Himachal BJP stages dharna against shifting of Medical College and Hospital out of Nahan town
He alleged that Congress governments mishandled the oldest Foundry of north India and finally the Nahan Foundry was closed and they did not open any other big institute in the Nahan town during their rule.
Addressing the protestors, BJP state president Rajiv Bindal said that Nahan had only one big institute, the Nahan Foundry, having more than 1000 employees when Himachal Pradesh came into existence.
Nahan (HP), May 13 (PTI) Hundreds of residents of Nahan, mainly affiliated to the BJP, on Tuesday staged a dharna at the Bara Chowk in the heart of the town against the shifting of Dr Yashwant Singh Parmar Medical College and Hospital 5 km away from the town.
It was the BJP government which opened big institutes like the medical college in the town with the allocation of Rs 260 crore for the construction of its buildings, said Bindal. He added that the construction work was smoothly being carried out during the BJP rule but as soon as the Congress government took over in Himachal Pradesh, the construction work of the medical college buildings was stopped, citing no reason.

The pact sought to divide the water of the Indus river and its tributaries equitably between the two countries. Under the treaty, water from three eastern rivers—Beas, Ravi, and Sutlej—was allocated to India, and that from the three western rivers—Chenab, Indus, and Jhelum—to Pakistan. The treaty also permitted both nations to use the other's rivers for certain purposes, such as small hydroelectric projects that require little or no water storage.

Tinder account under scanner: Punjab police probe dating app profile suspected to be linked to Amritpal Singh
Punjab Police have reached out to dating app Tinder for information on an account suspected to be connected to Amritpal Singh, the Khadoor Sahib MP, currently booked for the murder of Sikh activist Gurpreet Singh Hari Nau. The police have asked Tinder to provide user data including the account holder's name, date of birth, phone number, IP logs (since January 1, 2019), location data, email addresses, chat records, contacts, photographs, and media files associated with the account. According to the Faridkot police, Gurpreet Singh—a member of Amritpal's 'Waris Punjab De' outfit and vocal critic of Amritpal Singh—was shot dead on October 9, 2024, while returning home from a village Gurdwara, reported PTI. The case is being probed under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act. Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav had earlier alleged that the murder was carried out at Amritpal's behest. Authorities also claim gangster-turned-terrorist Arshdeep Singh alias Arsh Dalla masterminded the killing, as per PTI. Two shooters have already been arrested in connection with the crime. In a letter dated May 26, accessed by PTI, Punjab Police formally requested Tinder's assistance, stating: 'On October 9, 2024, Gurpreet Singh, an online activist who managed the Facebook page 'Hari Nau Talks' and was outspoken against Amritpal Singh, was murdered by two motorcycle-borne assailants. During the investigation, a Tinder profile under the name 'Amrit Sandhu' was discovered and is suspected to be linked to the primary accused, Amritpal Singh.' Amritpal Singh, currently lodged in Assam's Dibrugarh jail under the National Security Act (NSA), rose to prominence for reviving pro-Khalistan rhetoric and modelling himself after slain militant leader Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. Anubrata Mondal audio tape: NCW seeks action-taken report from Bengal DGP Rajeev Kumar within 72 hours
The National Commission for Women (NCW) Thursday wrote to West Bengal Director General of Police (DGP) Rajeev Kumar regarding the purported verbal abuse of a cop in Birbhum by Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Anubrata Mondal. According to the letter sent by Archana Majumdar, a member of the NCW, 'The National Commission for Women expresses deep concern over the apparent inaction by the state police in this matter, despite clear and widespread public outrage. This inaction not only emboldens such repeat offenders but also deeply undermines the morale of the police force and shakes public confidence in the neutrality and responsiveness of law enforcement agencies. You are aware that Mr Mondal has a long and well-documented history of intimidation, criminal conduct, and corruption, including arrest and custody by the CBI in previous cases.' Majumdar told media persons that 'the NCW has sought an action-taken report in the matter,' adding that 'if the wife and mother of the police officer face such a situation, then what is the condition of common citizens of the State.' The Commission has asked DGP Rajeev Kumar to submit the report within 72 hours from the time of receipt of the letter. After the audio of the telephone conversation went viral, sources said the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has also started a fresh probe to find out whether any witness in the cattle-smuggling case had been similarly intimidated either by Mondal or any of his associates to change their statements. Reacting to the NCW notice, TMC spokesperson Joy Prakash Majumdar said, 'The NCW now is being used for political purposes, and it is sad that they have lost their independence and impartiality. In BJP-ruled states, there are reports of enormous misconduct against women… the NCW never utters a word or interferes in such states. On the other hand, in places like West Bengal, they make political statements for the benefit of the BJP.' A week after the audio conversation between Mondal and the police officer went viral, Mondal appeared before the sub-divisional police officer recently and recorded his statement. The TMC condemned Mondal's remarks and sought an apology from him, which he promptly complied with. Meanwhile, Bengal Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari has announced that a 'Nari Samman Yatra' will be held in Bolpur on June 9. Speaking on the viral audio tape, Adhikari said, 'Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had taught Mondal what to say in the police station. After Bolpur's rally on June 9, the same yatra will take place in Nadia. I am expecting at least 10,000 people to attend the rally.' Mondal was arrested in August 2022 by the CBI in connection with the multi-crore cattle-smuggling case in West Bengal. Later, he was also arrested by the Enforcement Directorate. After spending over two years in Tihar Jail in New Delhi, Mondal was released on bail recently, following which he returned to his house in Bolpur under Birbhum district.
