TVS Motor Company has filed a nameplate patent for 'Orbiter'. It is expected that this name would be used for an upcoming electric scooter that will be positioned below the iQube in the brand's portfolio. The launch of the TVS Orbiter could happen later this year. However, nothing is confirmed as of now. This is because the name of the product is finalised when it is closer to the launch. Apart from the Orbiter, TVS has also filed nameplate patents for 'EV-One' and 'O'.
TVS Motor Company is once again stirring up anticipation in the electric two-wheeler segment, thanks to a recently leaked design patent. Although there's no official word yet regarding its market-specific launch, speculations are strong that the patent reveals a brand-new entry-level electric scooter. This model is likely to sit below the existing TVS iQube, both in terms of pricing and features, making it an accessible option for a broader range of buyers.

According to details published by Indonesian automotive blog TMCBlog.com, the design patent points to a scooter that borrows design cues from the iQube but brings them in a much slimmer, more streamlined package. Visually, the most striking aspect is the LED headlamp with integrated daytime running lights (DRLs), which is reminiscent of the iQube's setup but appears more compact and refined.
Another notable shift is the overall body structure. Unlike the iQube's upright and boxy appearance, the new scooter adopts a sleeker profile with smooth, aerodynamic panels flowing from the front floorboard to the rear. This approach not only enhances visual appeal but may also help with efficiency and performance—two critical factors in the electric mobility segment.

The design direction suggests that TVS could be targeting a younger, more style-conscious urban demographic with this scooter. The sportier and more modern look is in line with current trends among urban EV buyers, who prioritize aesthetics alongside practicality. Global EV or Something Else?
Interestingly, TVS had earlier confirmed it was working on a new global electric vehicle, and this patent could very well be part of that initiative. However, ambiguity still surrounds the nature of the scooter. While all signs point to it being an EV, the company has yet to confirm whether this model is fully electric or possibly powered by an internal combustion engine (ICE).

Swiggy Drops ‘Dilli Se Hu BLCK' Newspaper Ad. No, The Internet Isn't Laughing

Last Updated: Swiggy made a high-profile announcement on the front page of a leading newspaper to mark One BLCK's arrival in the national capital. It has been almost half a year since Swiggy launched One BLCK, its exclusive, invitation-only premium membership offering a range of perks on deliveries, dining and more. Now, as the food delivery giant expands the service to Delhi, the move has sparked criticism from many quarters. Swiggy recently made a high-profile announcement on the front page of a leading newspaper to mark One BLCK's arrival in the national capital, only to face immediate backlash from the public. What caught everyone's attention was a bold phrase that read, 'Dilli Se Hu BLCK," suggestively mimicking a popular Hindi slang. Notorious advertising, allowed on the front page of a prestigious newspaper. This is a play on an abusive slang. Amazing how all this is cool and normalised. @Swiggy @EconomicTimes. — Sanket Upadhyay (@sanket) June 12, 2025 Journalist Sanket Upadhyay shared the same on his X (formerly known as Twitter) handle, calling out the advertisement as 'notorious." Along with the pictures of the newspaper, Sanket wrote, 'Notorious advertising, allowed on the front page of a prestigious newspaper. This is a play on an abusive slang. Amazing how all this is cool and normalised." Many took to the comments section and agreed with Sanket's views. One wrote, 'There is a need for a code to put reasonable restrictions on these kinds of abusive advertisements," while another added, 'Newspapers alone should not be blamed for this; those with the power to communicate bear the primary responsibility." As per the company, the invite-only membership offers a range of benefits like faster deliveries and complimentary drinks and desserts when dining out. India may ease EV localisation norms amid China's rare earth export curbs

India is considering a relaxation of its stringent 50per cent localisation requirement for electric vehicle (EV) makers and suppliers in light of China's recent curbs on rare earth exports, according to people familiar with the matter told Bloomberg. While the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) has not yet submitted a formal request to lower the threshold, industry representatives have raised the issue during consultations with the government, the sources said, requesting anonymity due to the private nature of the discussions. China, the dominant global supplier of rare earth minerals, imposed restrictions in April on the export of these critical materials, which are used in the production of permanent magnets essential for EV traction motors. The move has disrupted supply chains and posed a challenge to India's localisation goals under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme. Indian auto industry's urge In response, the government has advised automakers to temporarily import fully-built traction motors or their sub-assemblies to circumvent supply bottlenecks, sources added. The Ministry of Heavy Industries has not yet commented publicly on the issue. Suppliers and manufacturers are reportedly scrambling to secure alternative sources and are working on expensive workarounds to continue production. However, a prolonged disruption in the availability of rare earth materials could severely impact the ability of automakers to meet the localisation mandates tied to the PLI scheme, which offers financial incentives to promote domestic manufacturing. The PLI program is part of a broader government effort to reduce reliance on imports across key sectors, including electronics, textiles, semiconductors, and EVs. Despite the push for self-reliance, China's control over the rare earth supply chain leaves Indian original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) with limited options. According to the people familiar with the matter, some automakers are already exploring the possibility of importing fully assembled motors or critical sub-assemblies directly from China to ensure production continuity. India's potential move to soften localisation norms could provide short-term relief to EV manufacturers, though it also underscores the country's dependency on critical materials from China and the urgent need to develop resilient, localised supply chains.
