LeBron James isn't thrilled about deepfake videos of him, and his legal team is taking action
NBA stars like LeBron James are no strangers to memes and viral internet content about their lives being circulated online. However, a new trend of people creating deepfake videos has recently cropped up, and as per AI platform FlickUp's founder Jason Stacks, the Los Angeles Lakers player is not that thrilled about it. LeBron James is not happy about people making deepfake videos of him.(AP) Cease-and-desist letter In a recent Instagram reel, Stacks revealed that James's legal team had issued him a cease-and-desist letter in lieu of the deepfake content being created using his platform. 'This is a letter from one of the biggest NBA players of all time. Two months ago, I launched the YouTube of AI video. It was a fun idea to help creators make some more money. But then people started noticing … Like this guy, yeah, LeBron James. And he wasn't happy, because I got this cease-and-desist from his team,' says Stacks. "I'm so f**ked 😭,' he wrote in the caption. This is in reference to multiple deepfake videos created by online users, including one where James is pregnant with Golden State Warriors' Stephen Curry's baby. Former teammate speaks in support James's former teammate Richard Jefferson spoke up in support of the player's attempt to remove content potentially harmful to his image during a recent appearance on the Road Trippin' podcast. We see the value in name, image, and likeness,' he claimed. 'This is one of the issues with AI. All of a sudden, videos depicting whatever you want. They're saying whatever you want. Think for all human beings, what people are doing isn't a positive thing. Kendrick Perkins, Jefferson's co-host, also spoke up on the matter. 'If it is true that LeBron and his team are sending out those cease and desists and stopping that s***, I'm all for it,' he said. 'You have one name. Protect that m*********** name!' This is one of many efforts of James's legal team to take charge of his online narrative and address issues concerning the illicit use of famous personalities. It also points out the dangers of the unregulated use of such technology. By Stuti Gupta

NBA Trade Rumors: Los Angeles Lakers Superstar Expected to Finalize $229 Million Lakers Extension After Jordan Brand Tour
Luka Doncic of the Los Angeles Lakers (Image via Getty) Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Doncic is widely expected to finalize a four-year, $229 million contract extension with the franchise after completing his current Jordan Brand tour across the United States. The decision comes at a pivotal time for both Doncic and the Lakers, as the organization continues to build a championship-caliber roster around the Slovenian guard. Deal Likely to be Sealed in Los Angeles According to ClutchPoints' Brett Siegel, Luka Doncic is scheduled to meet with Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka and other top executives once his tour ends in Los Angeles this Saturday. Siegel reported, 'It is widely expected that Doncic will meet with Rob Pelinka and the Lakers ' brass upon his return to Los Angeles and officially sign a massive contract extension.' The tour itinerary includes stops in New York City on Tuesday and Chicago on Thursday, wrapping up in LA over the weekend. Doncic is returning to the U.S. after training overseas in preparation for EuroBasket 2025. Los Angeles Lakers' Aggressive Efforts to Secure Doncic's Future Luka Doncic. Image via: Juan Ocampo/NBAE via Getty Images Since their disappointing early exit from the 2024-25 season, the Lakers have taken significant steps to prove to Luka Doncic that he is the centerpiece of their future. These efforts include: • Selling a majority stake of the franchise to billionaire Mark Walter • Acquiring Deandre Ayton to strengthen the pick-and-roll game • Signing former Defensive Player of the Year Marcus Smart — a move that came after Doncic personally pushed for it As Siegel noted, 'The Lakers have made it their mission to show Luka that this is his organization now, and they have been making moves to appease him since February's trade with the Dallas Mavericks.' The Trade That Shocked the NBA Luka Doncic 's trade from the Dallas Mavericks to the Los Angeles Lakers on February 2 sent shockwaves through the NBA community — including Doncic himself. The five-time All-Star was reportedly so stunned by the news that he threw his phone in frustration, clearly unprepared for the blockbuster midseason move. Impressive Performance in LA Despite Disruption Despite the surprise trade, Luka Doncic quickly found his footing in Los Angeles. Over 28 games with the Lakers, he averaged: Stat Category Stat Line Points Per Game 28.2 Rebounds Per Game 8.1 Assists Per Game 7.2 Field Goal % 43.8% Three-Point % 37.9% These numbers reflect a seamless transition for Doncic, who managed to maintain his All-NBA level production amid roster changes and the pressure of joining one of the league's most storied franchises. All Eyes on the 2025-26 Season Looking ahead, Luka Doncic is poised to enter the upcoming season with a full training camp under his belt and a stronger supporting cast. Teaming up with LeBron James and a retooled Los Angeles Lakers lineup that now includes Ayton and Smart, expectations are high that LA can move past the early playoff exits that have plagued them in recent years.
