Tralee Golf Club to host 2026 Arnold Palmer Cup
Tralee was the first European course designed by Arnold Palmer. The seven-time Major winner famously remarked, 'I may have designed the first nine, but surely God designed the back nine." A statue of Palmer by sculptor Zenos Frudakis stands near the first tee.
'We are absolutely delighted and deeply honoured to host the 2026 Arnold Palmer Cup at Tralee Golf Club,' said club chairperson Brian Mehigan.
'This prestigious event is a perfect match for our world-renowned links, and we look forward to welcoming the world's best collegiate players to our spectacular course on the Atlantic.'
General Manager Maurice O'Meara added, 'It's a privilege for our club to play a part in continuing Arnold Palmer's incredible legacy. We eagerly anticipate showing players, coaches, and fans from around the world the warmth of our welcome and the unforgettable challenge of links golf at Tralee.'
The Palmer Cup has been played at some of the world's greatest courses, including the Old Course at St. Andrews, Royal County Down, Royal Portrush, Baltusrol, the Honors Course, Cherry Hills, and Lahinch. Since the 2018 tournament at the Evian Resort Golf Club, the competition has featured men and women playing side-by-side as partners.
Over 245 former Arnold Palmer Cup players have gone on to earn cards on the PGA, DP World, or LPGA Tours, since its inception in 1997 while 46 have represented a European, international team or American team in the Ryder Cup, Presidents Cup, or Solheim Cup .

Marc Cucurella, who came in from Brighton three years ago in a deal worth up to £62m, is the biggest success of Chelsea's hit-and-miss defensive recruitment. The signing of Hato is a major coup for the Blues, with Liverpool and Arsenal among the other major clubs who wanted the talented and versatile teenager. The young Dutchman is the 12th defender brought in since the consortium led by Clearlake Capital and Todd Boehly took over the club in May 2022. The back four which started the Club World Cup final was left back Cucurella, homegrown centre backs Levi Colwill and Trevoh Chalobah, and right back Malo Gusto. Gusto has done a decent, sometimes very good, job at right back. Chalobah did well after returning from half a season on loan at Crystal Palace, but could yet find himself being sold this summer. As a product of the Chelsea Academy, he would generate pure profit for financial rules purposes and there could be clubs willing to pay £40m for him. If Chalobah left, his replacement as right-sided centre back at the start of the season would almost certainly be Tosin Adarabioyo. The free transfer from Fulham last summer has carved a niche for himself off the pitch as well as on it. At just 27 he is one of the senior members of the squad, and plays an 'Uncle Tosin' role to the youngsters, enjoying a particularly close relationship with fellow Mancunian Cole Palmer. But no-one, not even Tosin himself, would claim that he is one of Europe's best defenders. If Wesley Fofana is able to put his injury hell behind him and rediscover his previous form, he could yet meet those standards and become a Chelsea stalwart for years to come. Fofana, still just 24, has made only 34 appearances for the Blues since arriving from Leicester in the summer of 2022 in a deal worth up to £75m. He is the most expensive of all Chelsea's defensive signings and that means, through no fault of his own, he has also been the biggest let down. But only just. 8 The Blues really have had trouble finding a settled and satisfactory centre back pairing. Within weeks of the 2022 takeover, Kalidou Koulibaly became the new regime's first defensive signing. The Napoli star's £35m fee felt a little steep for a player about to turn 31, but the Senegal international was highly-rated and on the radar of other big clubs. Koulibaly failed to live up to his billing, although he could point to the chaos of playing under three different managers and a hamstring injury as decent explanations. He was offloaded after just one season to Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal - and played for them in this year's Club World Cup. When Chelsea set a new record for winter window spending in early 2023, Benoit Badiashile's £35m arrival from Monaco went a little under the radar in the wake of massive deals for Enzo Fernandez and Mykhailo Mudryk. The Frenchman did fine in a struggling team in the remainder of the 22/23 season, but not well enough to seal his spot. Within weeks, the Blues had gone back to Monaco to bring in Axel Disasi for another £38m. The France international was a first choice under Mauricio Pochettino for much of the 2023/4 season. But new boss Maresca did not fancy Disasi, and he was sent on loan to Aston Villa for the second half of last season. The signing of Hato, 19, fits Chelsea's current transfer philosophy of signing the best young players and trying to turn them into superstars. If they fail, they can usually be sold on for a profit, as is likely to be the case with Renato Veiga. The versatile Portuguese was signed only last summer, did well enough to earn a loan to Juventus for the second half of the season and could find himself joining Atletico Madrid for a chunky fee. In addition to Veiga, Chelsea signed two teenage defenders last summer in centre back Aaron Anselmino and left back Caleb Wiley. The latter has now returned to Watford for a second season on loan, while Anselmino may well also leave on a temporary deal after recovering from injury. Mamadou Sarr, 19, is likely to be loaned back to Strasbourg after the Blues paid £12m to their sister club. Hato is also 19 but at a fee of £37m, he will surely need to deliver for Chelsea this season. The Blues will probably ease him in, perhaps initially as cover for left back Cucurella. In the longer term, Hato should end up challenging Colwill for that left-sided centre back slot or forming a partnership with the England international. Dramatic win in Dalymount puts Drogheda United at the heart of battle for Europe
Drogheda United are now right in the mix for a runners-up finish in the Premier Division following this dramatic away win over a shell-shocked Bohemians on Friday night. Table-toppers Shamrock Rovers look poised for yet another title, but the battle for the other European spots could go right down to the wire, and with momentum building in the Drogheda camp few would bet against them achieving qualification through the league. Bohemians went into this game having lost once in their previous eight games and were intent on picking up a win to keep the pressure on their bitter rivals Rovers, but they'd lost their last three meetings against the Drogs and yet again they found Kevin Doherty's men too hot to handle. This was a tactical masterclass from Doherty and his assistant Daire Doyle. Select Dare Kareem and Thomas Oluwa to do the hard graft in attack for an hour and wear down the Bohs defence - and then let loose the lightning quick Warren Davis and Josh Thomas to inflict the damage. Of course, such a plan would only work if the team defended resiliently as a unit and thankfully they did just that - so much so that Luke Dennison only had one difficult save to make over the 90 minutes. Douglas James-Taylor was unable to line out against his old club due to a hamstring injury - a big blow for Bohs - and it was Drogheda who threatened first when Kareem dispossessed the flat-footed Cian Byrne and advanced towards goal before shooting straight at Bohs keeper Kacper Chorazka. Former Drog Dayle Rooney replied with a similarly disappointing long-range effort which Dennison mopped up easily, before Bohs created their best opportunity of the game in the 14th minute. A brilliantly disguised reverse pass by Dawson Devoy caught Conor Keeley unawares and suddenly Ross Tierney was one-on-one with Dennison, but the keeper made himself big and got enough on the shot to deflect it wide of the upright. At the other end, a Conor Kane throw-in wasn't properly cleared and Keeley turned sharply on the edge of the box and hooked a superb effort just over the crossbar. Just past the half-hour Drogheda had another opportunity from Luke Heeney's free kick, but when the ball dropped towards Andrew Quinn his effort was partially blocked and Chorazka saved. Still, it took a great block by skipper Ryan Brennan to keep out another Tierney effort as the clock ticked towards half-time. ADVERTISEMENT Learn more Bohs certainly bossed the second period butthey struggled to break down a stubborn Drogs defence, and a brilliant exchange of passes between Oluwa and Darragh Markey almost led to a chance for Heeney, but when he was challenged he went down too easily for referee Paul Norton who issued a yellow card. A couple of other counter-attacking opportunities for Drogheda came to nothing, notably when Tierney tracked back brilliantly to dispossess Owen Lambe. Great runs from deep by Kane and Quinn were also not rewarded. Yet it took until the 68th minute for Bohs to test Dennison and he saved that effort from Jordan Flores very comfortably. Drogheda did have a scare on 74 minutes when Devoy and Connor Parsons combined and the latter crossed deep towards Tierney whose fierce angled volley crashed into the side netting, with half the spectators in the Jodi Stand believing he'd scored. The decisive moment arrived in the 86th minute when Keeley thundered in to intercept a pass meant for Tierney and burst forward before sending a brilliant slide-rule pass through the heart of the Bohs defence. Thomas was onto the ball in a flash and he acclerated away from Niall Morahan and held off Rob Cornwall before steering a low shot past Chorazka.
