DENVER (AP) — Pete Alonso and Jeff McNeil each hit two of New York's six home runs, and the Mets routed Colorado 13-5 on Sunday to sweep the major league-worst Rockies for the second time in a week.
Brett Baty and Francisco Alvarez also went deep for the Mets, who completed a 5-2 trip and finished 6-0 against Colorado (12-53) this season. They moved a season-best 18 games over .500 at 42-24 and opened a 4 1/2-game lead in the NL East over skidding Philadelphia.
Juan Soto went 3 for 3 with three walks and three runs on a perfect day at the plate, reaching base six times in a game for the first time in his career.
Alonso launched a pair of two-run shots for his 23rd multihomer game, breaking a tie with Darryl Strawberry for the most in Mets history.
The first baseman has 243 career homers, passing David Wright for second place in franchise annals — nine behind Strawberry.

Getty Images Advertisement Blackburn allowed three earned runs (two of them in the ninth when he said he was just trying to throw the ball over the plate with the Mets rolling) on seven hits and one walk. Manager Carlos Mendoza said the plan from the start was to receive five innings from Megill, who was on regular rest following a start last Tuesday against the Dodgers in which he threw 105 pitches, and then let Blackburn go long. That strategy would allow rest for an overtaxed bullpen. Advertisement 3 Paul Blackburn delivers a pitch during the Mets' win against the Rockies on June 8. Jordan Seaton Challenged by Deion Sanders' Colorado Staff to Lead by Example

Jordan Seaton Challenged by Deion Sanders' Colorado Staff to Lead by Example originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Jordan Seaton has embraced his new leadership role at Colorado. The former five-star has become the face of the Buffs and leads by example. The latest request from his coaches shows his growth over the past year. CU strength and conditioning coach Andreu Swasey challenged the team to become 'attractive'. He explained his request and how it applies to football. Advertisement 'Become attractive men. In football, to a coach, to your teammates, being attractive is being somebody that people look up to and want to be motivated from. Be attractive men. It will help the team be more successful if you take care of yourself,' Swasey said. Seaton developed in his freshman season. There was no waiting on the sidelines with the one-time IMG Academy product starting immediately. With the absence of names like Shedeur Sanders, Travis Hunter, CamRon Silmon-Craig, and others who have departed the program for life after college, a leadership void was expected. However, Seaton has chosen to fill that void in a big way. Some of the new Colorado players have become adjusted to live in Boulder. Every year the same thing happens. New recruits and transfers arrive in Boulder for summer camp, and some find out very quickly that the elevation and thin mountain air is a real thing. It is not uncommon for new players to face an adjustment period. In today's conditioning periods, multiple players were seen gassed and even in danger of suffering from altitude sickness. Two years ago, a viral video surfaced of former CU five-star Cormani McClain struggling to adjust with none of his teammates helping him out. Today's workout revealed Jordan Seaton has no intention of allowing that to happen. As players began to show signs of sickness, he was there for them. Terrell Timmons, Brandon Davis-Swain and Tyler Brown could be seen assisting players to catch their breath with Seaton nearby off camera. He allowed for a breather but would not accept quitting on the conditioning. 'Okay, but he's not quitting, he ain't quitting,' Seaton declared. After each run, he would check back with words of encouragement. Before too long, even those struggling pushed themselves to get back to the line to run the sprint. Before long players like Seaton and Yahya Attia were asking Swasey to 'blow it' as if they weren't interested in resting between reps. While this team under Deion Sanders has never been 'out for self', there is a strong sense of 'we' over 'me' early in this offseason. While everyone seems to be bought in on the concept, it's becoming very clear that Seaton intends to be the vocal leader of this football team. Deion Sanders' Cryptic Three-Word Message Comes After Publicizing Health Setbacks

Deion Sanders' Cryptic Three-Word Message Comes After Publicizing Health Setbacks originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Deion Sanders continues to stay out of the spotlight. One week after the Colorado Buffaloes coach told former NFL standout Asante Samuel he was dealing with health issues that has recently caused him to lose 14 pounds, he took to social media with a motivational video with captions. Advertisement The still image in the video is of Sanders on his property in Texas, staring off in the distance with the main message of "I see you." It adds a bit of intrigue as to what might be going on. While Sanders didn't reveal many details to Samuel, he did say it has forced him not to be out in the public eye. When Samuel asked if fasting was involved, Sanders replied by saying it was more serious. He noted that it was his first public appearance since a press conference on April 22, adding that he needed to go on the podcast for a boost. Sanders' health challenges have been widely reported over the past four years. He previously underwent multiple surgeries related to blood clots in his lower extremities. It resulted in the amputation of two toes on his left foot while at Jackson State. In late 2024, Sanders said doctors advised removing the remaining toes, which he declined.
