Clemson Baseball makes moves in up national polls after another impressive week
Clemson baseball continues to climb the national rankings after another strong week, moving into the Top 5 in three major polls.
The Tigers jumped to No. 4 in the D1Baseball rankings and cracked the Top 5 with Baseball America for the first time this season, landing at No. 5. Perfect Game bumped Erik Bakich's squad up one spot to No. 3.The rise comes after a 4-0 week that included a midweek win over Georgia Southern and a weekend sweep of Cal.
Clemson leaned on timely hitting and shutdown relief work to get it done, especially late in games. On Friday, Dominic Listi delivered a clutch two-run double in the seventh inning, while on Sunday, Luke Gaffney's go-ahead sac fly sealed the sweep. The bullpen was dominant, combining for 6.1 shutout innings across the series.
At 30-5 overall and 9-3 in the ACC, Clemson currently leads the league in winning percentage. Georgia Tech (11-4) owns more ACC wins after also sweeping Stanford, who Clemson will now host for a three-game set this weekend. All three matchups will be on national TV, starting Friday night on ESPNU.
Individually, the Tigers continue to shine across the board. Lucas Mahlstedt leads the ACC in saves (11), and Aidan Knaak ranks top five in both strikeouts (61) and wins (5). Offensively, Listi is among the ACC's best in on-base percentage (.522), walks (35), and hit-by-pitch (15). Jarren Purify and Andrew Ciufo also rank high in HBP, and Purify is top 10 in triples, sac flies, and stolen bases. Josh Paino has worked his way into the league's top 10 in RBIs with 36.
With momentum building and another ACC series ahead, the Tigers are making their case as a true national contender.

Tigers Predicted to Acquire Two-Time All-Star Infielder From Blue Jays

The Detroit Tigers have the best record in Major League Baseball and are set to be rewarded with reinforcements at the trade deadline. While the Tigers have been one of the most complete teams in the game, they could still stand an upgrade at shortstop over Trey Sweeney. MLB insider Jeff Passan sees Detroit as a potential landing spot for two-time All-Star Bo Bichette. TORONTO, ON - JUNE 1: Bo Bichette #11 of Toronto Blue Jays swings against the Athletics during the eighth inning in their MLB game at the Rogers Centre on June 1, 2025 in Toronto, Ontario,... TORONTO, ON - JUNE 1: Bo Bichette #11 of Toronto Blue Jays swings against the Athletics during the eighth inning in their MLB game at the Rogers Centre on June 1, 2025 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. More"While conventional wisdom suggests the Tigers could use another high-octane bullpen arm to secure outs at the end of the game, renting Bichette's services before he hits free agency would infuse the lineup with the sort of bat Trey Sweeney simply doesn't yet wield," wrote Passan. So far this season, Bichette is hitting .276 for the Toronto Blue Jays with seven home runs and 32 RBI. He's posted a .749 OPS and a 109 OPS+, an indication he is performing slightly above average this season. As Passan pointed out, Bichette is set to be a free agent at the end of the season. The Blue Jays have reportedly not discussed any sort of contract extension with him, so this may be their chance to get something for him rather than watch him walk away. The Tigers offense has been strong this year, currently fourth in the league in runs and seventh in the league in hits. Adding a player like Bichette would certainly make the lineup better. "Bichette's gap-to-gap power would play well at Comerica Park and lengthen a lineup that has scored more runs than anticipated," wrote Passan. "After a homerless April, Bichette whacked seven home runs in May and slugged better than .500. The Tigers don't need much. With their prospect depth, though, they can afford a luxury item." If Detroit lands Bichette, the Tigers could then look to extend him at just 27 years old. He has a lot of years left, and this could be the chance for Detroit to lock down its shortstop of the future. More MLB: Cubs Linked to Marlins Ace Sandy Alcantara as Trade Deadline Nears
