Bishop in dressing gown interrupts church concert - and asks crowd to 'leave my house'
The City Academy Voices choir was coming to the end of their performance at St Andrew's in Holborn on Friday night when the lights were suddenly turned off.
Footage on TikTok shows Jonathan Baker, the bishop of Fulham, standing barefoot at a microphone - as bemused performers and a 300-strong audience look on.
"You are in my house. It's gone past 10pm and this is a terrible racket," he said. "Goodnight. You are in my house - can you leave it now please. Thank you, it's over."
A church employee then asked the crowd to leave quietly and for the musicians to step down from the stage, attracting boos from the audience.
The choir went on to perform one last song, an A cappella version of ABBA's Dancing Queen, before bringing their show to a close.
Benedict Collins, who was attending the concert with his 10-year-old daughter, told Sky News he initially thought the interruption was a staged joke.
"The church willingly rents out the premises for performances, for money," he said. "They can hardly be surprised if they take bookings for concerts and there is music in the hall."
Mr Collins said the talented choir had "worked like mad" on the performance - and criticised the bishop's remarks.
"This work deserves respect, not to be disparaged as a 'terrible racket'," he added.
"The people here had put their heart and soul into it. The bishop cut them off in midstream, preventing soloists who had worked their hardest from singing - and preventing the audience, which included people of all ages, from enjoying it to the end."
A spokesperson for the Diocese of London had told The Guardian: "Bishop Jonathan reached out to the organisers on Saturday to apologise for his late-night appearance at the concert, which he now understands had overrun due to technical difficulties."
But Mr Collins told Sky News that he felt this statement was "mealy mouthed".
He added: "I hope the bishop is well and okay. It's possible he just had a bad day. An unambiguous apology would help, one that recognises why his behaviour wasn't acceptable."

Weighing in at 2.2kg, the battered fillet has become an online sensation with videos of customers tackling the platter racking up almost 12 million views. No one has yet to conquer the £65 "special meal" alone even though many have tried - and it's easy to see why. Included in the feast are four portions of chips, four sides, four drinks and bread and butter and it can probably feed a family of four too. The high-street restaurant has been run by owners Alex and Natalie Bovalyaev for 11 years. The monster cod feast was originally created as a one-off for friends. But after seeing the reaction, they decided to put it on the menu and haven't looked back. Alex, 52, told KentOnline that it's bringing in more customers because people enjoy something "unusual". 'Because it's such a big piece and so chunky, I wasn't sure if it would come out OK - but after it's fried, it comes out very nice," he said. 'People love it on TikTok, I don't think they've seen a fish that size before, so we're getting more orders now. It's good fun and makes people happy.' I visited the seaside town with the UK's best fish and chips The viral videos have helped Archie's gain more than 115,000 followers on the social media platform. Millions more have watched clips of customers posing or attempting to tackle the eye-catching cod. Each fillet weighs between 1.5kg and 2.2kg once it's been battered. A typical cod portion usually comes in at less than 300g. Customers are advised to pre-order the meal and they're even a bread knife to wield to help carve it up. 'We had two fellas in a competition try to eat the whole meal, but they couldn't do it,' said Natalie, 43. She added that while nobody has managed it yet, it's something she'd "like to see". The feast is especially popular for special occasions and most orders come in on a Friday and Saturday. People flock to Archie's from all over with Natalie saying they've had customers from California and Germany. Alex moved to England from Moscow to study English at 17-years-old and learned his trade as a chippy near Herne Bay Clock Tower. The couple now run their family business with the help of their son and daughter. But sourcing the huge fillets is no small feat, especially with rising fish prices and cod being easier to buy up north. Alex says that the UK's cod season falls in December, January and February

'I'm a dog expert and there's one amazing breed that make the best pets'
As there are so many dog breeds to choose from prospective owners are spoilt for choice, and a canine expert has named the one breed he claims has all the qualities to make the perfect family pet Countless households across Britain are home to pet dogs, with a large variety of breeds to choose from. A dog's breed can significantly impact its temperament, how easily it can be trained, its energy requirements and potential health issues. Dog owners will be well aware that certain breeds demand more physical activity than others, making them ideal companions for energetic families. Personality traits also differ between breeds, with some being naturally sociable and outgoing whilst others tend to be more reserved. Future dog owners face a number of considerations when contemplating welcoming a four-legged friend into their household, and one specialist has revealed his ultimate breed recommendation. Will Atherton is a clinical canine behaviourist and the founder of WA Academy and Will Atherton Canine Centre and he has gained a substantial following across Instagram, TikTok and Youtube where he shares his dog knowledge and guidance. In a recent TikTok video, Atherton shared why he thinks labradors are the top dog breed. He said: "Labradors are the best dog breed on the planet, and it's not really a discussion that I'm open to having a debate on because in my opinion, it's simply facts." The canine expert then explained the reasoning behind his strong opinion. He said that labradors were "bred to be amazing with people, hyper intelligent, amazing with other dogs" and taught to be "calm, relaxed and stable and to not have any form of aggression in them whatsoever." Atherton has sung the praises of labradors, claiming they "have a huge desire to please their owners" and an "incredible food and toy drive" which he says makes them a breeze to train. He enthused: "They really are the complete package to build the perfect family pet." In his TikTok video's caption, the dog behaviour expert, who deals with rescue dogs and those at risk of euthanasia daily, stated that he "hand on heart" believes if everyone picked a labrador as their first dog, there would be "50%+ less dogs in shelters." Atherton has noticed that many canine problems arise from people picking breeds they're "woefully underprepared for." He elaborated: "All dogs need leadership and solid training, but Labradors make leading them and training them easy, and when things go wrong it's very rarely seriously wrong, and are usually the easiest breeds to rectify issues with. So more labs would mean less dogs in shelters. "And when you've proven you're capable of being a high level canine leader then explore the idea of other breeds." The PDSA, the UK's top veterinary charity, echoes Atherton's statements, describing labradors on its website as "devoted, affectionate, loving dogs that will happily get along with everyone." The site also notes that labradors are "obedient, quick to learn and eager to please, so training should be fairly easy." Atherton's TikTok clip has amassed 442,100 views, 29,100 likes and nearly 900 comments so far. One user gushed: "Black girl labs will forever be my all time favourite, I couldn't live without mine." Another added: "I completely agree with the idea that Labradors are a great choice for first-time dog owners. "Their temperament and ease of training make them ideal for building leadership and confidence as a pet owner. Starting with a Labrador can definitely help prevent many of the issues that arise with less suited breeds. "It's refreshing to see someone so dedicated to both rescue dogs and helping owners understand the importance of choosing the right breed for their lifestyle. Keep up the amazing work!"

Ian Youngs & Annabel Rackham Culture reporter Getty Images Huda Kattan's Huda Beauty brand is stocked in a number of major UK chains TikTok has removed a video by businesswoman and beauty influencer Huda Kattan in which she promoted conspiracy theories about Israel. The Iraqi-American entrepreneur, who is founder and CEO of the popular Huda Beauty brand, said in a video posted on Sunday that Israel was responsible for "every world war" including World War One and World War Two, as well as the September 11 and 7 October attacks. The American Jewish Committee said she was "using her massive platform to spread vile antisemitic conspiracy theories". TikTok confirmed it removed the video on Tuesday for violating its community guidelines, but did not give further comment. Kattan and Huda Beauty have not responded to requests for comment. The state of Israel was founded in 1948. World War One ended in 1918, and World War Two, during which millions of Jews were murdered in the Nazi Holocaust, ended in 1945. In the video to her 1.7 million followers, Kattan claimed there was evidence that "Israel has been behind World War One, World War Two", as well as al-Qaeda's 11 September 2001 attacks on the US and the 7 October 2023 attack by Hamas on Israel, during which about 1,200 people were killed and 251 others were taken hostage. "I had a feeling, I was like, were they behind every world war? Yes. Behind September 11th? Absolutely," she said. Kattan repeated a range of other claims including unfounded accusations that Israel protects paedophiles.
