PD Act invoked against 4 accused
Guntur: Guntur District SP S Satish Kumar invoked PD Act against four accused-- Manoj, Sai Sambasiva Rao, Gopi and Vijaya Babu-- for involving illegal transport of drugs, theft cases, rapes and other crimes.
They have been shifted to Rajahmundry Central jail. In a statement, he warned that he will take stern action against those involved in anti-social activities and create law and order problems.

Argument by drunk vendor led to mall murder, 2 held
Gurgaon: An unprovoked argument started by a drunk paan shop owner spiraled into the mall shooting that led to the murder of a tractor driver on Thursday morning, police said. Waseem (24), a tractor driver, was stopped from entering the ILD Mall in Sector 47 along Sohna Road by Manoj, who runs a paan shop in the complex. Police said on Friday that Waseem was heading inside the mall with his brother and a labourer to pick up construction debris from an area that was being renovated. "Manoj had just closed his shop and was intoxicated. Without any provocation, Manoj screamed at Waseem and stopped the group at the mall's gate. When Waseem confronted Manoj, the shop owner started filming him on his phone. Waseem told him not to, and an argument ensued," a police officer said on Friday. Waseem and the labourer managed to go inside the mall regardless. This allegedly enraged Manoj, who called his associate Deepak to the mall. TOI reported on Friday that Deepak came to the mall soon after in his Scorpio, along with a staffer – Aarif (23). He was carrying a licensed pistol. Another confrontation erupted at the spot where Waseem and the labourer were working, and Deepak shot Waseem in the stomach. Police said Deepak was arrested from Bhondsi area of the city on Thursday, and Aarif was nabbed on Friday. Manoj is still on the run. "We have also recovered the Scorpio car. We will soon nab the other accused in the case," ASI Sandeep Kumar, Gurgaon police spokesperson, said. Kanpur man gets 10-year RI in 2001 acid attack case
Kanpur: The Court of Additional Sessions Judge (Court No XVIII) Rakesh Kumar Tiwari on Wednesday convicted one Manoj for unintentional murder in a two-decade-old acid attack case and sentenced him to ten years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs10,000. The court, however, acquitted co-accused Deepak due to lack of evidence. According to Additional District Government Counsel Dharmendra Pal Singh, the incident took place on May 31, 2001, under Pheelkhana police station limits. Ganga Prasad, the complainant and a shopkeeper near Tapeshwari Devi temple, had alleged that a dispute had broken out between his wife Droupadi and the accused Manoj and Deepak. The quarrel reportedly arose after Droupadi objected to Manoj beating her daughter Aarti, who had accidentally splashed water on him while playing. Angered by the confrontation, Manoj allegedly returned some time later with a bottle of acid and poured it on Droupadi, causing her serious burn injuries. She was admitted to hospital but succumbed to her injuries 20 days later. Based on Ganga Prasad's complaint, police had lodged a case of unintentional murder against Manoj and Deepak. During the trial, the prosecution examined seven witnesses to establish the sequence of events and Manoj's role in the crime.

Fake SEBI documents, nomadic operation: How ex-banker from Andhra led share trading racket before Gurgaon police pull plug
The Gurgaon cyber police, on June 1, arrested a former banker from Andhra Pradesh and four others for allegedly running a share trading racket during a raid at a hotel in Punjab's Zirakpur. The accused have been identified as Chinta Manoj Kumar, 38, a former HDFC Bank manager from Guntur in Andhra Pradesh; Gurvinder and Ravi from Jind, Haryana; Rohit Kumar from Hisar, Haryana; and Akshay from Una, Himachal Pradesh. The five allegedly swindled at least Rs 5 lakh from a woman by luring her into share trading investments with promises of high profits using fake Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI)-registered company documents. The accused also provided mule bank accounts to cyber fraudsters, according to the police. On March 18, the complainant reported to the Gurgaon cybercrime police station (west) that on January 13, 2025, she received a WhatsApp message with a link from an unknown number. The accused allegedly sent emails and forged SEBI documents to gain the victim's trust, convincing her to install a mobile app. Through the app, the victim was allegedly persuaded to make multiple transactions, resulting in financial loss. A team supervised by Priyanshu Dewan, Assistant Commissioner of Police (cybercrime), investigated the case and made the arrests. Speaking to The Indian Express, Inspector Sandeep, who led the operation, said, 'It is their greed for making money that makes them enter this cyberfraud and lure others into it. We are looking into and investigating their role in cyberfrauds in other states as well.' He said it took time to nab the accused as they would frequently change their base of operations to avoid authorities. 'He (Manoj) had hired the other accused through a social media site,' said Inspector Sandeep. After the arrest, Manoj, who allegedly quit his bank job citing work pressure, and Akshay were remanded in two-day police custody Monday and sent in judicial custody Wednesday. Gurvinder, Ravi, and Rohit were also sent in judicial custody. The police recovered seven mobile phones, two laptops, and two current account kits with a daily transaction limit of Rs 5 crore from the accused. Investigations revealed that Rs 4.4 lakh of the defrauded amount was transferred to a current account purchased by Manoj from an accomplice, Vikas, who is also arrested, for Rs 80,000. Vikas had bought the account from its holder for Rs 40,000, said the police. Manoj allegedly passed the account to Rohit for a 3 per cent commission. Rohit then handed it to Gurvinder and Ravi, who further transferred it to Akshay for a commission, the police said. Akshay, connected to cyber fraudsters via WhatsApp and Telegram, allegedly facilitated the account's use in the fraud. The investigation in the case is ongoing, with 14 arrests made so far. Bankers, chartered accountants aiding financial frauds: police Meanwhile, the Gurgaon police have so far arrested 34 bank employees involved in similar cyber frauds, Dewan said. 'It is seen that professionals like bankers, chartered accountants and other financial services experts are both aiding and abetting such offences by facilitating the creation and use of mule accounts. These accounts are being opened in large volumes and have fake directors and proprietors listed. They give technical and other (logistical) assistance in routing and re-routing the proceeds of the crime (duped amounts). We are taking the strictest of legal action against all the perpetrators that have come to light so far,' said Dewan. Dewan said the police will communicate with senior executives of both public and private sector banks, as well as correspond with institutions like SEBI, to highlight the misuse of their names. 'It will be an eye-opener for them also,' he said.
