Lorde Was Surprised When ‘Ribs' Returned to the Charts: ‘It's Crazy That It Works on People Still'
Lorde just released her first original solo single in four years last month, but 'What Was That' wasn't the only one of her songs to debut on the Billboard Hot 100 after its release. Her Pure Heroine track 'Ribs,' which has become a fan favorite over the years, debuted at Number 99, nearly 12 years after it came out.
'It's crazy that it works on people still,' Lorde told Rolling Stone, during her interview sessions for the magazine's May cover story. 'It's a mystery to me.'

Even before the song charted for the first time ever, Lorde took notice of her fans' love for 'Ribs' after her Washington Square Park event in April. She had announced an appearance in the park on April 22nd, but due to the immense size of the crowd, fans were ordered to disperse by the NYPD. In lieu of Lorde's appearance, the lingering audience sung and danced to 'Ribs,' among other songs of hers, in the park. She would post videos of the 'Ribs' moments in particular on her Instagram page. (Those fans who waited would be rewarded when Dev Hynes would plug in his phone to someone's speakers to play 'What Was That' and then again when Lorde would finally join them a couple hours later.)
'I'm now seeing that Virgin has this connection to Pure Heroine, and to this young, brave part of myself. I'm seeing that all these albums have connective tissue,' she said. 'Having 'Ribs' bubble up next to songs I've written when I was 28. I can't wait to see what continues to bubble up when more of this album is out. What are the connections going to be?'
Lorde's new album Virgin comes out in June.

Fashion Designer Testifies Diddy Dangled Her Off Balcony, Called Himself 'The Devil'
Back in November 2024, a fashion designer who worked with Sean 'Diddy' in the past sued the mogul, saying he threatened her life and dangled her from a 17th floor balcony in 2016. The woman, named Bryana 'Bana' Bongolan, testified in court Wednesday (June 4) and spoke about her interactions with Combs and what she witnessed in regard to his relationship with Cassie Ventura. While on the witness stand, Bongolan said the balcony incident 'left her with night terrors' and added that there were times where she 'would scream in her sleep,' per NBC. The lasting psychological impact included feelings of paranoia, sometimes leading her to 'peek her head out at her own home just to make sure the area was clear.' She said he held her over the ledge for '10 to 15' seconds and yelled, 'You know what the f**k you did.' The witness also said the father of seven allegedly told her 'something along the lines of, 'I am the devil and I can kill you.'' It's worth noting Ventura included the balcony event in her 2023 lawsuit against Combs without mentioning Bongolan, her friend, by name. The designer claims she witnessed several instances of abuse from Diddy towards Cassie throughout the years. She also testified both she and Ventura were regular drug users during the years they were immersed in Diddy's social circle. She confirmed during cross-examination that she did ketamine, marijuana, ecstasy, cocaine and Vicodin in this time of her life. Per court documents obtained by Rolling Stone last year, Bongolan sued the Bad Boy founder for sexual battery, infliction of emotional distress, and false imprisonment, among other claims. The 17-page lawsuit read, 'Ms. Bongolan refuses to allow this fear to control the rest of her life and brings this action to demand that Mr. Combs takes responsibility for the trauma he intentionally and maliciously inflicted.' Diddy is facing one count of racketeering conspiracy; two counts of sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion; and two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. He was arrested in NYC on Sept. 16, 2024, and held at MDC Brooklyn without bail. His trial is expected to last all of June and into July. A-ha Singer Morten Harket Reveals Parkinson's Disease Diagnosis
A-ha's Morten Harket revealed Wednesday that he has been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, which could impact the 'Take on Me' singer's powerful voice and 'creative future.' Harket, who was quietly battling Parkinson's over the past few years, announced the diagnosis on the Norwegian new wave band's official website via a new interview with A-ha biographer Jan Omdahl. More from Rolling Stone A-ha Detail Evolution of 'Take On Me' in Documentary Clip Tribeca to Premiere Films on Anthony Bourdain, A$AP Rocky, Rick James A-ha Release Remastered 4K Version of Classic 'Take on Me' Video 'I've got no problem accepting the diagnosis. With time, I've taken to heart my 94-year-old father's attitude to the way the organism gradually surrenders: 'I use whatever works,'' Harket said. 'Part of me wanted to reveal it. Like I said, acknowledging the diagnosis wasn't a problem for me; it's my need for peace and quiet to work that has been stopping me. I'm trying the best I can to prevent my entire system from going into decline. It's a difficult balancing act between taking the medication and managing its side effects.' According to Omdahl, beginning in June 2024, Harket underwent a neurosurgical procedure called deep brain stimulation (DBS), where electrodes are implanted deep inside both sides of the brain. The procedure, 'among the most advanced treatments in neurology,' greatly reduced the physical toll of Parkinson's for Harket, combined with treatment from the NeuroClinic Norway that 'led to a dramatic improvement in his symptoms,' Omdahl wrote. However, Harket's skyscraping vocals — as evidenced on the band's hits 'Take on Me' and 'The Sun Always Shines on TV' — remain impacted by the Parkinson's. 'The problems with my voice are one of many grounds for uncertainty about my creative future,' Harket said, adding, 'The voice problem comes especially when I take dopamine supplements. If I don't take dopamine, my voice settles down – but then the general underlying symptoms become more pronounced.' 'I don't feel like singing, and for me that's a sign. I'm broad-minded in terms of what I think works; I don't expect to be able to achieve full technical control,' Harket continued. 'The question is whether I can express myself with my voice. As things stand now, that's out of the question. But I don't know whether I'll be able to manage it at some point in the future.' A-ha last performed live in July 2022 on a world tour in support of their then-new album True North. Despite the diagnosis, Harket stressed to fans, 'Don't worry about me. Find out who you want to be – a process that can be new each and every day. Be good servants of nature, the very basis of our existence, and care for the environment while it is still possible to do so. Spend your energy and effort addressing real problems, and know that I am being taken care of.' Original ‘Hamilton' Cast Will Reunite for 10th Anniversary at 2025 Tony Awards
To mark Hamilton's 10th anniversary, Lin-Manuel Miranda and the production's original cast will reunite at the Tony Awards. More than two dozen cast members — including Leslie Odom, Jr., Phillipa Soo, Daveed Diggs, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Christopher Jackson, Jonathan Groff, and Ariana DeBose — will participate. The Tony Awards will air live on CBS and Paramount+ at 8 p.m. ET on June 8. The producers have not yet revealed which song the cast, which includes 19 other actors, will perform. When it appeared at the 2016 Tonys, the Hamilton cast performed 'History Has Its Eyes on You' and 'Yorktown (The World Turned Upside Down).' The actors closed out that year with 'The Schuyler Sisters.' 'Returning to Hamilton is a deeply meaningful homecoming,' Odom said. 'I'm so grateful for the chance to step back into the room — especially during this anniversary moment and to revisit this brilliant piece that forever changed my life and the lives of so many.' Hamilton opened on Broadway on Aug. 6, 2015, and quickly became a runaway hit. The musical won a Grammy and an Olivier, as well as the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and 11 Tonys. The cast recording became the first Broadway album to be certified diamond by the RIAA. A film of the original cast's production, shot in 2016, is available to stream on Disney+. In 2020, Miranda reflected on the Hamilton phenomenon in an interview with Rolling Stone. When asked what his favorite part of the past decade was, he said, 'Honestly, it's the Hamilton wave that keeps cresting. I thought we'd do well with school groups [and] maybe run one or two years. Everything else has been gravy.' Best of Rolling Stone Every Super Bowl Halftime Show, Ranked From Worst to Best The United States of Weed Gaming Levels Up
