'I Felt Naked': Moushumi Chatterjee Recalls Breaking Down Over Backless Blouse In Her Film
Last Updated:
Moushumi Chatterjee recalls breaking down over revealing outfit on set.
Veteran actress Moushumi Chatterjee has always been known for being outspoken and standing her ground when it comes to her values. With a career spanning over 25 years in the film industry, the actress has worked with top names — but never without setting her personal boundaries first.
One such boundary, as she revealed recently, was refusing to wear revealing outfits on screen. Moushumi began her acting career at the age of 16 and stuck to wearing suits or sarees, steering clear of any outfit that exposed too much skin. She made it clear that she wasn't comfortable wearing clothes with plunging necklines.
In a candid chat with Filmfare, Moushumi shared an emotional memory from a film set where she was handed an outfit that deeply upset her. 'Seeing those clothes, I felt as if I had become naked. But then my husband explained to me and I completed that film," she recalled.
The outfit in question was designed by renowned costume designer Mani J. Rabadi, who gave her a backless blouse and a short skirt. The moment she saw it, she broke down in tears.
The actress also opened up about passing on a major film offer due to a similar reason. She was offered a role in Dharmendra's film Guddi, but she turned it down when she found out the character had to wear a short skirt.
The film later went to Jaya Bachchan and turned out to be a huge hit. Despite the missed opportunity, Moushumi remained firm on her principles.

"#IStandWithKamalHaasan" trends as fans back actor amid 'Thug Life' Karnataka release row
Legendary Tamil actor has made the difficult choice not to release his highly anticipated pan-Indian gangster drama, 'Thug Life', in Karnataka on June 5. This decision follows a controversy over a statement he made regarding the origins of the Kannada language, which has led to protests and demands for an apology. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now In a letter to the Kannada Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC), Kamal Haasan explained his stance, stating that apologies are reserved for mistakes, not misunderstandings, and therefore he would not retract his comments. The decision to forego the Karnataka release is expected to cost 'Thug Life' and its makers, including Kamal Haasan and director , an estimated Rs 12 to 15 crore as per a OneIndia report. Despite this financial setback, Kamal Haasan has found considerable support from fans and movie enthusiasts, with the hashtag "#IStandWithKamalHaasan" trending widely on social media. Supporters argue that Kamal Haasan's statement was rooted in linguistic history and not intended as an insult to Kannada. Many shared that Tamil is considered one of the oldest living languages in the world and that languages like Kannada have historical and linguistic ties to Tamil. Some users shared excerpts from Tamil textbooks that support this view, that Kamal Haasan's comments were based on factual information. One X user wrote, "What @ikamalhaasan said is 100% RIGHT. Tamil is the oldest living language in the world. Languages like Kannada & others have roots linked to Tamil — that's linguistic history, not offense. Truth doesn't need an apology. History doesn't need permission." Another user's tweet reads, "Respecting Kannada sentiments is important, but Tamil's historical influence on Kannada is a fact, not an insult. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Kamal Haasan's intent was misunderstood; his refusal to apologize is principled, not arrogant. Let's foster dialogue, not division. #ThugLife #IstandWithKamalHaasan." While acknowledging the importance of respecting Kannada sentiments, many fans and movie lovers have rallied behind Kamal Haasan, praising his integrity and commitment to his beliefs. Despite the absence of a Karnataka release, 'Thug Life' is still expected to have a strong opening this weekend. The film, directed by Mani Ratnam also stars Silambarasan TR, , Abhirami, Sanya Malhotra, and others.

Virat Kohli's message to RCB captain Rajat Patidar: IPL win is as big for others
Virat Kohli had a heartfelt message for Rajat Patidar and the rest of the RCB squad after they ended their IPL jinx and won the final on Tuesday, June 3. RCB defeated PBKS by 6 runs to secure their first-ever IPL crown in front of a massive crowd in Ahmedabad. Kohli was in tears as the match was concluding, but sported a big smile during the celebrations. Speaking to the broadcasters after the win, the RCB star said that it was important to understand the journeys of the other players like Patidar in the squad. advertisementIPL 2025 Final, RCB vs PBKS: Highlights | Scorecard "I can say that my journey has been an 18-year-long one, playing in the IPL. But it's important to understand that the other players too—most of them are around 30, 32, 33 years old—so it's not like they haven't faced struggles. They've struggled at different levels and risen above that. You already know Rajat's story. Luvneet Sisodia got injured, Rajat Patidar came in, performed well, became a permanent member, and then became captain.""So, in the middle of all the emotions, we shouldn't forget that each individual here has had their own journey, has worked hard, and struggled a lot to reach here. Like take Mani Kaaka—he has been with our team from the very first day, and also with the Indian team. He's been with NCA and here for 17 years. Basu Sir has also been here for 17 years. People often don't recognise that. Others have also faced a lot of struggles in life, and their family members worry for them just as much as mine do for me," said Kohli. 'This win is just as big a win for the squad as it is for me'advertisementKohli said that the win is as big for the team as it is for him and it will serve as motivation for a lot of players in the squad. "So, for them too, this is just as big a win as it is for me. Everyone wanted me to win the trophy, to lift the cup. I've faced many heartbreaks. But for the boys who have reached this level for the first time, or have reached here after a long struggle, this is such a huge motivation, such a big victory. It's very important to understand that. These guys have created history for RCB, and when they look back on their journey, they'll feel the same emotions. Those moments might not be captured on camera, but that doesn't make them any less real. It's 100 percent as important and as big a win for them as it is for me.""And I've said the same thing to the entire management," said Kohli. Stay updated on IPL 2025 with India Today!
