KiTA reaffirms commitment to sustainable tourism in Kinabatangan
KINABATANGAN:
The Kinabatangan Corridor of Life Tourism Operators Association (KiTA) has reaffirmed its dedication to advancing sustainable tourism and conservation efforts in the Kinabatangan region, following the successful conclusion of its 15th Annual General Meeting (AGM) and 35th Executive Committee (Exco) Meeting.
The meetings, which brought together key stakeholders from across the tourism sector, provided an opportunity to reflect on the association's progress and map out future initiatives aimed at preserving one of Sabah's most ecologically significant areas.

A key highlight of the event was the announcement of KiTA's new leadership for the 2025–2026 term.
Lim Tsung, better known as Johnny, has been elected President, taking over from Alexander Yee Kok Tsen, who will now serve as Immediate Past President.

The incoming committee also includes Rory Lewis McKenzie (Deputy President), Amy Chin (Treasurer), Sulinah Tan (Secretary), and committee members Fernando R. and Yanti Awang.
In his address to members, Johnny expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him and underscored the importance of collaboration in achieving shared goals.

'I am truly thankful for the opportunity to serve. I believe that with teamwork and a shared vision, we can achieve great things for Kinabatangan,' he said.
Among the initiatives planned under the new leadership is a river clean-up project involving local communities, aimed at strengthening environmental stewardship and promoting eco-conscious tourism.

'This is just one of several community-driven efforts we're planning to implement to protect our natural resources while supporting the local economy,' Johnny added.
He also took the opportunity to acknowledge the contributions of his predecessor, praising Alexander for his strong leadership and continued support.
'On behalf of KiTA, I would like to thank Alexander for setting the direction and for his steadfast leadership. We're grateful that he will remain actively involved as our Immediate Past President.'
The AGM also focused on strengthening stakeholder engagement.
Members resolved to conduct courtesy visits to relevant government agencies to explore potential partnerships in support of conservation, tourism development, and community empowerment across the Kinabatangan region.
As it moves forward, KiTA remains committed to serving as a collaborative platform that brings together tourism operators, local communities, and environmental advocates to promote Kinabatangan as a benchmark for sustainable tourism in Sabah.

Sabah China Chamber of Commerce re-elects Frankie for third term

Held at the Sabah Golf and Country Club in Bukit Padang, the session saw strong participation, with 78 members in attendance. A total of 29 committee members were elected unopposed for the 2025–2028 term, reflecting unity and trust within the Chamber. The new committee will convene within two weeks to finalise leadership roles in accordance with SCCC's constitution. 'I am humbled by our members' trust. We will continue strengthening Sabah's economic ties, both regionally and globally,' said Frankie, expressing gratitude for the renewed mandate. Key leaders, including Brett Chua, Datuk Jonathan Koh and Datuk Simon Teoh, were among the newly elected committee members. In a major development, SCCC confirmed a business delegation to Zhengzhou, China, from Sept 24–28, for the International Business and Trade Expo. The mission aims to showcase Sabah's potential in agriculture, tourism, logistics, halal products and green technology while facilitating partnerships through MoUs and networking sessions. The scale and potential of India have made it a 'beautiful opportunity' compared to China, which used to have significant development in terms of growth and number of aircraft and travellers a decade to reporters in New Delhi, IndiGo's CEO said, 'China had a significant development in terms of growth and number of aircraft and travellers. Probably like a decade ago, the entire development was there. When we speak about this being India's time, we see enormous growth.' Talking about the message of the 81st Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) being held in New Delhi from June 1 to 3, IndiGo CEO said that the big message from this AGM is that this is 'India's time.'
