10 starts this season, his first with the Giants. He is 0-3 with a 4.33 ERA, 41 strikeouts and 21 walks in 52 innings.
The three-time American League Cy Young Award winner and 2011 AL MVP is in his 20th big league season. A nine-time All-Star, Verlander is 262-150 with a 3.31 ERA in 536 career starts.
The Giants also activated catcher Patrick Bailey (neck) off the 10-day IL. Bailey is batting just .185 with one homer and 16 RBIs in 56 games.
Bailey, 26, was the National League Gold Glove winner at catcher last season -- his third in the majors.
To make room on the roster, San Francisco optioned catcher Logan Porter and right-hander Tristan Beck to Triple-A Sacramento. Porter, 29, was 1-for-7 in four games with the Giants and Beck, who turns 29 on Tuesday, was 1-0 with a 4.50 ERA in six relief appearances.

Earlier this month it emerged Edey could miss the start of the 2025-26 NBA season after he underwent surgery on his left ankle. Edey needed the procedure to repair and restabilize his ankle after spraining it again during offseason training. The Grizzlies said the 7-foot-3 Canadian would be evaluated again in four months, which is less than two weeks before the 2025-26 season opens October 21. The two-time national player of the year at Purdue missed 12 games early in the season because of a sprained left ankle. He went on to play in 66 games, making 55 starts, and averaged 9.2 points and a rookie-leading 8.3 rebounds. He was voted to the All-Rookie first team.

NFL sideline reporter Laura Okmin has announced she is leaving Fox. Okmin has become one of the most recognizable faces on the sidelines of NFL games after two decades with the network. She told Front Office Sports on Wednesday that she wasn't forced out by Fox, but rather rejected their offer of a new contract. Okmin said: 'They sent me the contract. I printed it out. I sat there. After working on the sidelines for such a long time, she now wants to switch her focus to her new passion of guiding the next generation of female reporters. 'Honestly, it's a tough job having to justify your job for 20 years. Having to fight for your job and having to justify it,' she added. 'It feels like there's a bit of dog years with that job.'
