Apple's big AI home push: Upgraded Siri, Pixar-like robot, smart display and more — here's what we know

After years of playing catch-up in the AI race, Apple is mounting a full-scale smart home offensive, and it's all powered by a reimagined, more lifelike version of Siri. According to a new Bloomberg report, Apple is planning a wave of AI-infused hardware and software upgrades, including a six-inch smart display, a futuristic robot companion and even a smart security camera; all aimed at turning your home into Siri's new command center.

Siri is getting a major upgrade. Apple is reportedly overhauling Siri to make the assistant more conversational, expressive and intelligent; something critics have long demanded.
The company is now working with partners like ChatGPT's OpenAI and Claude's Anthropic to bring next-gen AI to its voice assistant. The overall aim is for a more lifelike Siri that can understand nuance, follow context and interact more naturally, perhaps finally catching up to competitors like ChatGPT and Gemini.
The first piece of Apple's smart home revamp could arrive as soon as next year: a six-inch smart display designed to act as a central hub. Think of it as Apple's answer to the Echo Show or Google Nest Hub, but with tight integration into Apple Intelligence, Siri and HomeKit.
Mounted on the wall or placed on a table, it will serve as your home's mission control for voice commands, visuals and smart device management.
If a smart display isn't enough, Apple is also developing a tabletop robot, and it's aiming for Pixar-level charm. Described as a motorized, lamp-like device that can swivel, track your movements and even dance, the robot would be powered by Apple Intelligence and the upgraded Siri. It's still a few years away (2027 is the target), but this could become Apple's most ambitious hardware project since the original iPhone.

Apple is also planning to enter the home security market with a smart camera that's deeply integrated with its ecosystem. Set for a 2026 launch, the camera would reportedly work with Siri for voice control and utilize AI for smart notifications, facial recognition, and more, all while maintaining Apple's privacy-first approach at its core.
As iPhone sales flatten and AI heats up, Apple is making a bold play to lock users into a smarter, more connected ecosystem. These new devices would move Siri from a phone-based assistant to the core of your household, with a personality to match.
Still, Apple is entering a market where Amazon and Google have a major head start. Whether users embrace a dancing Siri lamp or trust Apple to monitor their homes will depend on how well these products actually work, and how natural Siri really feels after the upgrade.
Apple is finally entering the AI game by rebooting its entire smart home strategy. If the company can deliver on its lifelike AI promises, this could be the beginning of a new era of AI-powered living rooms.
But after years of missed opportunities, the pressure is on to get it right.

Since ChatGPT was released nearly three years ago, individuals and companies have experimented with reactive AI, composing AI prompts to create articles, tables, translations, to-do lists, and chatbots to resolve questions. While these tasks offer practical value, especially boosting efficiency, the next leap isn't just technical. Agentic AI systems can enable organizations to deploy autonomous service agents capable of managing entire organizational processes end to end. The value of agentic AI lies in collaboration, not replacement, where humans and machines each play to their strengths. When workflows combine human judgment with machine precision, organizations can streamline tasks, innovate personalization and insights, sharpen decisions, scale, and measure outcomes that inform ongoing process upgrades. Unlike reactive AI, agentic systems function as digital colleagues, taking initiative, pursuing goals, having memory and context, using tools to learn from outcomes, and adapting in real time. This shift unlocks incremental gains and breakthrough innovation in customer and user experience through reimagined workflows for operational excellence. The catch? Redefining how an organization operates to deliver differentiating value requires careful human orchestration. While agentic AI acts autonomously, it depends on human or enterprise oversight to anchor purpose, set guardrails, and ensure alignment. Effectively implementing agentic AI prioritizes the role of human employees in value creation to a higher level, ensuring transparency, ethical standards, and responsible strategic oversight at every level. Enable seamless integration: The Model Context Protocol To realize agentic AI's full potential, organizations need to connect AI agents to multiple tools and data sources without building custom integrations for each one. Enter the Model Context Protocol (MCP)—an open standard that replaces fragmented integrations with a single, universal protocol. Think of MCP as a USB-C port for AI agents. Just as USB-C standardized device connections, MCP standardizes how AI systems access databases, applications, and external services. No more writing separate code for each integration. For businesses, this means autonomous agents can seamlessly access customer databases, CRM systems, knowledge repositories, and execute actions across platforms—all through one standardized protocol. As the ecosystem matures, AI systems maintain context while moving between tools and datasets, creating a sustainable architecture. The result? Dramatically reduced technical complexity and agents with the contextual awareness to deliver transformative customer value. Change management for cross-functional process reengineering Implementing the transformative value of agentic AI requires organizational change management—redesigning organizational processes that efficiently yield quality outcomes. Not just a new tool, impactful agentic AI implementation requires an AI expert as a vital ongoing member of cross-functional mission-based teams focused on a specific process selected for re-engineering. AI experts should not be siloed in the technical function. They should be embedded with the functional process content and outcomes experts, learning from each other as they expand organizational expertise. As the number of reimagined process teams grows, so does the organizational expertise, extending gains achieved and staying ahead of a continuously evolving AI. All of this requires careful orchestration of data, strategy, and organizational readiness focused on the functions to which agentic AI is applied and a work culture that adapts to discover new opportunities. This is transformational enterprise change. It is not an event but a new way of working. The potential, however, is substantial. If your organization is still only implementing prompt engineering, you are lagging. Prioritize process re-engineering targets Another key factor is how to prioritize which re-engineered processes customers and users will value most by seeing how they use the product or service. In the early 1980s, then-NCR Corporation used observational research to identify the most time-consuming challenges their retail cash registers could automate. NCR collaboratively developed the Small Computer System Interface (SCSI) protocol and developed a SCSI computer chip that enabled scanning charges to replace hand entry. Similarly standing in their customers' shoes, Intuit engineers and product managers spur innovation by regularly engaging in ' follow-me-home ' with customers seeing how users apply their product features in their daily lives. This institutionalizes technical experts' insights into customer usage to feed innovative ideas for more transformation. Train for an AI world Companies recognizing employees' AI skill gaps are providing in-house or commercial training for workers. Higher ed institutions and their nonacademic competitors offer a variety of online courses. With AI continuously evolving, the next generation and their teachers also need training. The American Federation of Teachers (AFT), America's second largest teachers' union, is starting a training hub with $23 million in funding from Microsoft, OpenAI, and Anthropic to focus on training teachers to generate lesson plans with AI wisely, safely and ethically. AFT's Share My Lesson is now Beta testing an OpenAI-powered teaching assistant, TRYEdBrAIn, that can adapt lesson plans to change grade levels, translate into different languages and many other options. Beta testing is now underway to understand user experience. The Khan Academy is testing an AI-powered teacher assistant as a student tutor in various school districts. As digital transformation accelerates, leading organizations will see agentic AI not as a tool, but as a catalyst for new paradigms of teamwork, value creation, and enterprise agility.

On this edition of Stock Movers: - Intel (INTC) shares jumped today after Bloomberg News reported that the Trump administration is in talks with Intel Corp. to have the US government potentially take a stake in the beleaguered chipmaker, according to people familiar with the plan, in the latest sign of the White House's willingness to blur the lines between state and industry. The deal would help shore up Intel's planned factory hub in Ohio, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the deliberations are private. The company had once promised to turn that site into the world's largest chipmaking facility, though it's been repeatedly delayed. The size of the potential stake isn't clear. The plans stem from a meeting this week between President Donald Trump and Intel Chief Executive Officer Lip-Bu Tan, the people said. While the details are still being sorted, the idea is for the US government to pay for the stake, one of the people said. Another cautioned that the plans remain fluid. - Applied Materials (AMAT) shares tumbled today as the largest American producer of chipmaking gear, plunged in late trading after giving a disappointing sales and profit forecast, renewing concerns that the US trade dispute with China is weighing on demand. Revenue will be approximately $6.7 billion in the fiscal fourth quarter, the company said in a statement Thursday. Analysts had estimated $7.32 billion on average. Profit will be about $2.11 a share, excluding some items, compared with a projection of $2.38. The company is seeing less demand from customers in China, Chief Executive Officer Gary Dickerson said in an interview. It also faces delays in approval for exporting technology to that country, he said. Moreover, large customers are putting off some purchases in the face of prolonged negotiations around tariffs and other economic issues. - TeraWulf (WULF) shares rose as much as 53%, the most since March 2022, after Google took the equivalent of an around 8% stake in the company as the Bitcoin miner and data center operator signed two 10-year high-performance computing co-location deals with AI cloud platform operator Fluidstack.
