Authorities had not released the identity of the Brit they were seeking following an 18-month manhunt.
But The Sun can today reveal he is Dunbar, who has been working in the Investor Management Department at the Royal Bank of Canada in a role "centred on legal compliance."

Portuguese sources said the victim was targeted while trying to defend a friend, who was alleged to be one of a gang of muggers from Lisbon's 'Sintra Line Gang'.
They were reported to have tried to rob the group of British tourists Dunbar was with. The victim's family has since denied he was linked to the gang.
Dunbar was hit by a bottle thrown by the gang but is alleged to have picked up the smashed glass and used it to slash the Portuguese teenager
The video, filmed from above the street, shows about a dozen people clashing in the road as cars pass at the intersection of Calçada do Combro and Largo do Calhariz.
Grisly footage shows Daniel Galhardas being stabbed in the neck and collapsing in a pool of blood before the Brits flee.
District Judge David Robinson, who refers to Dunbar as 'RP' - short for 'Requested Person' - in his judgement said: 'The RP together with seven named others became involved in a verbal confrontation with a group of individuals that included the deceased, Daniel Galhardas.
British prisoner Mark Roscaleer is finally captured after escaping jail in Portugal
"The RP was struck on the head with a bottle by one of Mr Galhardas's group. He left the scene but returned immediately afterwards, concealing a broken glass bottle in his left hand.
"The RP approached Mr Galhardas and struck him on the neck causing Mr Galhardasto suffer lacerations to his jugular vein and carotid artery which resulted in his death.
"It is an accusation warrant seeking the surrender of the RP for the purposes of conducting a criminal prosecution for an offence of murder."
The warrant said the maximum jail sentence for the homicide offence alleged ranges from 12 years to a 25 year life term.
The court was told at the time of his arrest, Dunbar 'lived in privately rented accommodation in London and worked for the Investor Management Department at the Royal Bank of Canada.'
His role "centred on legal compliance."
Companies House records show the city whiz kid previously ran his own company called Dunbar Eight Limited, when he described himself as a financial advisor.
The court heard that Dunbar has a conviction in the UK from 2022 for drink driving.

Around a dozen people were involved in the street scuffle
Dunbar contested extradition claiming that he was suffering from PTSD, was a suicide risk and was mentally unstable after suffering a series of injuries while playing rugby.
The judgement said: "He used to play rugby but stopped playing in 2023 due to experiencing repeated concussions.
"In 2019 he attended Queen Mary's Hospital in Woolwich because he was exhibiting strange behaviours upon his return from a rugby trip, and he was assessed by mental health professionals.
"He is not taking any medication but has struggled to sleep in prison and had suicidal thoughts since the trip to Portugal in October 2023.
"He fears being killed in a Portuguese prison by inmates or by government involvement."
Judge Robinson ruled Dunbar should be extradited in March but he was only flown to Portugal last week. He is now in the custody of Lisbon's Judicial Police awaiting trial.
Dunbar was arrested in London eight months after the murder and has been in custody in the UK while the extradition case was thrashed out.
His lawyer Ben Cooper KC, argued extradition would breach his human rights owing to unfit and unsafe jail condition which increased his risk of being being attacked or committing suicide.
But Judge Robinson ordered him to be sent back and referred to his high-powered bank job in his judgement.
His ruling said: "Immediately prior to the RP's arrest he was living independently and working in a responsible position for a bank.
"In my judgment, the circumstances do not come close to being such that the requested person's extradition would be oppressive on account of his mental condition.
"On arrival in prison, the RP was assessed to be mentally stable.
'Plainly being accused of murder, remanded in custody and facing extradition to Portugal has caused the RP to experience stress and hardship.
'His extradition will no doubt cause further such stress and hardship.
'However, the current state of his mental health is that his depressive episode is likely of moderate intensity, and the RP is not taking any medication in respect of it.
"I am satisfied that the RP's extradition would not be disproportionate."
Portugal's Judicial Police said: "The Policia Judiciaria, with the collaboration of the police and judicial authorities of the United Kingdom, located, arrested and extradited to Portugal a man who is strongly suspected of committing a first degree murder.
'He was remanded in pre-trial custody.'
Dunbar was last night in 'preventive detention' in a prison attached to the police headquarters in central Lisbon.
A trial will be held on a date to be fixed.
The Royal bank of Canada declined to comment.

It is understood that the image was taken before Greg and his friends left their hotel, the Novochoro Apartments, on their way to the pubs of Albufeira. Greg went missing in the early hours of last Wednesday morning after flying out to the resort for a five-day stag do. He later told pals he was heading back to his holiday apartment on his own during their first night out after several hours of partying and drinking. Advertisement We told how Greg's loved ones are asking locals and UK expats in the area where he is last believed to have been seen to check their home CCTV and doorbell cameras for sightings. His worried parents and his girlfriend Nicole Ashleigh Kelso have travelled to the party resort for search for Greg amid growing fears he got lost on his first night out and could have suffered an accident. His return flight to Scotland was booked to leave last Friday afternoon. Today, Greg's cousin Alison Fraser, who is in Portugal looking for her relative, said the last official sighting of Greg was at 3.27 am on Wednesday, May 28. Advertisement He was captured on CCTV walking west by a villa named Aguia Mar. Greg's sister Jillian revealed last week that police had placed her brother around Cerro da Aguia the night he vanished. Mum of missing Scots teen Cole Cooper, 19, reveals living 'nightmare' in heartbreaking interview over his disappearance The hill with residential properties is more than an hour's walk west of the Albufeira Strip where Greg is thought to have left his pals, whereas the Novochoro Apartments he had checked into on Tuesday night are a 30-minute walk north. Thanking British holidaymakers and expats as well as locals for their massive support so far, Jillian said in a Facebook post. Advertisement She said: 'Thank you for all the information and shares and we truly appreciate it. 'There have still been no sightings or updates at present. "As previously stated, this is so unlike Greg and we are truly desperate for answers. 'I am now seeking help from residents of the Cerro da Aguia area to please check any home cameras or doorbell footage between 2am and 5am on Wednesday as police believe he was in the area around this time. Advertisement 'Please share this if you know anyone in the area. "Asking for people that live in Cerro da Aguia that have cameras that cover the street or parts of the street to send me a message with their name and phone number. Thank you for all the support.' A GoFundMe appeal set up on behalf of the family to help fund the hunt for Greg reached more than £18,665 as of this morning. A statement from Greg's family posted on Saturday night read: "We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has donated, shared, and offered kind words and prayers during this incredibly difficult time. Advertisement "Your support means more to Greg's family than words can express. We also want to let you know that we are currently working with GoFundMe to ensure that all funds are securely managed. "In accordance with GoFundMe's policies, no donations will be transferred until Greg's mother has been officially added as the beneficiary of this fundraiser. "This step is in progress, and we appreciate your patience and understanding. Advertisement "The search for Greg continues with the help of professional teams. "Your continued support is vital, and we are so grateful for the outpouring of love. "Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts." Greg's sister said last week she was worried he had got lost in unfamiliar surroundings and had an accident after going out drinking with his stag do pals. Advertisement Hospitals have been checked without success but police are not thought to have yet carried out an exhaustive search of medical centres, which have involved officers going round wards to check out patients who were admitted without proper identification. Jillian described her brother yesterday as a 'really hard worker' in his job and a 'quiet guy' whose disappearance immediately 'threw up a red flag.' She also revealed Greg has a Thor-type Viking unfinished tattoo at the top of his right arm which would be visible if he was wearing a vest top or had no shirt on.

Two Brit gangsters shot dead in holiday hotspot died next to terrified 'wife'
Scottish gangsters Ross Monaghan and Eddie Lyons Jr were brutally killed in a Costa del Sol resort town this weekend - and a woman said to have been married to one of them reportedly witnessed the attack The 'wife' of one of the two Scottish gangsters assassinated at a popular Irish bar on the Costa del Sol this weekend is said to have witnessed the shooting. Ross Monaghan, 43, and Eddie Lyons Jr, 46, were gunned down in front of terrified tourists including families on Saturday night. The Mafia-style execution is said to have happened as people were watching the Champion League final. According to local media, one of the men's partners witnessed the attack. The incident happened on the terrace of Monaghans in Fuengirola when a masked man got out of a car and opened fire. READ MORE: Two Brits killed in Costa del Sol shooting named as infamous Scottish gangsters Lyons Jr was reportedly shot in the chest at close range and died at the scene. The second target was said to have ran into the bar as staff and customers ducked underneath tables and chairs. It has been reported that he was shot at least four times in the chest and abdomen and also died at the bar. The gunman fled on foot before re-joining the accomplice who had driven him to the murder scene. Police have retraced part of their escape route to the old N-340 dual carriageway heading towards Benalmadena. Details about the make and colour of the getaway vehicle have not yet been released. Officers from an elite Spanish National Police Costa del Sol -based Anti-Drug and Organised Crime Unit UDYCO are heading the ongoing probe, although they are reporting to a local investigating judge coordinating the operation. Court officials are expected to confirm later today a secrecy order has been placed on the investigation, preventing public officials from making detailed public comment. Some local reports point to witnesses identifying the shooter as a 'blond man' and investigators working on the theory British nationals are behind the gangland killing, but detectives have not commented. The shooting in Spain comes amid a violent gang war that has ripped through Scotland in recent months following an alleged dispute over drugs. Spain's National Police confirmed two men were killed but declined to name them, saying: 'Around midnight on Saturday an incident with firearms occurred in Fuengirola, specifically at an entertainment venue along the seafront. Two males died as a result from gunshot wounds. The investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made so far.' Career criminal Monaghan, who fled Scotland for Spain after a failed attempt on his life outside a Glasgow primary school in 2017, was tried but acquitted over the murder of notorious Glasgow hood Kevin 'Gerbil' Carroll at an Asda car park in 2010. In August 2017, he and Eddie Lyons Jr, both members of the Lyons crime family in Glasgow, were cleared of being involved in a brutal street attack on three men outside the Campsie bar in Bishopbriggs, East Dunbartonshire.

Families of Chinook crash victims to launch legal action against MoD
The families of those killed in a Chinook helicopter crash on the Mull of Kintyre in 1994 have said they are beginning legal action against the Ministry of Defence (MoD) for not ordering a public inquiry. They want a High Court judge to be able to review information which they say was not included in previous investigations, and which they believe will shed new light on the airworthiness of the helicopter. RAF Chinook ZD576 was carrying 25 British intelligence personnel from RAF Aldergrove in Northern Ireland to a conference at Fort George near Inverness when it crashed in foggy weather on June 2, 1994. All 25 passengers – made up of personnel from MI5, the Royal Ulster Constabulary and the British Army – were killed, along with the helicopter's four crew members. The families of the victims, who have coalesced into the Chinook Justice Campaign, said failing to order a public inquiry is a breach of the UK Government's human rights obligations. In a letter to the Government 31 years after the crash, the group said: 'The investigations conducted to date, whether considered individually or in combination, have failed to discharge the investigative duty.' They have also called for the release of documents that were sealed at the time of the crash for 100 years, something revealed in a BBC documentary last year. Solicitor Mark Stephens, who is representing the families, said: 'In this case, the families of those who were killed have seen more than enough evidence to convince them, and us, that there was a failure by the MoD to apply appropriate safeguards in order to protect the passengers and crew. 'In fact, they were put on board an aircraft that was known to be positively dangerous and should never have taken off. 'That is why we are seeking a judicial review into the Government's failure to hold a public inquiry – which the families have sought for more than a year.' Following the crash, the Chinook's pilots, Flight Lieutenants Richard Cook and Jonathan Tapper, were accused of gross negligence, but this verdict was overturned by the UK Government 17 years later, following a campaign by the families. A subsequent review by Lord Philip set out 'numerous concerns' raised by those who worked on the Chinooks, with the MoD's testing centre at Boscombe Down in Wiltshire declaring the Chinook Mk2 helicopters 'unairworthy' prior to the crash. Esme Sparks, who was seven years old when her father Major Gary Sparks was killed in the crash, said: 'We don't want to have to take legal action against the Government and MoD but we do want and need answers surrounding the circumstance of this crash. 'We want to know who or what is being protected? Who made the decision to let this helicopter take off? What is being hidden? In our view, a public inquiry is key.' Andy Tobias, who was eight when his father, Lt Col John Tobias, 41, was killed, said: 'It's clear to me that a complete lack of duty of care was given to those passengers because they got on a Chinook that wasn't fit for flight. 'And really, the government need to show their duty of candour and really be open and transparent about what's in those documents and give us the opportunity to really understand anything that's in them that could give us more answers about what happened.' The MoD said that records held in The National Archives contain personal information and early release of those documents would breach their data protection rights. An MoD spokesperson said: 'The Mull of Kintyre crash was a tragic accident and our thoughts and sympathies remain with the families, friends and colleagues of all those who died.'
