Twins who went viral after they spoke in perfect unison during live TV interview cash in on their global fame

Daily Mail23-04-2025

A pair of Australian twins, who were once mentored by Steve Irwin, are raising tens of thousands of dollars after their in-sync interview went viral.
Sisters Bridgette and Paula Powers, 47, speak in unison - a characteristic that caught the attention of people across the world after an interview about a fatal crash.
The pair relayed their experience of witnessing a carjacking and shooting on Queensland 's Bruce Highway on Channel 10's The Project on Tuesday.
Within 24 hours, they were back on TV talking about their unique way of speaking and GoFundMe contacted the pair to help use their viral success for a good cause.
As a result, the Powers sisters launched a fundraiser on Wednesday to raise $30,000 to support their long-standing work rescuing pelicans and seabirds.
Bridgette and Paula run Twinnies Pelican Seabird Rescue, a 24/7 rehabilitation facility on Steve Irwin Way, in Landsborough on Queensland's Sunshine Coast.
'It is a costly passion [but] we just love looking after the seabirds and water birds,' Bridgette told Daily Mail Australia.
'We love it because they need our help because there's hardly anyone who cares for them on a big scale.'
The funds will go towards buying fish, ongoing electricity costs and maintaining the rescue building.
'Our poor old centre, we're forever patching it up all the time. It's a very old building but it's working,' Bridgette said.
The sisters, with Paula joining Bridgette in the background of the call, said the last two days had been 'hectic' balancing their work with interviews.
When asked how long they had been speaking in unison, they answered: 'From day dot'.
But the pair have not always received a warm reception, with some online trolls criticising the pair if there is a delay between their voices.
'It worries the keyboard warriors, they've got nothing better to do,' they said.
'The comments don't bother us anymore. It used to bother us but now it doesn't whatsoever. I don't know why it bothers them.'
The sisters say they try to speak independently but it 'comes very awkward'.
Bridgette and Paula shocked viewers when they appeared on Channel 10's The Project on Wednesday.
Host Waleed Aly was left stunned as they explained their unique way of speaking.
'It just happens and we don't know why,' they said, in unison.
'We have tried to talk separately but we're not ourselves.
'It's not us, and it's very hard.'
It comes after the Powers twins recounted the terrifying moment their mother came face-to-face with an alleged gunman.
The man is accused of causing a crash on Queensland's Bruce Highway that killed a 22-year-old woman.
While describing the ordeal to reporters on Tuesday, they gave an identical, word-for-word explanation at the exact same time, with the clip quickly going viral.
Their appearance subsequently made headlines around the world, with US media and politics news website Mediaite describing their recount as 'surreal'.
Twins Bridgette and Paula have previously caught the attention of media after it was revealed they have their own language and wear matching clothes every day.
As children, the twins were taken under the wing of late wildlife warrior Steve Irwin.

Cascais hosts Atlantic Sunsets: electronic music parties take over the Marina and Forte de Santo António da Barra

It's not every day that the Cascais' Marina and the Forte de Santo António da Barra in Estoril get transformed into dance floors – but that's exactly what's happening this August with Atlantic Sunsets, a series of electronic music parties set to take over these unlikely spaces. On August 2nd, the Marina de Cascais hosts sets from Australian DJ RY X, French artist Marten Lou, local duos Moullinex & GPU Panic (in a special hybrid set they're calling MXGPU) and Ari Girão & John Woods. Then, on August 16th, as previously announced, the Forte de Santo António da Barra welcomes the British act Jungle (in DJ set mode), Turkish talent Carlita, plus Ari Girão & John Woods once again, along with a surprise international artist whose name will be revealed on June 29th due to contractual reasons. 'With a limited capacity, the Cascais Atlantic Sunsets were designed as a sophisticated, sensory experience where every element – from the line-up to the setting – was chosen to create unforgettable sunset moments,' the organisers said in a statement. 'The Marina, usually all about nautical life, and the Forte de Santo António da Barra, rarely opened for events, are now transformed into unexpected stages for a unique celebration of music and place.' Tickets are available online now, priced between €30 and €35, with a VIP package also on offer for €150. The event is organised by Gigs on Mars with support from Cascais City Council and Turismo de Cascais.
