Singer Adonxs tells of journey from ‘couch-surfing in London' to Eurovision star

Rhyl Journal13-05-2025

Slovakian singer Adonxs, 29, who was the frontman of a London-based band called Pace and attended the British and Irish Modern Music Institute (BIMMI) in the capital, will represent Czechia in Basel, Switzerland, as the competition takes place this week.
The self-described queer artist, real name Adam Pavlovcin, is a previous winner of the Czech singing contest SuperStar, and is entering Eurovision with the dramatic song Kiss Kiss Goodbye – written in London.

At a hotel in Basel on Tuesday, he told the PA news agency: 'It was one of the best decisions for me to move to London, although the first year was definitely a big struggle. I was considering so many times moving back.'
He added that for the 'first month, (he did not know) anyone in the city, (while) already studying, (and) looking for a place, couch-surfing… looking for a part-time job, it was a lot'.
Adonxs said that he learned a lot through his professional experience, but also praised 'the creative hub' of London, where he met his band, made up of Greek, Slovakian, British and Monegasques musicians.
He called this time, 'a huge stepping stone for me', and says he is hoping to return to the UK.
'I feel like the UK music market is market of its own, and it's not that open to a lot of foreign, new artists, and especially being in there as a foreigner, might be even more trickier,' Adonxs added.
He also said that he does not think that the Eurovision organiser, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), is 'forbidding the queer flags, or trans flags', with the new rules this year.
'Eurovision is a very queer safe space, and it's full of queer people, so I don't think it's censoring queer people,' Adonxs said.
'I feel like Eurovision would not be here without queer people, and the only thing is that we will see the flags all around the arena, and we (artists) won't be able to have them.
'I wasn't planning on bringing the Slovakian flag, because I'm proudly representing Czechia. I would probably wear a queer flag, but I wasn't having this thought process with myself just yet.
'So now I know I won't be able to do it, but come on, my performance is queer, and people know that, and I'm a queer artist, so I don't think we can get rid of that on stage.'

The delegations are only being allowed to promote their own country's flag during the contest, and not an LGBT+ one. However, fans have no restrictions on what they can bring into the arena, unlike last year when pro-Palestinian flags had restrictions.
Adonxs said he hopes his performance at Thursday's semi-final will be 'liberating, uplifting and powerful', and get audiences to 'be fully connected to what's happening on stage, to be connected with the illusion and fantasy that I'm bringing on stage and live through it with me'.
'The thing that people might not know is sometimes I feel like I might be unreachable, or reserved, and I'm not. I'm just shy, or I'm really introverted,' he added.
'I'm not reserved and I'm reachable. I'm very much reachable.'
The first semi-final is held on Tuesday, while the second semi-final will start on Thursday, and the final at the same time, 8pm BST, on Saturday. The three shows will be broadcast on the BBC in the UK.

James Blunt shares heart-wrenching reason he made Star Wars actress Carrie Fisher his son's godmother

James Blunt asked Carrie Fisher to be his son's godmother in the hope the honor would encourage her to 'look after [herself]' better. The You're Beautiful singer, 51, lived with the late Star Wars star in the early 2000s while recording his debut album Back To Bedlam. And they remained close over the years. So when he and wife Sofia Wellesley welcomed the first of their two boys, he asked Carrie to take on a special role in the youngster's life. And James revealed there was an underlying motivation in asking his friend — who died in December 2016 aged 60 after going into cardiac arrest, with drugs found in her system during post-mortem tests — to be godmother. He recalled to People magazine: 'I told her everything. I told her when I met my wife, we chose engagement rings together. She's godmother to my child. I was with her the day before she died, and it was very, very sad.' He added, 'What was saddest, I suppose, is how I asked her to be godmother to my child, saying, "I'm asking you to do this in the hope that you'll look after yourself a little bit better." And she didn't, really.' James met Carrie when he was dating one of her family friends and during a group lunch in London. He told the Sibling Rivalry actress he was a musician planning to head to Los Angeles, and when he admitted he didn't know where he was going to live, she invited him to stay with her. He reflected: 'It was remarkable. The first three months, I didn't speak to her. I literally didn't. Her mom, Deborah Reynolds, was on the property. I'd see them around, but I would leave in the morning. I'd go off to the studio. I'd come back late, late, late at night, and I just didn't speak to her.' But after three months, the musician went into the kitchen late at night and found Carrie's staff talking about the actress, who was diagnosed with bipolar disorder at the age of 24. He recalled: 'They were saying, "She's having an episode," and that she was going mad. She needed to change her medication and maybe they needed to get help. James shared, 'What was interesting about all of this, while they were talking about her, she was in the room.' James and Carrie began chatting and quickly became friends. 'I just could see she was just skipping between subjects rather quickly, [but] her brain was still working. Suddenly, we just had this kind of moment where I went and sat on the end of her bed, and she spoke to me until five in the morning. 'And the next day, I came in after the studio. I sat on the end of the bed, and we spoke until five in the morning, and we kind of did that for the rest of the time that she was alive. She became my best friend, really, at that stage,' he looked back. While Carrie was godmother to his firstborn son, he made Ed Sheeran godfather to his second child. Blake is days away from kicking off his 20th anniversary Back to Bedlam tour. Between mid June and early July he will travel throughout the US, ending with three shows in Mexico. The star teased an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show on Thursday, writing to his 1.2 million Instagram followers: 'Hello America! Having a little pre-tour catch up with the wonderful @kellyclarkson this morning!'

You can't call yourself a duchess then broadcast that video to the world

Dear God please, MAKE IT STOP. What, it has stopped? I think I'd better watch it again, just to – ewwww! I can confirm the Meghan-in-labour-twerkathon is every bit as awful as they say. Worse, once (or twice) you've had a look it can never be unseen; I feel very cross, highly embarrassed and I genuinely fear it will be seared on our collective retinas forever. Thank the Lord the late Queen never lived to witness it. Actually hang on – can someone check in on Paddington Bear? It's the textbook definition of a marmalade dropper. No much-loved institution should have to watch another much-loved institution brought to its knees by the sight of a heavily pregnant Duchess manqué slut-dropping for the camera. Don't get me wrong, the fact she managed to get up again is a marvel. And Harry's there in the video too, but as per, he's just the spare. Gallumphing about like a manchild has pretty much become his USP in recent years, so no surprises there. But Meghan? Really? Cast your minds back and you may recall the ridiculous, huffy lengths the pair went to in order to keep the details of their son Archie's birth secret back in 2019. When we were finally informed she was in labour, it was a fib – Meghan had already given birth and was already home with her son. Weird doesn't begin to describe it. Fast forward six years and now they've released a throwback film of Lilibet's imminent arrival as Meghan tries to bring on the birth by dancing in the delivery room to Starrkeisha's viral anthem The Baby Momma Dance – with a camera set up specially to record it. The vibe is clearly meant to be hilarious and kooky – but, and I mean this literally, you had to be there. Very funny and sweet when among friends, godparents and what family they haven't managed to alienate. But the rest of us? We have no business seeing that; being made privy to that. It's too personal; when Meghan moves, we can see the outline of the monitor strapped to her belly. No. Just no. Hey, here's a thought; should I upload the film of me, a 42-weeks-pregnant barrage balloon, so desperate to induce labour that I bullied my appalled husband into sex – with a beef Madras as a reward for afters? Oh wait – I didn't record it. Because my life isn't one endless search for social media content. Many couples record a lot of things (no sniggering at the back) for posterity. Fair dos. But given how punctiliously these two – oh alright then, Meghan – curates their social media posts, it's hard to believe they just randomly released it for a good old giggle. The terrible suspicion occurs that they always intended it to go online – and nobody had the opportunity (aka the nerve) to advise them that it would be a grave misstep. Not least because it's wildly off-message for Meghan's wholesome ' trad wife ' brand that has seen her collecting honey and fussing over table arrangements. Yes, they have stepped back from their roles as working royals. But boy are they keen to cling onto their titles – and with that comes a responsibility to (at the very least) not cavort about incongruously like a couple of demented kids' entertainers signally failing to read the room – which is furnished with hospital equipment. Pleas for privacy will echo empty now this excruciating little gem has been viewed, scraped by AI (horrid verb, reminiscent of something parturition-related too icky ever to share) and transformed into countless memes. And that makes me sad. As well as cross. Why? Why oh why did they release it? It's not as if they aren't media savvy; Meghan just dropped (as they say) an arty black and white picture that featured her daughter but artfully kept her face concealed. Yet, somehow it's fine to broadcast a moment so intimate it makes our toes curl with discomfiture? Here's the thing; our senior royals know well there's a deal of difference between letting daylight in on magic – and exposing yourself to laughter and derision. There are good reasons why It's a Royal Knockout was never recommissioned. But here we have the Duchess of Sussex as she (now and then) likes to be known, making something deeply private into something uncomfortably public. Maybe it's just proof – if indeed proof were needed – that the UK and the US are two countries divided not just by a common language but by wildly different sensibilities. The thing about dignity is that it's very difficult to define. But you sure as heck recognise its absence. Whatever she claims in retrospect, Meghan was welcomed into 'The Firm'. She was a breath of fresh air and Harry's grandmother, the late Queen warmed to her (no small feat as she famously preferred horses to people) and pointedly seated the wide-eyed American beside her on grand occasions. What would she have made of this little film? In truth, I think she would have had the wisdom to see it for exactly what it is; like everything else she posts, it is essentially all part of Meghan's career showreel. On the soundtrack, Starrkeisha sings that Baby Mama is 'Tryna make some money buy some Huggies [nappies] from the store'. Granted Meghan may live in Montecito rather than dirt poor Oklahoma but the principle still stands. She is surely auditioning for some new role. I can think of no other explanation for her bizarre decision to blow the gaff on herself and remind us why there's no way back to the House of Windsor. And more saliently that she wasn't such a good fit to begin with.

EXCLUSIVE Molly-Mae Hague confirms Behind It All will return for a second season as she and Tommy Fury rekindle their romance - but he STILL won't appear on camera

Molly-Mae Hague has confirmed Behind It All will return for a second season, and she has already begun filming. The former Love Island star, 26, whose Prime Video show became a viral hit when it launched earlier this year, will continue to let the cameras follow her life from running clothing brand Maebe to parenting two-year-old daughter Bambi. MailOnline can reveal that Molly's on-again boyfriend, boxer Tommy Fury, 26, still won't appear on camera despite the couple officially rekindling their romance. It was previously confirmed that Tommy is unable to show his face on the Prime Video series due to his contractual agreements with the BBC as he films documentary The Good, The Bad, The Fury, set for release later this year. A TV source explained the second series of Behind It All will be less 'relationship focused' as Molly continues to build her 'business empire' and navigate family dilemmas with mother Deborah and sister Zoe. An insider said: 'Molly-Mae was over the moon that Behind It All was so well received and popular among her fanbase, she's more than happy to continue sharing more personal aspects of her life with the cameras. 'This season will be as jam-packed as the last, with Molly testing living arrangements, taking on challenges, and making some life altering decisions, all while managing her business ventures. 'Viewers shouldn't expect to see Tommy on the show because he still won't appear even though him and Molly are very much together now.' Behind It All has been recommissioned for a second season following the success of the debut six-part series, which became the streamer's most watched show on Prime Video by young women aged 18-34. The show followed Molly as she navigated her public breakup from Tommy, who later revealed the reason for their split was because he had been struggling with alcohol addiction. It also tracked the launch of Maebe, Molly's first fashion brand, and her complicated relationship with sister Zoe, who felt protective over the YouTuber getting back with Tommy before they had properly worked through their issues. Elsewhere, Molly looked back at her childhood aspirations as her family said she was always destined for fame and sharing her hopes for the future, the mother spoke of her longing to give Bambi a sibling. The final scene of season one showed the first picture of Molly and Tommy together again as they reunited in Dubai for a family holiday with Bambi. Molly announced Behind It All season two was in production on Instagram on Thursday evening alongside an image of herself smiling during the first day of filming. In the show, Molly looked back at her childhood aspirations as her family said she was always destined for fame and sharing her hopes for the future, the mother spoke of her longing to give Bambi a sibling Molly rose to fame on Love Island in 2019, where she met Tommy, and during the show's 10-year anniversary special this week, producers aired the star's unseen audition tape. In the clip, she said: 'The last guy that I was with told me that I was too much for him to handle, whatever "too much" actually means…' The episode also replayed the emotional moment Molly and Tommy reunited after the Casa Amor loyalty test, which showed the couple fall back into each other's arms. Despite not winning the show, the couple, who were engaged before their split last year, remains of Love Island's most famous pairings.
