Two men charged in Southern Pines bank robbery
Christopher Lee Bibey, 47, of 445 N. Bennett St. in Southern Pines, was arrested April 22 and Jaylan Garrett Schmidt, 24, of 306 Rockingham St. in Carthage, was arrested April 18 with assistance from the FBI, according to a release from the Moore County Sheriff's Office.
Bibey allegedly stole $8,760 from Robin McClymont and wielded a tan rifle and a grenade in a Truist bank branch at 200 SW Broad St., according to an arrest warrant.
Bibey was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and held on a $250,000 secured bond.
Schmidt was charged with aiding and abetting a robbery. He also was held on a $250,000 bond, pending a hearing on May 1. In addition to McClymont, others who were present, threatened and endangered include Trevor Deaton, Daniel Kelly, Abraham Lopez, Jodene Scoville, Cheryl Taylor and Debi Wezyk, according to Schmidt's arrest warrant.
Schmidt was found guilty of misdemeanor shoplifting, larceny and possession of stolen goods on March 12, according to eCourts. The offenses stemmed from Jan. 30 when he stole a Monster Peaches and Cream drink and a fatty meat stick from a Sheetz in Carthage. He was given credit for 41 days in jail and assessed court fees of $798.
Bibey has pending charges in Harnett County for three felonies stemming from Jan. 2, 2024, including larceny, larceny of a vehicle and possession of a stolen vehicle.
According to an indictment, Bibey allegedly stole from Angel Raines a 1999 Dodge Ram pickup valued at $5,000 and an air compressor, scrap metal, floor jack, spare tire and AC unit valued at $1,200.
He was arrested Feb. 17, 2024 and posted a $20,000 bond on March 28, 2024, but failed to appear in court and was re-arrested on May 8, 2024 and held on a $40,000 bond, which he posted on May 13, 2024, according to eCourts.
Bibey also faces a misdemeanor larceny charge and possession of stolen goods in Harnett County for allegedly stealing Skittles and a Honey Bun from a Circle K in Cameron on Nov. 30, 2023.
Bibey was indicted Aug. 26, 2024 in Harnett County for breaking and entering, a felony.
He allegedly broke into 695 Pinewood Road, northwest of the Carolina Lakes Golf Course, with the intent to injure the occupants, Amy Glendenning and Christopher Abernathy.
Bibey was held on a $15,000 bond which he posted, failed to appear in court, was re-arrested and held on a $30,000 bond, which he posted on May 13, 2024, according to eCourts.
He has myriad additional arrests listed in eCourts over the years.
