Gellar, 48, took to Instagram on Sunday, the first anniversary of Doherty's death at age 53 after a long battle with cancer. Back in April, Gellar shared another look back at Doherty's birthday from the previous year. Doherty is presented with a cake, followed by Gellar, who is presented with a smaller one.
'For as long as I can remember, we have celebrated our birthdays together @theshando,' Gellar wrote in the caption. 'This year I will keep that tradition, and celebrate you. I am so glad we were all together on this day last year, not knowing it would be the last like this. Happy Birthday Shannen. 🕊️.'
Gellar previously spoke about how important Doherty was to her entire family. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Doherty helped Gellar with her two children as they navigated homeschooling, Gellar shared on Doherty's podcast, Let's Be Clear with Shannen Doherty.
"You gave them adventures and just, freedom. And I can never repay that because that was such a difficult time and so seeing my kids that happy and giving me a break," Gellar said, PEOPLE reported. "People don't know this, but Shannen sat there sometimes while they were on Zoom school and helped them and we would have blackouts and she would plan adventures."Sarah Michelle Gellar Shares Touching Tribute to Shannen Doherty on the First Anniversary of her Passing first appeared on Parade on Jul 13, 2025

Trump's Latest Distraction Attempt Inspires New Levels Of Social Media Cringe

The social media account for the White House was criticized for cringeworthy content on Tuesday after it posted a painting of President Donald Trump surrounded by American flags and bald eagles. The post was captioned, 'They came after the wrong man,' and the words on the painting read, 'I was the hunted — NOW I'M THE HUNTER.' Take a look below. They came after the wrong man. — The White House (@WhiteHouse) July 22, 2025 However, if the White House social media department expected people to bow down and pledge fealty to their fearless leader suddenly, they were sorely mistaken. Instead, the general response tended to be, as mentioned above, cringe. Lots of cringe. Cultish and cringe-inducing. Also, insane. — Christina Hoff Sommers (@CHSommers) July 22, 2025 The most cringe account on this platform — Felix Koutchinski (@Koutchinski) July 22, 2025 How much more cringe can this account get? This is so pathetically ridiculous. — Camille MacKenzie (@CamRMacKenzie) July 22, 2025 But where some people saw cringe, others just saw a bad action movie sequel. Trump II: Out for Vengeance — Ramesh Ponnuru (@RameshPonnuru) July 22, 2025 Trump is telling us he's the new Hunter Biden — emily (@emnode) July 22, 2025 Many people online assumed the post was the president's latest attempt to distract MAGA followers enough so they stop asking pesky questions about those unreleased Jeffrey Epstein files. Sir, this is an Epstein's — Jim Stewartson, Antifascist 🇨🇦🇺🇦🏴☠️🇺🇸 (@jimstewartson) July 22, 2025 😂🤣😂 — Chicano Marine 🇲🇽🇺🇸💙 (@elchicanomarine) July 22, 2025 What is this, the poster for a new superhero called 'Pedo Man'? — Jvnior (@JvniorLive) July 22, 2025 — OG Fella 🇺🇸🇺🇦🇬🇪 (@Garrett_Fella) July 22, 2025 Related... RIP Ozzy Osbourne, Music Legend and Master of the Macabre

Ozzy Osbourne, famed heavy metal singer, has died at the age of 76—just a few weeks after performing in Black Sabbath's last official concert. He also enjoyed a robust solo career as well as fame that went beyond music. That included stints as a reality TV superstar thanks to MTV's hit series The Osbournes, but also as a touchstone figure for fans who revered his notorious antics over the years as 'the Prince of Darkness.' While many obituaries will go out today highlighting Osbourne's many contributions to music, it's also worth remembering his contributions to culture even offstage. His status as a metal superstar meant his influence filtered into adjacent media—including video games: he appeared in a World of Warcraft commercial and had songs included in Guitar Hero. He also became something of a counterculture hero, especially during the 'Satanic Panic' era of the 1980s and beyond, when the powers that be seized upon supposed hidden meanings in his songs—and fans found their own sources of strength in music that encouraged listeners to expand their minds beyond the status quo. Films and TV shows looking to create characters with similarly edgy outlooks often tapped into Black Sabbath songs and artwork as shorthand for conveying that—or just used the tunes as they made sense thematically. What would Marvel's Iron Man be without that 'Iron Man' needle drop, to name one example? Osbourne was known to be having serious health problems, which were evident onstage at the 'Back to the Beginning' farewell concert earlier in July—but given the colorful way he'd lived his life (his Behind the Music episode offers a vivid primer), we were lucky to have him as long as we did. Horns up to a legend whose voice will live on forever. Want more io9 news?
